Site is chocked full of scammers and if you dont want to get scammed by them, you can always count on the autotrader automatic lowballs they constantly send. Zero real offers after 6 months, but i got contacted by about 25-30 scammers. Meanwhile im having real conversations with people on facebook marketplace about the car. Don’t waste your money or time

100% of all inquiries about my KIA Forte was a scam, They all wanted to payt by cashiers check, when I suggested PayPal, or Zelle They quit communications. The scam is Your bank legally must make check funds available within a few days, making you think it cleared. However, weeks later, the bank fully processes the check, discovers it is fake, and reverses the deposit. You lose your car, any money you wired, and you must pay back the bank out of pocket.

I complained twice, and was directed to Autotrader support, and when they replied they emailed me a do and dont email, caring less.

This site is full of scam buyers. I have had over 20 responses from “buyers” wanting me to let their cousin test drive my car and then Venmo me the money. What a joke. Not worth the money to post your car on this website. Don’t bother calling customer service. They are almost as bad the the scammers.

I had an extremely disappointing experience trying to sell my car on AutoTrader. I listed my Buick Regal expecting to hear from legitimate buyers, but instead I was flooded with scammers almost immediately. Nearly every inquiry I received was some variation of the same scam—people wanting me to purchase vehicle history reports from obscure websites, asking for personal information, or sending generic messages that clearly weren’t from real buyers.

Over the entire time my listing was active, I received virtually no serious interest from actual people looking to buy my car. It felt like I paid to advertise my vehicle only to become a target for scammers. I spent more time blocking fake buyers and deleting fraudulent messages than communicating with anyone who genuinely wanted to purchase my car.

I expected AutoTrader to have much better systems in place to detect and filter out obvious scam accounts before they ever reached sellers. Instead, it felt like I was left to deal with the problem myself. Selling a vehicle is already stressful enough without constantly wondering whether every message is another scam attempt.

For the money I spent on my listing, I expected exposure to real buyers—not an inbox full of fake inquiries. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend AutoTrader to private sellers. If you’re considering listing your vehicle, be prepared to waste a significant amount of time sorting through suspicious messages instead of talking to legitimate buyers.

I sincerely hope AutoTrader invests more in protecting its users from scammers because my experience was frustrating from beginning to end. I won’t be using the platform again unless I see major improvements in how they screen inquiries and protect private sellers.

Everything went well.

They are impossible to get ahold of. Will not address billing issue of payment being sent and not applied. Copies of payment sent MULTIPLE times to both billing and "Senior Coordinator Credit and Collection." "Person" who replies seems either like a bot or super incompetent. Phone on account/email doesn't go to said individual. The person who is at that line doesn't answer or return a call. Phoned general support, they can't give out any contact info, only ask billing to reach out...and back on the hamster wheel you go. Still here a month later and still haven't been able to speak to a person other than support who keeps forwarding our pleas for help.

It was easy. It was clear. It was painless.

Listed car and had over 25 fake profiles contact me. Not one single legitimate buyer. Ended up taking off site ended up selling somewhere else. Called to complain but was met with there is nothing we can do.

All I received were scammers, not one serious person contacted me.

It was easy to set up my account and list my vehicle for sale. The sale process was easy, and the customer service representative walked my buyer and me through the closing sales process, which helped a lot. I like the fact that I can use almost any type of device (cell phone, PC, tablet) to access my account, the real-time updates from buyers, and the platform's communication process. I will definitely use Auto Trader again to shop for or sell a vehicle.

Very secure and smooth experience using Autotrader. Just becareful when anyone trying to buy your car asks you to immediately start communicating outside the Autotrader platform.

I used the Private Sellers Exchange in an unsuccessful attempt to sell my Honda. This was an awful experience and the service is nothing but scammers. In the week I tried to sell my vehicle, I had about 25:1 ratio of scammers to serious inquiries. Don’t waste your time with Autotrader.

I liked not having to worry about the funds transfer. The instructions and checklist were very helpful. Having the option to contact customer was also beneficial. I did not like having to deal with scammers and don’t understand how they are able to infiltrate the PSX considering verified ID. I would still recommend with caution on what to look out for dealing with scammers.

The seller was a fantastic person. The Auto Trader people were excellent.

The best customer service I ever seen. My first time going through Autotrader and they walked me through every process.

AutoTrader did a great job. Amazing how many hits I got from people. I also liked the no paperwork and dealing with the $$$$$.
