The best of British is still alive and well

My Tethera boots have been the most comfortable and best fitting I have ever owned. After 10 plus years daily use, the soles were very worn, some side stitching had become undone and our then puppy had ripped into the padded ankle surround. They were in such a sorry state I half expected Altberg to find them unrepairable when I took them in to their factory for resoling. Imagine my surprise to receive back what looked to me like a new pair of boots, a subtly placed patch of leather having removed all signs of the puppy damage. Thank you Altberg for doing such a professional job. It’s good to know that old fashioned craftsmanship still exists.

Without doubt the best work boots I have ever owned. Just started using my second pair and have nothing but praise for them. Must also add that the customer service is excellent. So nice to be able to leave a glowing review these days

Altbergs Boots

I have now had a pair of Altbergs for more than a year, so feel qualified to leave a review.

Brilliant boots! But they are rigid, so suit the winter Dartmoor terrain well, but I wouldn't take them to the Via Ferata in the Dolomites, for example. They are totally waterproof, but have a stiff sole, so suit wet and boggy conditions, but aren't so good on wet rocky surfaces, such as tor-topped hills where they don't always gain a reliable purchase on granite.

Bought Altberg Malham boots 2 days ago. I am breaking them in inside as recommended by The Outdoor Depot in Church Stretton who fitted them. They are fabulous so far. They feel top quality, as though they are going to give great service.

A pair of boots one can swear by!

I have been a fan of Altberg Military/ Police boots for ages. I have tried other leading brands like Lowa, them being no match to Altberg! The materials and craftsmanship on these boots is simply superlative! They are built to last for years, if taken care of by proper cleaning and treating (I would recommend their proprietary wax for this). I had a pair which was mistreated for years, due to my complete negligence, but it still performs. The old Peacekeeper has been going on for years, with hardly blemish on the soles! I would highly recommend using supportive insole!

The sole is very grippy and won’t let you down on snow, sleet or wet surfaces. I have found it better than the vibram I have tried.

They are very comfortable and can be worn straight out of the box without any need of breaking in.

Simply put they are built like a rock, meaning to last and perform!

I have recently treated myself and a family member to two new ones; a peace keeper aqua and blue line aqua.

Altberg Norway boots

Altberg Norway boots are the best made quality boots I ever worn.
I have Altberg Defender and they’re excellent as well.
However the Norway boot is the best on the market in my opinion.
I also fitted the footwell from Altberg the Svartz there now more comfortable than my walking trainers.
Excellent customer service when I visited factory shop. Could not Recommend any higher.
I won’t go any where else for my boots.

Malham walking boot - ill fitting

I bought the Malham walking boot based on its reputation and what I thought was 'British made" in Yorkshire, but I now realise they were made in Italy. I'm afraid to say it is the worst fitting boot I have ever had. It is comfortable enough on a carpet at home but as soon as you get onto uneven ground there is not enough support around the heal without having to have the laces so tight they almost cut off your circulation. Both the retailer I bought them from and Altberg showed no interest as they had been used. Don't believe all the hype and test, test and test before you go anywhere near outside!

I have 3 different pairs of Altberg…

I have 3 different pairs of Altberg boots, and have been very impressed with the quality and durability of all three pairs. One pair has done over 3000 miles and are still serviceable and waterproof. The quality of the leather is exceptional and the fact that Altberg offer a resole service means I expect these boots to continue to provide many more years service.

Altberg Boot Experience

I've used the defender boots for a while and they survived through a year of really arderous conditions on all types of terrain. If the boot you want is in stock then I'd say it's worth your time buying them.

A lot of the complaints tend to be around boots not being in-stock which I believe is justifiable considering they supply a lot of organisations with various other boots already. While my none-in-stock boots took many months to process it was within the given month range that was displayed on the website and I was content with the wait since my defenders were still in near-perfect condition.

Customer service was rapid for me, a simple call and I received a connection with an employee within the first minute to resolve payment issues.

Altberg clearly states that they use parcelforce standard delivery which takes about a week to arrive, one aspect I'd like to note is that, once they do ship out your delivery, the timeframe as to when it will arrive is out of their control.

