This was my first visit to this salon…

This was my first visit to this salon and I had high hopes after reading so many positive reviews.

I originally booked a wash, cut and blow-dry. During my consultation I explained that I hadn’t properly looked after my 4A hair for years and usually kept it in a bun. I wanted expert advice on making it healthier and more manageable, not to permanently straighten it. I was advised to have a Texture Release and was told it would reduce frizz, make my hair easier to manage and last around four months.

I was initially shown a bill of around £221, which I accepted. However, after the treatment had already started, I was told I’d been given another customer’s receipt by mistake and that my actual bill was £371. I was very emotional that day and didn’t feel able to challenge such a significant increase once the treatment was already underway.

I also made it very clear that I have an extremely sensitive scalp and cannot tolerate relaxers because they burn within minutes. I was reassured this was very unlikely to happen. Unfortunately, my scalp burned badly during the treatment. The only reason I managed to get through it was because I had brought a handheld fan with me, which I held against my scalp for relief. I seriously considered asking for the treatment to be washed out but didn’t know what would happen if it was stopped early. I have since been left with numerous painful scabs across my scalp.

As a Muslim woman, I also explained before my appointment that privacy was important to me. The salon kindly provided me with a cover when I arrived, which I appreciated. However, I wasn’t informed that a male member of staff worked there or would arrive during my appointment. When he did, he was walking around the salon and washing another client’s hair near me while I wasn’t fully covered. Had I known this beforehand, I honestly wouldn’t have booked.

I want to say that the ladies who looked after me were genuinely kind, caring and supportive throughout my appointment, and my haircut was lovely. They removed around four inches of damaged hair and it looked beautiful when I left. I also purchased the recommended aftercare products, bringing my total to £482.10 - by far the most I’ve ever spent on my hair.

Sadly, after only a little moisture touched my hair, much of the frizz had already returned and it feels very similar to my natural texture. I simply don’t feel the Texture Release delivered the results or value I was led to expect. While I appreciate the kindness of the staff, I left disappointed with the treatment, the unexpected price increase, the reaction to my scalp and the lack of communication regarding my privacy requirements. I genuinely feel like I have wasted almost £500 for a treatment that is not going to last 4 months as recommended. I request a full or at the very least a partial refund

I was told the price for my sons hair…

I was told the price for my sons hair would be around £140 on the Fone when we came into the salon I was told that it would be £280 as my sons hair it thick, this is extremely high and I was very disappointed as the shop is called Afro therapy which means that black people with Afro hair will be coming in the shop.

Shocking

Shocking! I feel compelled to share my experience.
This was, unfortunately, the worst experience I have ever had at a hair salon.
I specifically booked an appointment with Harriet, but aside from washing my hair, she left the salon and my appointment was handed over to two other members of staff. At no point was it explained to me that the service I had booked would not be completed by the stylist I had chosen until she was heading out the door.
I booked a silk press, but the end result felt no different from a standard blow-dry that I could achieve myself at home. To make matters worse, because two different people were working on my hair simultaneously, one side of my hair appeared noticeably smoother and straighter than the other. The overall finish was uneven and far below my expectations.
I expressed my disappointment after the service, but before the trim was completed, but my concerns were quickly dismissed. I was extremely upset. I had travelled four hours specifically to see the stylist I booked with, only to leave feeling completely let down.
For context, I have naturally healthy hair and have had silk presses done professionally on several occasions elsewhere. My previous experiences have always left my hair silky, smooth, and bouncy. The reason I chose Afrotherapy was because I had visited the salon around eight months ago for a treatment and trim with another stylist, who I was later informed is currently on maternity leave, I came back to the salon because I was happy with her service. That previous experience gave me confidence to return.
Following the trim, Joseph insisted on applying more heat to my hair despite my concerns. At that point, I asked him to stop, requested a hair band so I could tie my hair up, and simply wanted to leave. It is frustrating to watch a "stylist" try to damage a hair you spent years to grow and care for. To add to my disappointment, when it came time to pay, I was initially charged more than the agreed amount.
Overall, I left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and that the service I received did not reflect the standard I was expecting. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this salon based on my experience.

Soooo disappointed! 😞

I hadn’t been to a salon for years and thought I’d treat myself - how disappointed I was!!! I paid over £200 for Brazilian Keratin treatment and trim but after a week the roots were still rough. 1 month later, roots very rough and I can’t wear my hair out. 8 weeks later, hair edges significant thin & sparse and hair looks like it is breaking. 😡 When I went back to the salon I was told ‘maybe it doesn’t agree with you’ and was offered a condition/treatment for over £80! which I politely declined. Shocking…

Unethical and verging on fraudulent!

Due to the significant level of deception and unethical practise I cannot give this salon any higher than 1 as their charging system is completely unacceptable - I’m going to dispute the payment my bank in the morning (to get a full/partial refund) as they took a £50 deposit over the phone to secure payment of £110 for a curly perm, only to increase the price to £145 when my 16 year old daughter was in the salon, had her hair done, and was at the payment counter! Really disappointing as quoted £110 for a curly perm, and then was charged £145, which is not even an amount included on their price list ….this is for a 16 year old girl with shoulder length hair!!!! …….they also charged her £25 for a trim, which is completely unethical, and this was without mentioning the cost - I’ve never paid more than £20 for this level of cut. Which did not even include shaping!! To make matters worse they encouraged my 16 year daughter to purchase £52 worth of hair products for products that were not necessary! I consider their overall practise to be VERY deceptive and unfair as they completely took advantage of my daughter, who I’d left in the salon to get her hair done. Do not go unless you want to be ripped off as they’re hairdressing skills are average and certainly not worth their prices! Very, very disappointing and worrying!!! Following my bad experience I did some investigations and found other reviews where customers had been deceived and charged extra costs, so in addition to my bank I’m also going to contact other agencies to raise concerns!

Expensive pricing to wash afro hair!

Had a shampoo wash and treatment which came to £70! Astronomical pricing! Standard itcy scalp treatment (not keratin, not protein). My hair didn't get a press or style just blow dry. Walked out the salon feeling robbed & not afro hair-happy!

Terrible customer service

I ordered one bottle of shampoo from this company online, it doesn't get any simpler than that. I ordered a 500ml bottle and received the 240ml version. Four phonecalls and one email later this has not been resolved. I was promised call backs, which I never received. My email was ignored. They told me on the phone that they no longer sell the 500ml version of this shampoo- it was still on their website to order mind you! They said they would send me another 240ml bottle for free and that they would email me to confirm this, but two weeks have gone by and still nothing. No email, no shampoo. No apology from them either. Awful experience and awful customer service. It was a simple mistake that could very easily be rectified. Wont be using them again.

Very BAD customer service, don't buy from here- complete waste of time!

I ordered from this website twice and both times my item was sent to the wrong address. I am at uni in London so that is my delivery address but my billing address is in Manchester, they ended up sending both times to my parents house in Manchester. Causing my mum to have to spend unnecessary money re-sending it back to me in London. To happen TWICE is just ridiculous, completely retarded and very bad business. I would have been a regular customer but I will never shop with them again, what is the point when you lose out on money for no reason at all. Rubbish company!
