Service outage for 3+ days

Service outage for 3+ days. The call line has no human agents, just routed to AI callbots with a script. They'll always claim the outage will be back up in a little over 2 hours.

They'll have introductory pricing for two years but then it'll go up. They've been raising the prices on top of that for sometimes unreliable service.

Overcharge is normal for Astound

Astound offered $65 a month for internet and phone if you signed up for automatic payment. I had everything set up right from day one, but customer service says it takes a few months for the auto payment discount to kick in, and they don't reimburse back to the start date, so really they charge $10 more for the first quarter of the year and then go to the advertised rate for the remaining 3 quarters. Need a class action.

Terrible

Terrible. Don't sign up for it. Customer Service is terrible. My service got disconnected for a day because they messed up with 2 different accounts and then I was charged welcome fees after for the reconnection. I tried the chat, calling multiple times but I still haven't received my money back.

Awful service.

Awful customer service.
Internet isn't very reliable and rarely reaches half or more of the advertised speed.
They don't honor gift cards offers.
Issues and complaints can be reported several times without providing a solution.
Bills are not transparent, and charges like made-up infrastructure fees constantly change.
I cancelled the service and they tried to keep charging me for it after the cancellation date. I had to submit a State Customer Protection complaint to have few issues and incorrect charges sort out.

outages, hard to cancel, will not prorate

I used their service for a while and the worst thing that happened was an outage for nearly 48 hours. the only compensation they offered was reversing a late fee which they probably would have done anyway. but the real kicker is when I cancelled I had to wait 25 minutes on the phone with a recording playing every few seconds telling me to use the website (but of course you can't cancel on the website). then after I cancelled they refused to refund me $80 for the last billing period because I cancelled 2 days into it. they would not prorate me either.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ASTOUND INTERNET
Astound customer service is atrocious.
After ten years with Astound/Grande I cancelled service as their prices kept going up without notice. After I cancelled they charged me for 4 days service that they did not provide and when I called they told me there was nothing they could do about it. Worst service ever.

We put astound on vacation mode with…

We put astound on vacation mode with the assurance it would be the same monthly charge when we returned home. Nope. Lied. First month $30.00 more. Called, reassured it would be straightened out in the next billing cycle… if we would pay this month’s higher rate. No for second, third and fourth months. But always the promise. In the third month phone call promised a $66.00 a month total fee for twelve months. Nope, following month was up to $99.00 - called and canceled . Deliberately asked if we had a zero balance. Yup a zero balance. Today got an over due bill for $105.00 - called, got no satisfaction. Just run around. Told they would send it to supervisor of supervisor to review and here is the kicker “ don’t expect a response, we dont do that.” I asked how will I know this has had a serious review or round filed. “Well, if you go in your closed account, some unknown day in the future, if there is a credit, you will know it has been reviewd. But I recommend that you pay it now or we will penalize you.” Just awful system!

Atrocious Experience – Avoid Astound at All Costs

My experience with Astound has been nothing short of atrocious. It began in July when I asked to end my internet contract due to moving. Instead of a smooth disconnection, I was left without internet for several days after being disconnected on the wrong day. I spent hours on the phone, only to be told I would need to pay to be reconnected, even though the error was not mine.
After finally being reconnected, I was incorrectly charged despite being assured I would not be. Later, when it was time for the correct disconnection, Astound again failed to process it on the requested date. I was told I would have to pay for an extra month and once again had to spend hours on the phone proving this was their error, not mine.
On top of this, I returned the equipment with tracked shipping (and proof of delivery), yet was told it could not be found and that I owed $150. Despite opening a formal complaint seven days ago and being promised a call within two days, I have only received further emails demanding payment.
This company has caused me nothing but stress, wasted time, and repeated financial disputes. From what I can see, I am not the only customer they are attempting to con money out of. I would never recommend Astound to anyone.

Tl;dr - Reliable until very much not

Tl;dr - Reliable until very much not.

