Prey on the old and vulnerable

Prey on the old and vulnerable

I recently found out that Aidan Sloggett Plumbing Heating Design Limited tried to scam my 82 year old mother out of £2000 Christmas 2022 and she was too ashamed and tearful to tell me.

She phoned them to come and look at a nearly new gas fire that would not ignite with the remote control.

A gentleman knocked on the door, walked into the living room and immediately said the whole thing needs to come out and it’s going to cost £2000.

My mother stated the gas fire was not that old and did not agree to the scam.

We have since found out that all that needed doing was a reset of the remote control receiver and a new battery.

According to their site Aidan Sloggett Plumbng Heating Design Limited are active partners with the Fireplace Superstore in Poulton Le Fylde so obviously there is a clear conflict of interest. Why bother checking for a dead battery when you can make thousands more by replacing everything without looking.

So to add insult to injury a few months later with no previous correspondence or warning my mother received a letter addresses to the occupier threatening legal action for non payment of an emergency call out fee. This was not an emergency call out nor was any fault finding done. I see this as a last ditch attempt to confuse my mother into a panic and pay £2000 for something that the cost of a battery would fix.

The man was obviously a sales rep sent posing as a gas engineer to try and fraud a poor old women out of her life savings and charge her for the privilege of being scammed. It’s a win win win situation for this company. New gas fire sold. Payment for fitting. The worst that can happen is £100 for 2 minutes of sales work.

Complete scammers in every way and to be avoided at all costs. This is my Christmas 2024 present back.

Completely ruined a poor women’s hope of staying independent and trying to fix things herself.
