Awful 'specialist'

today, August 14, 2024, at 2:30 PM, I attended a scheduled appointment with the company’s consultant. The assigned consultant from Arboned did not listen to my situation at all and, without having any medical reports on my physical, moral, or psychological condition, allowed himself to be rude to both me and my partner. This so-called "specialist" demonstrated incompetence and unprofessional behavior towards me and my partner, going so far as to insult us. During the few minutes of the meeting (which lasted about 7 minutes), he exerted psychological and moral pressure on me, not allowing me to speak, expressing disdain, arrogance, and distrust towards my explanations, and ultimately, he rudely forced my partner and me out of the room.

I consider the actions of this so-called "specialist" from the company to be a violation of medical ethics and the basic principles of interpersonal communication with me as a patient. His actions and offensive remarks towards me and my partner are unacceptable. I regard all of the above as a GROSS MISCONDUCT on the part of Mr. X.

Mr. X was completely unprepared for the meeting and did not have full information about what was discussed during the previous consultation. He also did not have a report from my Huisarts. Due to Mr. X's behavior and his lack of information about my condition, this meeting cannot be considered valid, as he was unable to make an adequate assessment in such a short period of time (about 7 minutes).

I complained to another Arboned employee about Mr. X's unethical behavior. I was advised to contact Arboned’s representative to arrange a new appointment and to request a new meeting through the HR department of the company where I work.

Furthermore, I would like to inform you that I am aware of my rights and demand that the pressure on me cease immediately. It is illegal to force me to return to work when I am not ready, as there are medical reports from an experienced doctor supporting this. Similarly, it is illegal to threaten to stop my salary payments during my illness.
I consider all these actions to be psychological pressure on me.

The are just work absence policeman

I had a misfortune to receive an unexpected cancer diagnosis. I am a healthy (otherwise) person in my late 30s working as an engineer for a software company. I never had any chronic illness or injury before, and this came as a shock. I am living completely alone, and I was scared but I had no choice but being strong. When I began treatment with chemotherapy I started feeling very ill, and I told my manager and team mates about my diagnosis and treatment. Unfortunately it was still misunderstood that I am fit for work anyways when I am not receiving the drugs or tests. But this was not true as the effects of the drugs build up in my body in order to kill cancer, and also killing my life force along with it. So I decided to take sick leave instead because it was not possible to manage work while feeling more ill with every chemotherapy round. My employer referred me to Arboned. Shortly after that I have received my first call from Arboned by a person who asked me unethical questions such as "have you had such sick leave in the past" and "did you know about your cancer beforehand" etc. Apart from that, she was only interested in telling me that I need to explain how I will resume work to my employer. It sounded as if she thought I was faking it to avoid work. She was not interested in knowing how the shocking diagnosis and the cancer treatment had affected me then and not thinking what real state I was in. She was typing loudly while on the phone, completely disinterested in our conversation. After this I had 4 more Arboned encounters every 6 weeks, from which 3 were telephone calls and one in-person consultation at their location in Amsterdam. This physical visit was with the medical doctor, who prescribed return to work schedule to start with 30 min/day and add 30 min more each week. There was no actual indication when I was expected to go back to work, I was then in between chemotherapy and radiation schedules. However, after I completed my radiation course, I went back to work next working day. I was worried about my employer not renewing my temporary contract and my manager knew about it. He was expecting me to start with 4-6 hours/day. I had lasting physical and mental side-effects after the 2 horrifying treatment types, and I was making a lot of effort to contribute those hours fearing job loss. This ready add up to the anxiety of the disease itself but I kept pushing. After 6 weeks I received scheduled Arboned call, asking me about the work hours. I have told them I have been working at least 4 hours/day and I am trying my best to contribute more, that I plan to resume full-time work within the next 6 weeks. They were still not satisfied that that answer because I didn’t provide clear steps how I am going to do that. I don’t know what steps were expected exactly. Overall, I do not understand what this service is for. I did not receive any support from them or even the recognition of what I have endured so far. I am still policed by them for my working hours, while I can also communicate directly with my manager every day about that. I feel traumatised not only by the disease but also by Arboned and their attitude towards me, treating me only as a number in a factory. I am really confused why this service exists and what is their purpose.
