Excellent owner!

The owner of the car was the most helpful person I have ever met, despite a serious and long plane delay. The car was perfect and exactly as described. This is the third time in a year that I have used Auting and I find this company very serious about choosing owners. Furthermore, the application is easy to use. It would only be desirable in the near future the possibility of other payment methods besides credit cards.

Best one month rental car experience ever

The website is not confusing, responses were quick and the contract is simple. The vehicle featured was exactly as pictured and described. The owner was prompt at returning our inquiries and very polite.

My favorite way to rent a car

It’s a great and easy way to reintroduce real car sharing between private people. It’s cheaper plus you get to meet nice people.
Plus it’s very convenient, you don’t need to go to a pick up station, you just find the car through your app and book it. It’s my favorite way to rent a car.

It was really god mainly because the person who I rented from was great, generous and patient.
I didn't like that auting wasn't straight forward about coverage. I always was afraid. People don't us usually read throughout a whole list of terms and agreements. You guys should be very simple and straight forward about the coverage in case of accident

Very positive experience

Very positive experience, I was very worried when I saw the reviews about the other car renting companies so I wanted something else that is more trustworthy. And that's when I found this italian app. The experience was really smooth and easy, and there are no bad surprises or any hidden fees.

Don't forget yo get your international driving permit BEFORE booking a car if you're from Canada.

I highly recommand!

Frustrating Experience and Poor Customer Service

I originally wanted to adjust my 3-week booking by just 1.5 hours. My initial reservation was from 06-06-2024 16:00 to 27-06-2024 16:00, and I wished to change it to start at 06-06-2024 14:30 and end at 27-06-2024 14:30. The car owner agreed to this, and there were no bookings before my start time. However, I couldn't make this change through the website or app, so I contacted customer support for assistance. Despite clearly specifying in my email that I wanted to shift the reservation from 16:00 to 14:30, customer support misinterpreted my request, claiming I wanted to move the reservation later.

After clarifying the misunderstanding, they informed me I had two options to adjust the timing:

1: Cancel the original booking and create a new one from 06-06-2024 14:30 to 27-06-2024 14:30. However, canceling would risk losing the booking if the owner didn’t accept the new request, and I would lose a 10% voucher used in the original booking. When I asked if the voucher could be reapplied, they said it was not possible.

2: Make an additional booking before the original one, which the system would treat as continuous. However, due to a technical limitation of their app/website, I couldn't set the end time to June 6th 16:00, as it was too close to my original booking. Instead, the end time had to be 15:30. Despite this, I was assured that I would also be able to pick up the car if I arrived during the 30-minute gap between the two bookings.

Option 2 was cheaper, since I couldn't reapply my 10% voucher, so I chose this solution, costing an additional 27 euros. However, when I arrived at 15:35, in between the two bookings, I couldn't check in, despite having raised this potential issue beforehand and being assured it would work.

I was stranded for 25 minutes waiting for my next reservation to begin, which was frustrating. Customer support was unhelpful and dismissive when I called. Finally, when it was 16:00, I still couldn't check in through the app. I needed a pin code sent to my email a month earlier, which I couldn't find because it likely went to my spam folder and was deleted. I called customer support again, asking them to resend the pin code. Instead, they required me to send images of my passport, driving license, and a photo of me next to the car via WhatsApp to get the pin code sent to me on WhatsApp. This seemed unnecessary, as resending the pin code to my email would have been simpler. Eventually, I received the pin code and began the check-in process. I had to confirm the mileage reading and cleanliness of the car before it was unlocked, which seemed odd, but I accepted it and finally got the car over an hour after arriving.

Due to this hassle, I requested a refund for the extra booking. Their promise of being able to check in during the 30-minute gap between the two bookings did not work. When responding to my refund request, they claimed I couldn't check in at 15:35 because I had supposedly checked in and out of the first reservation, marking it as finished. They stated: "you made the CHECKIN of the first reservation at 06/06/2024 04:21:51 and the CHECKOUT at 06/06/2024 04:21:54. You should not have done the checkout of the first reservation on June 6th. By making the checkout, you blocked the car till 4 pm."

I interpreted this as saying I checked in and out at 4:21 am on June 6th(in the middle of the night), which was impossible as I wasn't even in Italy at that time. When I pointed this out, they said, "It's 4:21 pm of course... We wrote nowhere 4:21 am," without clarifying the actual time. They implied I couldn't check in at June 6th 15:35 because I checked in and out of a booking in the future at June 6th 16:21. I asked them to explain this timeline, but they stopped replying.

I consider the 27 euros lost, and my energy is better spent warning others about using this platform. While the car was good and the owner was pleasant, my overall experience with Auting was frustrating and unsatisfactory. I do not recommend their services due to their unreliable system and poor customer support. Save yourself the hassle and choose a more dependable car rental service.

Edit 05.07.2024(as I cannot reply):

Despite assurances that I could check in during a 30-minute gap between bookings, this was not possible, leading to inconvenience and a refund request, which Auting didn't address in their reply.

Implying I wasn't verified is misleading; all necessary ID was already provided in my profile before booking. When I called customer support at 16:03 via my registered phone number and was told I couldn't receive a pin code to my registered email(or phone), I promptly sent required ID images at 16:11, so it was not hard to obtain. I received the pin code at 16:28.

The spam filter is on me, but the pin code requirement wasn't mentioned in FAQ, during booking or in the app.

We are sorry for the delayed Checkin but problems with the Checkin and Checkout procedures with the connected cars can always happen, this is why the customer service is available to support the Drivers.
We tried to support you, and eventually we did it, even if it was very difficult for our operator to obtain from you the info we needed for the backup procedure to open the car. Because, of course, we can not open and we will never open a car parked in the streets of Milan, without the mandatory and main data that the Driver has been sent after the reservation payment.
This is a very important safety issue.

About the Pin Code, you have the Pin Code in the email you received after the reservation payment, with this indication:

Please, note the following code,
YOU WILL NEED IT TO ACCESS THE CAR - codicePIN

So you had this info since you used the Pin Code within the confirmation payment email.

If the Driver has very strict filter in their email, unfortunately, it can not be our problem, mostly if this problem is not shared with us before the trip.

Also, it's the Driver who has to give to the customer service the necessary data to identify themselves and the booked car, not the opposite.

We are glad you enjoyed your 15 days trip in Italy with the car you booked on Auting, despite the initial issue.

Super experience with auting

Super experience with auting. The owner was very friendly, helpfull and flexible when we needed to return the car a day earlier than planned. Really recommend to everyone. Auting makes it so easy and much cheaper to rent a car.
