Very efficient when I called the pech central, they came to my aid within 30 mins. The road side manner was fantastic, smart engineer who was very methodical, found the problem. A great service.

My car overheated in the Netherlands…

My car overheated in the Netherlands last week ( I speak no dutch) the engineer diagnosed the fault and then proceeded to tell me the repair would cost 200 euros all in tax labour parts and everything ( replacement of a thermoelastic valve - someone I know in the Netherlands friend runs a garage and confirmed this is about right) The ANWB engineer- said the repair could done but the garage was 20 km away and he did not have time to run me back and I could not wait for the repair at the garage. He then kept me waiting for 20 minutes to see if they could provide some transport back ( he could have driven me back in this time). Then he said I have an idea, and he then rang just one local garage ( out of all the garages in the area - where I was staying has a population of 90,000 and there are lots of garages). The mechanic at the garage appeared to know the ANWB engineer very well he arranged the repair in Dutch between them, they said to me that they would ring me and to confirm how much it would cost and would not go ahead without authorization. (this never happened) The garage did not fix the car the thermostatic valve was not faulty. What was the charge for not fixing the car not the 200 euros expected but 628 euros. The ANWB have refused to take my complaint seriously and feel the garage's charges were justified. The police were called they said what the mechanic had done was wrong and it was out of their jurisdiction I had to take it to court the mechanic at the garage delighted in telling me that would cost 1500 euos. The garage would only take cash or debit cards. I formally complained to the AWNB but they just say that this is all OK so beware of using the ANWB you may get ripped off.

Misled, ignored, extremely desapointed

I used to trust ANWB until i actually needed them last thursday, I called for a jump start around 10:30 am a guy came started my car and told me to drive around for 1 hour after that and all would be fine. Then about 400 meters up the road my car started acting strange and stopped again, i called the service line and waited another hour and someone else came, a nice friendly guy, (who spoke in english at all times, since i am in Holland and dont speak dutch) he told me all i needed was a new battery, offered to sell me one, which i told him wow 149 its expensive, then i explained the problem with the car he insisted i get a new battery because its not made just to start a car but also to give resistance and reassuring me that it had 3 years warranty and as i purchased the new battery he filled up the form alone asked me for my bank card and then told me where to sign. Well i believed him since that is the reason why i pay this membership because i dont understand about cars. Well within the next 15 minutes driving i felt same problem and decided to stop at my neighborhood kwik fit, to find out my car had a much more serious problem, which resulted me in calling anwb again asking if someone could come get the battery back since i would sell my car to a junk yard, the advice i was given was to then get the battery and sell it separately since they dont take it back, i complained and was given a complaints dep email. Well i followed the advice i was given and took out battery and said goodbye to my car, well now the complaints department tells me they can't help because my warranty is over since someone not from ANWB took it out and maybe i can give it to a friend or family!! That is the service they provide, i now have no car, and a 149,00 euros battery with warranty sitting in my storage! Very heartbroken!!
