The process was safe and easy, but mostly because the seller was gem to deal with. Genuine gentleman with an excellent car.

FANTASTIC!!! No reason not to use that service :) It takes all of the risk out of the equation. The seller sends the funds to Autotrader. Once the funds have been confirmed and you do the tasks required, the funds are released. I ended up selling my car to someone who wanted it shipped. SUPER EASY PROCESS. I can't say enough goods things about and I'm not paid to say this!!

I am a U.S. Army Infantry Veteran and a retired NYPD Detective, and I cannot express enough how great my online car purchase experience was with Autotrader Private Seller Exchange. For the longest, I have been searching for my dream car which has been the 2020 Cadillac CT6 as a retirement gift to myself. I've searched every online car website for a very clean, low miles CT6 nationwide. I stayed away from CT6s with accident histories and rebuilt titles. Then on the Autotrader's Private Seller Exchange, I found the perfect CT6 in my home state of New York; a 2020 Cadillac CT6 Premium Luxury with 21,199 miles at $47,000! I didn't have to travel across many states to see the car and test drive it! LOL! Now, I have purchased many vehicles in the past from dealerships, but doing an online purchase with Autotrader was just a refreshing experience. The purchasing process was so great and professionally laid out, that it wasn't at all overwhelming. From the test-drive, the online forms, the downpayment wire-transfer and finally taking possession of my CT6, it was the best car buying experience ever! As a seller, this was really a horrible experience. Over the course of my ad, approximately 15 accounts sent me messages, all of which included an external number, link, or liberal use of the adjective “kindly.” Complete waste of money. I sold my car on FB marketplace! Look elsewhere for your selling needs!

I liked having a neutral third party holding my money and confirming all was good on the seller side.

AutoTrader hit a home run with their Private Seller Network! I started the process on Friday morning and the deal was approved and financed the same day! The safeguards AutoTrader put in place to prevent fraud and theft are amazing. I started the process on Friday and my vehicle is being delivered to me today [Monday]…. More importantly, without me having to go outside my house to start and complete the entire buying process!!!

From finding the vehicle and reaching out to the private seller, to making the offer, completing the application, working with my local DMV, and finalizing the transaction—your team has been there the entire way making it easy for me. I did not realize how easy it would be to actually purchase a vehicle from a private seller. The experience has been amazing, and I would definitely do it all over again if I had to...

Once I registered the communication with the seller was easy and direct, and the process was smooth. I will use it again.

The hole process is so easy and simple for the seller and buyer. Take away a lot of the stress and anxiety of selling your vehicle

They replied to any questions I had quickly. When I called them , answered the phone quickly and always supplied answers. I would use Auto trader again if I was looking for a vehicle in the future.

Easy to advertise and good exposure. Most important to me was to have a safe and secure transaction process and avoid possible scams. The Auto Trader Private Seller Process was safe and efficient and provides responsive support.
I definitely recommend it for peace of mind.

Autotrader's private seller marketplace is absolutely useless. Every inquiry is just a scammer who wastes your time, with the sole goal of trying to trick you into buying fraudulent "vehicle history reports." In 2 months I did not receive a single actual real potential buyer. A complete waste of time and money for their listing fee. I will never use again.

PRIVATE SELLER AD- horrible!!
I created and ad. No way to enter my phone number for the ad. So the first couple of hours all I got was 2 messages from scammers. They’ll ask you a bunch of questions and then when it boils down to it they’ll try and get you to send history or items that contain your name and address. I didn’t fall for it but both guys tried the same tactics. I immediately deleted the ad and then looked into a refund and there website states there are no refunds. WASTE OF $49 bucks

My experience with AutoTrader was extremely disappointing. Every inquiry I received were from scammers or individuals who were not legitimate buyers. Despite paying to list my vehicle, I was unable to connect with any serious purchasers through the platform.

I ultimately sold my vehicle through Facebook Marketplace, which was free to use and generated far more genuine interest. Based on my experience, AutoTrader needs to do a much better job screening inquiries and reducing the volume of scam and spam contacts.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this platform for private vehicle sales and would not use it again.

The Auto Trader staff was very helpful and answered all my questions. It was very pleasing to talk to English
speaking AMERICANS for assistance and not someone in another country.
I would recommend your service as it was overall a smooth transaction purchasing my vehicle from the private seller.

Posting my ad went very well, but Autotrader needs to figure out a better and faster way to weed out the scammers that are littered all over their site. I tried to sell a car private-party and every person who contacted me was a scammer. If I want to combat scammers trying to get me to call phone numbers that I find online as a scam risk, or sending me links to some other vehicle history report service because they don't want Carfax, I'll just save my money and use free classified options.

I’ve been on the buyer side of Autotrader and now the seller side of it and I can confidently say that the platform makes it utterly easy and simple to get in contact with sellers, research the listing in an easy manner, filter on cars in a very sensible way like a poweruser, and to deal with paperwork for purchases and sales. There certainly was spam when I first listed my vehicle but that’s nearly expected on every platform; all you have to do is tell the scammer that you want to stay on the site and they’ll pretty much give up right then and there, as they know there’s nothing they can do with the way the platform’s set up. Customer service is also easy to reach and very responsive

Great experience! It made my life easy! Hassle free and highly protected transactions for both seller/ buyer. Only downside is paying additional sales fee as I already paid for the advertising

The process help with feeling secure and safe when selling to a private buyer, but the web/internet interface was a little clunky and hard to navigate through each step. I had to call the 800 number several times as did the buyer to complete several steps. Overall is was a good experience.

The Seller is a great gentleman who picked my wife and I up at the airport. The vehicle was better than described. I have no complaints whatsoever.
