Indeed, Avvo does censor negative reviews of lawyers, I just found that out for myself.

Back on 2018-08-14 I submitted a negative review for a San Francisco lawyer Joseph Antonio Lepera on the lawyer site avvo.com. Avvo confirmation message said "Your review of Joseph Antonio Lepera has been submitted for approval. Reviews are typically approved in 1-3 days."

My review was approved by Avvo, and publicly posted on their site (that I'm not allowed to link to on here) shortly afterwards. That review can still be seen via Google cache today 2019-02-26, but obviously not for long.

That review was visible on there since August 2018 until today (~ 6 months), when I received an email from Avvo with title "Action required: Your review for Joseph Lepera was not approved" with the vague boilerplate text "We are writing to inform you that your review of Joseph Lepera was not approved because it does not meet our community guidelines".

Avvo did not provide a specific reason for why my negative review was censored, and did not send information on how to appeal their decision. The lawyer's public profile went from 5 reviews -- 1 negative (and on top), 4 positive to just 4 positive.

Avvo's removal notice wording is also dishonest since they are not "not approving" the review that they already approved 6 months ago, but removing it post-approval.

Lawyer's profile now looks clean, but other people will likely have the same negative experience as me (or worse), and without any warning, and without the ability to share about it with others on avvo.com as their negative reviews will likely also get censored.

My suggestion to anybody reading this and considering posting a negative lawyer review on Avvo:

If your review initially gets approved like mine, go to The Wayback Machine and save it on there in case Avvo decides to take it down later. If that happens, save it again in that state, and then Avvo's hypocracy will be easy for anybody to see by comparing those 2 versions, and your original review will still be accessible.

And BTW, most of the positive reviews on here look fake. Avvo, are you posting fake positive reviews on here?? That's dishonest.

Ive used avvo in the past and never had issues. However today I posted question and got rude answers. One in particular lawyer who doesn't even practice in the field my question pertains to, keeps leaving unbelievable rude comments! I can find a customer support email or number to report nor can I find a way to block him. I flagged him but that doesn't stop the issue. If a avvo representative reads this, hopefully you reply by letting me know who to contact that can stop the rude and unprofessional replies!!!

Avvo is a scam. My review of a terrible attorney was approved and posted after 2 days. Then I get an email saying it was removed and the attorney "disputed" it, please reply to this email, and avvo will re-post or help you change your review.

I replied 4 times now, but 45 days later, Avvo won't re-post my review or even reply to tell me what facts were disputed!!

Worst place to find an attorney or even write a bad review. I hired two terrible attorney who took a lot of money from me. I am trying to warn others. AVVO's response every time, "Debbie Lopez Carr's review does not meet our community guidelines. Please take minute to write a new one." How many times am I going to take a minute to write a new one. If, AVVO is going to continue and delete it every time. I am being honest about my case being botched by this attorney. AVVO, would be a great way of looking for an attorney if they accepted good and bad reviews. Please ppl we work hard for our money, while some attorney's are charging $400 an hr to some ppl that's close to what they make a week. Lets be fair here!

Great innovative company founded by Mark Britton, formerly of Expedia. When Avvo came out is was no darling of lawyers.n fact many sued Avvo contesting bad reviews. Most if not all lost.Some of those same lawyers are complaining at this site. I Unlike Google, Avvo does actively police for fake reviews and will remove those. Avvo was sold last year. Whether the new owners live up to Mr. Britton's vision is yet to be determined.

After posting a review a year and a half ago and having it accepted and viewable I just received a rejection notice and it was removed. It said I could submit another one and I did that. What gives? Did the attorney dispute it. If so why so long? I should know if it was disputed. I was a client and that was clear. I thought attorneys could not get their reviews removed. RESOLVED and REVIEW POSTED.

Don't trust their reviews. I have had my negative review posted and then removed several times. They sell their services to attorneys. Don't bother to post a negative review it will be censored/removed.

Fake company which doesnt accept negative reviews, I used them, got a very weak and unprofessional laywer and then they rejected my review

I picked Adam Wilner based on this websites review, but it did not work out for me. He was not helpful, was dismissive, did not care about me and my transaction. Originally gave an all inclusive price, but then charged separately for report and title search. I truly did not enjoy this partnership
