Plants arrived in excellent condition
I ordered two salvias they arrived today , they are in excellent condition and I was suprised how quick they were delivered. It was nice that there was some information about the plants that I had bought regarding planting and care. Thank you so much , would definately recommend using this company.
Going downhill
There’s a fault with their website and I couldn’t complete my order
I have asked if they could rectify the problem via webmail in January and February but no reply
What a shame as they used to be a good company and I’ve been using them for years
I recon their website was okay last year but with that problem this year it shows their true value
Great Choice of varieties
Great Choice of varieties, great quality healthy shrubs, speedy delivery, sensibly package, affordable delivery fee.
Spring Perennials & Winter Hellebores
I had placed 2 orders, for March '25 delivery, of several Spring Perennials, Jasmine, Forsythia and Rock Rose. They were delivered well wrapped and were substantially larger plants than the same ones from another nursery, (Burncoose) delivered at the same time.
I placed another order, Sep '25 for Hellebore Plugs. These were well wrapped but still moist, and good sized Plugs.
So well pleased with the ordering and delivery process, and will be using them again as my go-to nursery.
Great selection of conifers
Great selection of conifers, including some hard to find varieties. Had a slight issue with one but this was quickly resolved by the excellent customer service rep. I would definitely buy from them again
Absolutely first class online service
I recently ordered a plant online, had some not very good experiences with online plants but Ashwoids had the particular one I wanted. The plants was ordered on Saturday arrived Monday, never before had that happened, boy was I surprised when I opened the box, the plant was packed extremely well, very very healthy, in full bloom, had not been cut down as many do, and was bigger than I expected. Lesson learned if you buy a plant online go to Ashwoods. I was 100% pleased, thank you so much from a very very happy customer.
Great plants great support
Greetings from Belfast. I bought an alstroemeria Indian summer, the first one was lost to UPS's fault. I phoned Ashwood Nursery for advice and every time the customer service was very kind and understanding. Eventually the first plant was lost but they promptly sent another one in excellent condition and very fast, 24 a part from my last interaction with them. Very pleased and thankful for they help and this plant I couldn't find anywhere else (that would send plants to Northern Ireland)
Poorly trained rude staff, poor customer service, over charging, blaming customer for defective goods sold at the centre
I bought a tray at the gift shop using cash. The tray proved to have a defect on its coating and developed an indelible stain after about 2 months which no amount of cleaning rectified. I took the tray back to the garden centre to see what they would do. I had by then no receipt as who would keep a receipt for a tray? The gift shop staff member kept me waiting for about 5 minutes while she had a long chat with someone else, even though (or possibly because) she could see that I was in a hurry. When she 'served' me, she made no apology for the long wait, and was at once defensive and rude about the tray, refusing me any refund or replacement. I pointed out that the tray is faulty and should be returned to the manufacturer for a replacement under customer protection legislation, which gave me no result. I left the tray however, for the 'assistant' to do this and also wrote to the garden centre manager to say that the experience of 'service' at the counter had been less than good. I received back an email that was polite enough but refused all follow up for me, the customer, saying only that she would 'talk to staff'. I followed up, repeating my rights as a customer under legislation, and received back an email, after some prompting and repetition of sending the email, saying that I had obviously damaged the tray myself by putting it through the dishwasher - this was after I had explained that I put the faulty tray through AFTER the stain had developed, as a final act of desperation before returning it. Now, the garden center are both doubting my word and also blaming me, the innocent customer, for a defective item sold at their shop. This follows another visit where I was overcharged at the garden shop by about £30 for compost, which error I then had to get rectified. There are other garden centres I can go to, and although I have spent a lot of money at Ashwoods and have had some decent plants from them (and some that died almost instantly and were not replaced by them), I would now not go there again as this is several times over that I have been dealt with badly and incompetently. I would not recommend this garden centre unless you are very careful and KEEP EVERY RECEIPT for at least 6 months if you risk buying anything. Check and recheck the amount they charge you at the tills. They are not honest nor honourable in their customer service unfortunately.
Really quick delivery- plants in great…
Really quick delivery- plants in great condition and well packed. Helpful advice over the phone.
Pleasant place to visit
Pleasant place to visit, gardens around garden centre well kept. Tea room quite cramped and noisy, not a relaxing place to be, needs extending. Good selection of plants but quite expensive. Bought a packet of seeds which were a year out of date when I looked at them at home. Too far to take them back.
Healthy plants
Really healthy looking plants, very well packaged & quick delivery - I ordered late Sunday afternoon and they arrived on Tuesday.
I actually visited another nursery after receiving my order & saw one of the plants I’d got in a similar pot size, which was priced similarly, but for a much smaller plant that didn’t look anywhere near as full & healthy.
