Bishop Auckland College - Awful Communications and PR
Recently I had the misfortune to have to wait for someone who was visiting the college. Rather than wait in the car (it was cold), I went into the college reception and sat down on one of the available chairs. This happened to be outside a room with something like "full-time enrolment' on the door, but there was no-one waiting so the chair was free.
After a while a woman came out of the room and in a very accusatory tone demanded to know what I was doing. I responded that I was waiting for someone but she then demanded to know who I was waiting for (which I declined to say) and told me I couldn't wait there. Rather than simply and politely explaining the 'issue' (presumably some safeguarding-related concern - though I was hardly posing any threat to anyone and had been freely allowed entry into the building) this woman, who had by now developed a face closely resembling the exit to the feline rectum, decided to call college security and even as I left, demanded to the security personnel "we need to know his name !!!"
I have previously been a part-time student of this college and had considered looking at evening classes for languages however yesterday's experience has certainly put me off doing so. The college seriously needs to review its approach to visitors and train staff to behave in a friendly and inviting manner rather that the rude and 'jobsworth' manner I experienced yesterday.
