Scam Alert – Fake Car Buyer on Facebook:
Just a warning for anyone selling a car on Facebook Marketplace. I had a guy message me his name was jim something -he said he was a serious buyer, wanted to come buy my car right away, and seemed totally legit at first. After a few messages, he told me he doesn’t believe in the Dutch APK and insisted I do a vehicle check through a specific website before he’d buy it, which was this autodatainspection website
Here’s where the red flags started:
• The website only accepted credit card, which was sketchy.
• He kept pushing me to do it, almost pressuring me into it.
• The report I got back was full of spelling errors and looked totally fake.
Oh also the website asks for the car VIN number which i didn't know what it was he said its fine just put your numberplate in i have done it one time too with just the numberplate.
Honestly, I don’t know what stupidity got into me—I’m usually super careful with scams, but somehow I went ahead with it. Right after that, this “Jim” blocked me, deleted all our messages, and vanished. That’s when I realised I’d been scammed. I called my bank immediately and blocked my credit card.
Lesson learned: If a buyer asks you to use some random site for a car report, it’s 99% a scam. Trust your gut!
Stay safe out there—hope this helps someone avoid the same mistake.