If you're not bothered about the wait times then the boots are worth it in the end.

This was my experience for the microlite miltiary boot.

However Altberg could improve shipment by making the postage a tracked parcel as I had to check every day in the local post room to see if it arrived. I personally wouldn't mind paying an extra few pounds just to have it tracked especially for the prices that these boots cost.

Soles are way too stiff.

Went to the factory shop and got some Tethera boots as they're considered to be their best general purpose hiking boots. The guy in the shop was really good, helpful, measured my feet so I got the correct size and I left happy. The boots have been a good fit since day one.

However the boots have been a slight let-down. They seem waterproof and robust, and if things stay as they are then they'll hopefully last a very long time and I'll get my money's worth.

But the one BIG problem I'm finding is that the soles are absolutely rock solid. I've been hiking in all sorts of boots for almost 20 years and these are a whole other level, they're more like work boots. I feel very unstable on my feet and have gone over on at least one ankle EVERY time I go out, because the soles have absolutely no give on uneven terrain. I go out multiple times per week so that is a LOT of ankle rolling since I got them. In almost 20 years I have never felt so unstable on my feet as when wearing these boots on a hike.

The cynic in me might suggest that they made the soles deliberately tough so that less customers would come back to have them re-soled (which they used to offer for free). Either way, the soles are dangerously solid.

On that basis I would not recommend the Tetheras at all. The boots are well made and feel like they'll last, so maybe other Altberg designs are better, but the Tetheras with their rock hard soles get a big nope from me.

Update: Downrating it to 2 stars now because one of the laces has just snapped from rubbing against one of the eyelets. It's a simple thing but for a £250 pair of boots you'd expect better than this after only a month of use.

Bought the Falcon Flying boots a couple of years ago. They really are fantastic flying boots. Would have been 5 stars, but the soles appear to be wearing out quickly - even though I just wear them from hangar to plane etc. Enjoy if you do decide to get a pair!

Having previously been issued altberg boots, I needed a new pair of boots but in a wide fitting, so messaged the company & soon got a response from Joe.
Luckily they had a pair in stock so went ahead with the order yesterday.
Boots have just arrived this morning( less than 24hrs)
Customer service was first class as are the boots.
Highly recommend this company & their boots

Brought these boots a few years ago in the lakes always struggled with shoes as wide fit, I love them they are the best boots I've had, as a dog walker I cover a few miles so have worn them down, I sent them off to be resoled which did take a while but was happy with the service. While I was waiting I purchased another pair, some people might think there expensive but they are British made and Good Quality.

Altberg Wensley shoe - so good I bought them twice…

I was looking for a more supportive casual shoe other than trainers, the Alt-berg Wensley shoe was my choice and they are superb. Built along the lines of an approach shoe with Vibram soles they are robust, stylish and incredibly comfortable. Having used Alt-bergs boots since the mid-1990’s (Skywalkers) I was delighted to return to the brand. So good in fact I have bought a second pair in navy blue. If they bring out any other colours I’ll have those too, they are that good.

Good boots, bad service

I visited the shop with my partner in September 24 and we both got measured.
I bought a pair of boots and my partner ordered a pair to be made, with a January 25 delivery date given.
Well here we are in March 25, still waiting.
We started to get some lame excuses and lies like “supply issues, they will be with you by….”.
New dates given come and go but no sign of the boots or customer service update.
If you want boots, don't by them from here!

I was recommended Altberg boots by a fellow walker and they turned out to be just what I needed. Not cheap, but truly comfortable. The extra wide were perfect for my gradually aging feet and the leather that is used is beautiful. I look forward to many years of walking in them.

Leaky Tetheras

Bought the Altberg Tetheras as they’re a one piece leather boot and are supposed to be bombproof. They were fine for the first few walks and then I took them up the Langdales and the boots failed me miserably. It was a wet walk with water running down the path and steps on the way up and bog and wet grass on the top. These boots let the water in and I had cold, wet feet for a good part of the walk. Everyone keeps telling me that Tetheras don’t leak. They also said the titanic would never sink…. Altberg had them back for testing and said that they don’t leak, well they do. I can’t recommend these boots.
