Undervalued my vehicle and forced a total loss that doesn’t follow California rules

I’m extremely disappointed with how Aspire General handled my auto claim. They declared my 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser a total loss even though their own numbers don’t meet the Total Loss Formula used in California.

Here are the actual figures from their documents:

Actual Cash Value (Aspire’s number): $10,233

Repair estimate: $5,598.58

Estimated salvage: about $600

That puts the total at roughly $6,198, which is far below their stated value of the vehicle. Despite this, Aspire still classified it as a total loss.

The damage is limited to front-end bolt-on parts only:

No frame damage

No drivetrain or engine damage

No structural damage

The vehicle is still drivable

I also submitted valid comparable vehicles that matched year/make/model, all located in California, but Aspire rejected every single one because they only accept listings from certain restricted websites. Their valuation system produces numbers far below the real market value for FJ Cruisers in this region.

I’ve had to file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance, which has now opened an active review (CDI File #8686137). That alone says a lot about how poorly this claim was handled.

I’m sharing this so others know what to expect.
In my experience, Aspire General uses:

Restricted valuation sources

Inconsistent comparable vehicle criteria

Low ACV numbers

Decisions that don’t match the math

Delays and vague communication

Consumers deserve fair treatment and transparency, especially during stressful situations. That was not my experience here.