Really happy with my order so would definitely buy from again
Plants Mail Order
Ordered Tuesday 5.21pm arrived Thursday 10am outstanding service. The Camellia is larger than expected in bud and a magnificent specimen at a very good price. Packaging was the usual standard for this type of business but the added expertise of the packer to stop movement on shipping was excellent. The Cyclamen coum x 3 are also fine specimens.
I did think of visiting but taking into consideration location and petrol cost the carriage paid which would have to cover what I assume is a high cost shipping container was not overpriced.
This company provides an excellent service for the specialist fussy collector via mail order.
I highly recommend unreservedly.
Had a amazing day at the nursery.
Had a amazing day at the nursery even in the November rain. Visited Johns garden and got caught in torrential rain, we were handed a umbrella by a gentleman so we could continue looking at his garden, who we later realised was John. What a kind gesture.
This level of great service was repeated throughout our time there, tea room very helpful and at checknout was even asked if I needed help to take my purchases to my car. Never had such a fabulous level of service ever in any store, it really was that good.
Fabulous garden nursery. Great plants, very good staff, food excellent, beautiful displays and design.
Happy customer
Service is a little slow.
However, when the staff get to you, they can't do enough to help you. Always friendly
And ready to help.
I have my favourite among the staff Wendy is always cheerful
And keeps the customers happy.
My Sunday lunch is excellent. And I would always recommend it.
Extremely satisfactory online purchase
Plant received well packed and in perfect condition. At £8.95 the next day delivery was £5 less than another nursery would have charged to send a similar specimen half the size of this one.
Separate the nursery from the tea rooms
Wanted to review the plants on Trustpilot and was saddened to see some low scores. Almost without exception the scores were about the tea rooms.
The online plant service is however very good. Well packaged and speedy. The plants all in good condition. Certainly my go to for hellebores.
Excellent Online Ordering and Quality Plant
We ordered (online) a Rhododendron 'Sylvester' as a memory of our family cat who recently passed away (her name was Sylvester). This was the first time we had ordered anything from Ashwood Nurseries, so were not sure what to expect. Ordering was simple and so was delivery time. When the plant arrived it was well packaged and when we took the plant out of the box, it exceeded our expectations. The plant is perfect in size and seems very healthy. Now planted in a large plant pot with a memorial plaque in memory of our cat. We highly recommend Ashwood Nurseries and would not hesitate to order from them again.
Very good, speedy, mail order service
I live too far away to visit this nursery, but have just had excellent service with a mail order. My order was dealt with in a very helpful, friendly and efficient way, sent out extremely quickly by overnight courier, and delivered within the couriers two hour expected time slot in very good condition and very well packaged.
Ashwood Nurseries tea room
My husband and I visited Ashwood Nurseries especially to see John's garden.
We paid £7.50 each for a walk around the garden which was beautiful.
We then went around the nursery which was lovely and spent nearly £400.
We decided to have tea and a cream scone in the tea room, which was ruined when we asked for extra milk and were told that would be 40 pence extra!
The tiny pot of milk cannot have held more than 25ml. Extortionate at 40 pence this equates to £16 per litre. Absolutely disgusting, bearing in mind what we had spent
We said we would do without.
We have visited many gardens and nurseries in England and Wales and never ever have been charged for extra milk.
Shame on you Ashwood Nurseries tea rooms.
VINE WEEVIL PLANT ATTACK
It saddens me to write this review, at first wanting to give 5 stars re my recent purchase - for helpful, pleasant contact with them; nice plants at reasonable prices, excellent packaging and shipping via online and telephone purchase.
However, my initial concern over tell-tale insect attack on the leaves of a Yakushimanum rhodo - ie semicircular holes at the edges, was confirmed as dreaded VINE WEEVIL damage when a creamy grub appeared at the soil's surface after spraying and soil drenching with Provado insecticide. Being one of the - if not THE worst garden pests to be blighted with (as you don't usually know the plant is infested with the grubs until it dies(!)), I would expect such a prestigious nursery to maintain careful control over a pest that can cause utter devastation in one's garden, and become a real nightmare over time (as found in the past). I know such control is not easy, but using treated compost for planting and follow-up monitoring is possible...and well worth the consumer paying extra for such insurance and peace of mind IMHO ('competitive pricing' notwithstanding).
Anyone receiving such a plant as mine, and without my hard-learned knowledge, would indeed be courting possible disaster, given the nature of this particular insect pest...unacceptable in my opinion.
UPDATE - 3rd May.
Ashwood have informed me they aren't able to treat compost chemically now, but operate bio control methods. In my own opinion the latter may be effective with one's own container plants in confined areas that are easily monitored continually through the year, but must be extremely difficult to maintain reliably in a large nursery setting...hence my own unfortunate experience.
However, I'm happy to report that they have kindly refunded my purchase in full, for which I'm very grateful and praise them highly...5 stars for this in fact!