Astound had been decent - internet is not as smooth as expected, but they had been more reliable than other providers in the area. (This is why I'm giving them the second star.)

They did surprise us with a $15 jump in prices a few months after joining.

Then this morning, we cannot connect to anything. Wifi works, we just cannot actually access the internet.

I work from home in software, so this is a pretty significant issue.

Customer service reps would "troubleshoot" by resetting our modem remotely (after we had told them that we had already tried this, and that previous reps had also tried it).

They lied about when they could send a tech to us - they said it would be in two days, but the appointment was four days out. (Again, this is a critical utility we use for work.)

No rep could do anything. No way to talk about waitlists, no compensation, no discounts. Just utter stonewalling. Even after pointing out that we can literally get a new Earthlink installation in only half a day after they could get a tech out, they had nothing to offer.

Do not sign up with them. It is sad that services in the area leave so little to be desired, but when Astound fails, they fail hard.

I have been with Astound/ wave for many years. They nickle and dime you for everything. The last straw is when they double my price. I opted out and tried T mobile home internet. My speed has exponentially increased. My regret is I should have moved sooner. Don’t trust this company at all. They don’t value their existing customers. Their customer service is horrible. Rudeness is their motto.

Don’t trust them or sign up for their services. They continued to bill me for another month even after I canceled their services! Astound also adds a junk fee to your account that they gradually increase over the year. They call it the “Internet Infrastructure Fee,” but it’s entirely arbitrary and has no connection to government mandates or taxes (as stated on Astound’s own website).

This is just a scummy ISP company.

Bad Break Up

After 3 plus years of regular outages and price increases that seemed almost monthly, I made the jump to finally cancel Astound. I gathered and securely packaged all the equipment. I paid the final bills (because it kept changing there was more than one). I said my final goodbyes and thought this relationship was finally over. But no wait, now they say there was equipment I didn't return (even though I know I did). I tried to make sure everything was done right, but seriously they just won't let go. When will it end? Noone knows.

Absolutely the worst internet provider

Absolutely the worst internet provider! I was promised $30/mo if I enrolled in direct bank deposit. But a month later, I was still charged $35. The online agent told me the direct deposit discount was only for new customers. After threatening to discontinue the service, the agent finally said they could give me the discount. Then a month later, I was again charged $35. Another agent said the $30 rate was misinformation and there was nothing they could do to lower the rate. Then when I came back to discontinue the service later in the day, another agent told me they could get me $27/mo for the same plan. I was very confused and upset because if the promotion existed, why couldn't the previous agent get it for me? Then I decided to go ahead with the uninstallation, because I really didn't want to be charged more again and then be told it was misinformation. I asked the agent to set the uninstallation date as 7/14 when my new internet service would be installed. The agent refused and said my service had to end on 7/13 when the billing cycle ended and they couldn't prorate it. So I would have this gap between services. Go with better providers, folks! Even if they cost a little more! It's really not worth the headache!

$80 for something that isn't my fault

Had to call, twice, to get someone out to look at our failing fiber internet. The tech got it fixed, and it wasn't my fault, and said there would be no charge for the call. I was charged $80 for the tech. When calling, the customer service rep was less than thrilled, clearly didn't want to help me. I asked for the removal of the $80 charge, and she agreed, but it was never removed. Terrible customer service, even worse reliability, if I could rate them negative I would.

Horrible customer service and support…

Horrible customer service and support in dealing with outages. No communication, no updates. Automated voice systems are dead end blockers that prevent you from talking to an actual person. Ongoing delays with internet outages being resolved pushed from 6PM > 9PM > 10PM > 11PM and still no proactive communication of any kind from them. Horrible - no trust left in them, seems insane it takes this long to resolve in this day and age

If you like overpriced, underwhelming service...

