Auto trader has multiple safety measures to make sure you’re not getting ripped off. Plenty of information and assistance is provided. Friendly staff, fees are a bit high but I enjoyed the service and the temporary plates provided. The final confirm transaction button to send seller funds is nice

Autotrader’s private seller exchange was very easy to do and certainly recommend this service due to several things - peace of mind regarding payment integrity, ease of using the service , super easy to speak with their team to get questions answered among other things. Very economical service for the service you get - great job Autotrader !

You guys were great! The seller so so! He said that maintenance records would come with the car and I received none with the car! Can you rectify??

Although i had initially a problem getting signed in, loved the setup of site: to chat, make an offer, etc.
If I did have a problems. called the number on site. Personnel patient and knowledgeable. Made connections with seller easy.

What i liked most about my experience with Autotrader was the post sales. From the moment either party accept an offer on car sales, the process is detailled really clearly. It's easy to go through if you follow it.

Pre-Sales though, i expected that because i paid to have my car on Autotrader, it removed all the spammers. I got about 16 people interested, out of which only 1 was legit. That 1 person saw the car for sale on our driveway and when he contacted me, i shared the ad with him.

If they could eliminate the spams, let the seller whom they regional PSX team is, it will make is easier to communicate and ask questions.

Otherwise a good experience

Autotrader made it really easy to purchase a car from a private seller. They took care of everything including paying off the seller’s lien, title, temp license plate, and everything needed to register the vehicle. Highly recommend this service.

The Autotrader Private Seller Exchange is a complete waste of time and money. Created an account, paid to post a vehicle and created the ad. Nothing but bot meesages with poorly worded attempts to solicit calls. Half of them weren't even gramatically writen.
To make it worse Autotrader made an offer to purchase the vehicle at less than a 1/4 of the value. Save yourself the aggrevation, time and money.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience listing my vehicle on AutoTrader. The platform generated nothing but scam and phishing inquiries instead of legitimate buyers. Most messages were obvious attempts to get me to email outside the platform, click suspicious links, or engage with fake escrow/payment schemes.

I paid for the advertisement expecting qualified exposure to real car shoppers, but instead it became a frustrating waste of both time and money. The amount of scam activity made the platform feel poorly monitored and unsafe for private sellers.

I understand scams exist everywhere online, but I expected far better filtering, verification, and seller protection from a paid automotive marketplace. Unfortunately, I would not recommend AutoTrader to private sellers based on this experience.

Great seller. Real people actually answered the phone and email when I called, they were knowledgeable and respectful.

I had nothing but scam offers. too many to count. Website is basically useless and a waste of time for a private seller.

The process was easy and helped the buyer to go through the process and submit the payment.
Helped me (the seller) to be able to submit my documents to Auto Trader and online. Auto Trader charged $99 for the sale. I felt that was a little high.

Overall, I had a pretty good experience as a buyer. The Private Seller Exchange program works fairly well, but it wasn't clear to either the seller or buyer as to what the costs were to each of us until you were well into it. As a seller, there is a listing fee ($177 in this case) that is NOT part of the PSE program. That wasn't clear to the seller. As a buyer, the cost and services weren't layed out so it was intuitively obvious. The bottom line was that the buyer pays for the PSE program ($199), and for that, Autotrader handled the transfer of money, transfer of title, etc. That made things a lot easier and safer for both parties. As a buyer, in order to drive home, I needed temporary tags which were supplied, a bill of sale (I only had an invoice, nothing that said bill of sale), and insurance (which I had). I printed the temp tag, even got it laminated.....only to find that the printout had the screw hole markers in the wrong place! I couldn't believe it. Before my long drive, I did get that resolved, but this should never have happened. Now I am on hold until Autotrader processes the title and sends it to me. I can then get my VIN verification done in my state, then head to the DMV. Overall....good process that's very close to being a great process.

I enjoyed the hassle free experience of buying my car from a private owner with Autotrader. My transaction was smooth and pleasant. With auto trader they make sure the seller and buyer are verified so you feel comfortable with your purchase.

From a seller’s pov I had a great experience listing and selling my vehicle on AutoTrader. Utilizing Autotrader’s intuitive seller’s tools I was able to list my vehicle quickly and then received a fair offer within a couple weeks. Post sale, Autotrader’s Private Seller Exchange took care of all the required paperwork and posted payment to my bank account within a couple days. Overall I was extremely satisfied with my experience at Autotrader and would highly recommend the site to anyone thinking of selling their vehicle.

It's very unfair that I went through Autotrader because the seller and buyer are verified. The seller pays to list the vehicle and provide a safe reputable vehicle that is verified. Then once a price is agreed too, Autotrader charges the buyer to secure the transaction. This is already what autotrader said has happened. The fees are a little much.

Autotrader is nothing but a scammer farm, where you, the seller, are the hapless crop waiting to be picked by scammer after scammer. I've listed cars on many platforms and never had this volume of scammers - Autorader is WORSE than facebook Marketplace or even craigslist - and that's saying a lot. Choose literally anything else. Autotrader used to be THE source for cars, but now they're just a convenient way for scammers to pick targets.

Easy to understand process for a 1st time seller. Customer service helpdesk was knowledgeable and quick to answer the phone. The only downside were the multiple scam hits in the chat when I first listed, so be very careful!

DONT!!!!!! WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR TIME!!!!! AUTOTRADER = SCAMMERS + BOTS....I am so disappointed in my experience trying to sell a truck on AUTOTRADER. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY ..I got tons of responses to my ad but because Autotrader doesnt even try to filter out scammers and Bots all the responses were scammers it was seriously ridiculous in two days I had over 25 messages all were just scammers... BUYER/SELLER BEWARE Autotrader does absolutley nothing to prevent scammers and bots its not even worth your time if they made it free it would still be a waste of time and energy to try and sell a vehicle on here... WHEN I BLOCKED ONE TWO MORE WOULD RESPOND WASTE OF TIME ...AUTOTRADER WONT EVEN RESPOND TO COMPLAINTS ABOUT SCAMMERS YOUR BETTER OFF USING FACEBOOK MARKET PLACE AT LEAST THERE IS SOME SCAMMER PREVENTION IN PLACE!!! It would be so simple with modern AI tools to create a platform that protects the consumer but all they provide is an open door to scammers and bots . I would never ever suggest anyone place an ad with autotrader unless you are actually wanting to get scammed or have your time and monies wasted by nothing but scammers and aibots trying to scam you for your personal information . what a complete waste !!

Excellent process for selling my car. Super convenient for both buyer and seller and representatives are always available via phone without having to get routed around (like others), and someone always answers my call. The online checklist was amazing and very helpful - and AutoTrader helped me along the way for a smooth sale. Amazing customer service with a special thanks for Corey as he was there for me to help close my car sale on a Saturday! I would highly recommend AutoTrader.
