Accupro Services is a third party…

Accupro Services is a third party medical billing company. My trouble began 9/2021 when my doctor chose to use Frantz Guignard, MD as an anesthesiologist for my surgical procedure. I was told by my doctor I would be billed at the in-network rate for Dr. Guignard's anesthesia services. When the insurance had completely paid for the services at the in-network rates, I received a statement for $87, which I promptly paid. I hadn't yet had a chance to go through my account to match up insurance payments on services. I received statement #2 which reflected a balance of $425.29 which prompted me to analyze my account for charges vs. insurance payments. It matched up perfectly, PPO rates and charges. There were some credit adjustments on my account to accommodate the difference in fees, but they didn't match up as mine did. Immediately I called Accupro and left a message for "Cindy" or "Candy" to all me to discuss the matter. I never received a return call. I sent a packet to Accupro with a letter explaining how I arrived at the amount owed ($0), a copy of the EOBs, a copy of how I arrived at the zero balance and demonstrated how their adjustments were made in error, not based on the actual charges paid at the in-network rate. Another month passed and I received statement #3. I again called "Cindy/Candy," left a message and never received a return call. I sent another packet of information as before thinking possibly they didn't receive the first packet. I went to my doctor's office and showed them my calculations and they agreed I was correct that my balance should have been zero. They said they would call Dr. Guignard's office and remind them of the agreement between the doctors that the patients would only be charged the in-network rates. I never again received a statement so I assumed the matter was settled. on 9/6/22 I received a call from a collection agency (Frost-Arnett Company) telling me I had been turned over to their agency for non-payment of my bill. I have NEVER had an account turned over to a collection agency and my credit rating is 816 so I'm clearly not one of those people who don't pay their bills. I explained the issue in great detail and the agent placed my account in the "dispute" category to give me time to argue my case. I called Accupro and discussed the issue with them and their answer was "we sent you three statements and now a year has passed so you were turned over to collections for non-payment of your account." Never once did I receive a note, sticker or warning on the statement that I would be turned over to collections if I didn't pay on the third statement. I had assumed the balance had been adjusted after my doctor's office called Dr. Guignard's office. Accupro decided on their own to destroy my credit because they were too lazy to look at my letters and calculations and return my many, many phone calls. This is NO way to treat people and NO way to run a successful business. I am a dental Practice Administrator and I work with patient accounts all day long. I am familiar with insurance and how to break apart an account to find an answer to a patient's balance, I treat people with respect by calling them, answering any questions they may have regarding their accounts and demonstrating in writing why they have a balance. I would never treat any of our patients like the scum of the earth and casually submit their accounts to a collection agency to destroy their credit rating. Accupro should be ASHAMED of how they conduct business and Dr. Guignard should remove himself from this business with such unscrupulous business practices. BEWARE any doctor using Accupro Services, LTD for their billing services.