I have been a customer with them for over a decade when they were WOW. The service was fine enough when I was paying lower prices. However, the cost jumped up to $85 for 200 mbps. When it went from $75 to $85 last week they told me I was already on some type of promotion and there was nothing else available. When I told them I would be find a new internet company, they didn't offer anything to keep me as a customer. They also didn't tell me that they do not prorate any longer, so I'm on the hook for 3 weeks worth of service I won't be using. Supposedly they made the change last year and somehow failed to communicate that to customers. Seriously, just don't bother with them.

For years I’ve had unreliable service

For years I’ve had unreliable service. I’ve had techs out several times, upgraded modem and router several times, and upgraded my service to the best package. I’ve never (in last 4 years) been able to take meetings from home on zoom or teams without getting dropped. I drive 2 miles away where del service is better and attend work meetings in my truck.

Just recently found stability test websites that show ping testing every few seconds. Latest technician confirmed my service drops consistently. Pings swing from 40 to 400 several times per minute.

So I’ve been paying for garbage service for years, and wasted $700+ buying new modems and routers when it was their equipment all along. If there was any other option I’d switch providers. I wish they would refund me even Partially for overpaying for years. Very disappointed. Avoid this company if you can.

📣 My Experience with Astound Broadband…

My name is Mauricio Rabelo zip code 98277.

📣 My Experience with Astound Broadband Powered by Wave (Oak Harbor, WA)

I started using Astound Broadband in April 2024 based on an advertised plan of 1 Gigabit internet for $60/month. I agreed to the promotion and activated autopay to have $10,00 discount.

⚠️ My first bill was $232.02 due to taxes and installation fees.
• After that, I was charged $73,03 paying $63.03/month, with autopay
• It was all good — until March 2025, when a serious issue began.

⚠️ Problem:1 Account “Restarted” Without My Consent

In March 2025, my internet stopped working. I called Astound, and the agent asked me to wait five minutes — and the internet came back.
Two hours later, I received an email saying:

“Thank you for being a new customer. Your first bill is $143.36.”

I never canceled or restarted my service. I never moved. I simply reported an outage.
When I called to report this error, the next agent admitted the previous representative restarted my service by mistake, triggering new pricing with fees and installation. I made it clear I never asked for this.
The agent said, “I can’t undo it, but I can apply a discount.”

⚠️ Problem 2: Autopay Discount Stopped Working

Next, autopay stopped applying the $10 discount. I had to call again. This time I spoke to a supervisor and she assured that the mistake is brought up to higher departments and would be fixed.

In another call, one of the agents suggested that I buy my own modem/router to save the $30 rental fee. I agreed, and despite being unemployed after leaving the Navy in February 2025, I invested in my own setup.

After switching equipment, my speeds dropped drastically — even audio wouldn’t load. A technician came to my house and said my modem was too old (even though I had been told it was compatible). I followed his advice and purchased a TP-Link Archer AX55, which resolved the speed issue.

I assumed everything was fixed and expected my bill to be around $35/month with the rental fee removed.

⚠️ Problem 3: Unexplained Charges Continue

On May the bill was $35.08, which seemed right. But then in June 2025, my bill jumped to $51.69. I called again. Agent Lisa refused to let me speak to a supervisor and insisted the bill was correct.

She claimed I was on a $99 “Bundled Services” plan and was getting a discount. But I never signed up for a $99 bundle — I only ever wanted the $60/month 1 Gig internet, as advertised and as I always had on the bills since year ago.

❌ Conclusion: Ongoing Billing Errors, No Resolution

Since March, I have called over 16 times, spent hours on the phone, explained the situation to different agents, and still have no resolution. I’ve been mischarged, misinformed, and treated as a “new customer” because of a mistake I never caused.

⚠️ I strongly do not recommend Astound Broadband.

This experience has been exhausting, unfair, and deeply disrespectful. Mistakes happen — but I should not be paying more for a service I never asked to be changed or restarted.

Unless this is resolved properly, I am considering taking Astound to small claims court.
