Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the subscription model, finding it difficult to cancel and often leading to unexpected charges or billing discrepancies. Customers also reported issues with product access, such as purchased books becoming unavailable or requiring repurchase. The customer service was frequently criticized for being unhelpful, difficult to reach, and providing automated responses rather than human assistance. Payment issues, including unexpected charges and difficulties in removing payment information, were also a common complaint. Reviewers also found the website challenging to navigate, particularly when trying to find desired titles or manage their accounts. However, some customers also noted positive experiences with customer service, highlighting quick issue resolution and polite interactions. A few other people also felt that the books themselves were great.

Bugs

I love Audible I have used it for years and but the last update has made it extremely unhelpful. I am listening to a 22 hr book and after you have finished for the day it gets reset to the beginning of the box. I have to carry a not book around with me to keep note of how long I have left. The same thing happens when you use a sleep time it reset the book.

And you can't remove books from wish list once you have bought the book. Amazon fix these bugs and I will up date my review. Audible is a great app then these bugs are gone.

A frustrating 'help'areaIt is impossible to contact someone to…

It is impossible to contact someone to speak to. The help page gives options that are irrelevant to my problem. I have been trying to but 2 titles for 1 credit but continuously are charged 2 credits. Even when the bar to state it is for the 2 for 1, there is no further change in using the offer of 2 for 1. All very frustrating. Why give the offer if it cannot be used?

Tricksters

The Worst! It should be a respectable platform to listen to books, instead they rob people in a plane site by making them press 5 times "unsuscribe" button, which is hidden at the bottom under pile od advertisings. When you think that you unsuscribed - trust me, you didn't. You still need to unsuscribe billion times and last second they replace the same colour button with "subscribe again". Tricksters!

Deceptive promotion

Promised 2 credits turned out to be for prime only. Not clear from promotion. When I tried to contact I encountered the worst 'chat' function I have ever experienced. Round and round on auto options which did not address my problem. Almost impossible to reach an agent.
Then I encountered the usual problem of trying to cancel the subscription on Amazon. Why does Amazon hide the cancel option?

Incompetent systems for resolving…

Incompetent systems for resolving issues. Multiple transfers (4+) each of the two times I attempted to call. Unable to resolve issues - my Audible account was disconnected, claiming there was no link to my Amazon account. My Amazon account is active; Audible simply seems not to have the ability to understand, provide a pathway to resolution or resolve the issue.

Loyal customer but…..

Loyal customer but…..

Giving a minor player author credits for a classic is completely unacceptable. I was recently listening to the bbc version of the fellowship of the ring and was slightly disturbed to see the author credited as Richard O’Callahan rather than JRR Tolkien. While I did enjoy Richard’s performance as Merry I don’t feel he deserves authorship credit. Arguably Brian Sibley deserves credit for his fantastic adaptation, but we all know who the actual author is. Shame on you audible for allowing this.

Loyal customer, unloyal service

I’ve been a loyal Audible customer for many years and have spent a significant amount with them, but sadly, I’ll now be looking for an alternative audiobook provider.

Recently, I went to purchase additional credits on my iPhone. The price showed as £32.99 — more than the usual £28.99 I was used to. I assumed it was just a price increase, possibly due to inflation. However, a colleague using the same app on a different device confirmed they were still seeing the lower price of £28.99.

I contacted Audible customer support to ask about the discrepancy and was told that the higher price was due to third-party charges associated with using an iPhone. I explained that I pay Audible directly for my membership and purchases, not Apple, but was told there was nothing they could do.

It’s incredibly frustrating to be penalized for the platform I use — especially without any prior notice or transparency around the pricing differences. For a service I’ve supported for years, this feels like a poor way to treat loyal customers.

Audible may still be a good platform in terms of content, but this experience has really changed how I view their customer care and pricing practices.

SPAM

SPAM! These people get the award for violating the Cann/Spam Act most blatantly. No unsubscribe link in the email; the pseudo-link takes you to your account home page where "you can set your notification preferences". And so you can. It just doesn't follow what you say. Tell it you want nothing as many times as you like. No effect. So, let's claw back some of that illegal interaction. Those "free for two weeks" offers and such? They don't track them by subdomain. Used up yours at audible.com? Go to audible.co.uk. Then audible.au. Then audible.ca. They'll all offer you the same promotion. You can get a good 8 books free, finish a collection, then cancel. And do it in good faith, knowing you're giving spammy little bastards their come-uppance!

Amazon Audible Deceptive Subscription Practices

Amazon #Amazon sent deceptive advertising offering 3 free credits as a hook to launch a subscription service for $14.95 per month without making it obvious that this would result in recurring charges. What's worse, Amazon opened TWO subscriptions for this service totaling $29.90 on my monthly credit card statement. Shame on Amazon!

A content app where you can't actually access the content!

Terrible, horribly designed app and website! I bought audiobooks with accompanying pdfs and the app does not allow new to find or view pdfs. Neither does the mobile version of the website! Eventually found a solution via a desktop version on one browser, but its ridiculous that i can't access content i paid for in the app! Their customer support and help pages were worse that useless... thank goodness for random redditors!

FRAUDULANT BILLING PRACTICES

I was recently forced to shut my Audible account.

I received a new bank card from my bank, rendering my old card inactive. I received a message from Audible asking me to update my payment information, which I never did. All of a sudden, like a magic trick, Audible had my new payment information and begins charging me yet again.

This seems completely illegal. Can the Audible company explain themselves, here, on this forum?

These people are crooks

These people are crooks. They took unauthorized payments to a membership I don’t have. I have spoken to them 4 times and then contacted my bank about fraudulent transactions from them. When I called them back again right after talking with the bank they tried to say I have already been refunded which is a lie. I blew up on them!! They have been making excuses since the beginning of June! The bank will take over now but it will take another month to resolve.

If I could give negative stars

If I could give negative stars, I would. We never subscribed to Audible, yet our credit card has been charged since January 2024. I’ve tried contacting Amazon, but they referred me to Audible. So far, no one has provided a proper solution. I’m frustrated and confused about having to pay for something we never used.

Audible has deleted my entire library…

Audible has deleted my entire library of more than 10+ years of audiobook purchases (at least 50 books).

How did that happen?
1. I started the process of deleting my Amazon account (not Audible).

2. They gave me an overview of all the data they would delete (NOT including Audible)

3. I didn't have time to go through the list, so I didn't finish the deletion.

4. A week or so later, I received an email from Amazon. They asked me to react and reply to them, confirming that I wanted to delete my data. Again, I didn't react.

5. Instead I wrote Audible support, asking them if they could move my library to another account. They couldn't. I explicitly told them to ensure my account wouldn't be deleted.

6. A week later, after doing no more than that, and still not confirming my deletion, Amazon had deleted my account. Including my huge Audible library.

7. They say it's irrevocably lost, no way to restore it or my library (and my 3 remaining credits).

With my many years of experience from the software industry, I simply don't believe that is true. You should never buy stuff you don't truly own (lesson learned).

Goodbye Amazon, Audible & Prime TV.

Your subscription is about to expire?

I love audible, and have been a member for many years. BUT. I bought their yearly subscription, thinking it would save money, and I always get it anyway. After the first month there has been a super annoying bar right at the top of everything, saying my subscription is about to expire. I have another 11 months! And it is on every page. I decided to try to contact them about it, and there is no way to get through their faulty chat contact and the email has been removed. Please fix this!
