Never been to such a rude shop !

The store detectives are a bit over the top and the staff rude or almost fearful. I was given incorrect information about an exchange not being told that there are 2 businesses operating from the same store. everything overpriced. I was thinking of buying other items but in the end didnt bother. Will not be returning, lots of places doing this sort of thing now and very expensive.

Hide and Seek Vibes

A restored barn full of eclectic, magazine‑worthy pieces that could convince anyone they urgently need to redecorate. The products are fantastic, and the space itself is a treat to walk through.

The customer experience, though, has a slightly different tone. "Loitering" near the entrance whilst waiting for my better half, I got the sense that staff were a little on edge. The overall vibe had a distinct undertone of customer = potential inconvenience rather than welcome guest.

It was enough to make the experience feel less relaxed than such a lovely space deserves.

It’s a shame, because with a touch more warmth, this place could be a truly special experience if the customer service felt less like surveillance and more like a warm welcome.

SATURDAY 1st November

SATURDAY 1st November

Just wanted to detail my latest experience at a store where I've spent a good deal of money over the years whilst renovating a cottage in the local area... I came away feeling like I perhaps wasn't good enough.. and after having time to reflect and look at what others have experienced I'm just releaved that I am not the only one...

I came to purchase some iron mongary to build shelves and to also browse the store, as I moved through the store a member staff followed me, to the extent when I'd moved into the back of the store into the kitchen department the same member of staff hurriedly appeared, by now I was feeling uncomfortable.. I collected the items on my list and proceeded to the till where 3 members of staff were stood talking.

I even tried to make polite conversation about the scent of the candle I was purchasing to cover how uncomfortable I felt.

Although I didn't come to spend hundreds of pounds, and was dressed in leggings and a hoody after a morning walk with the dogs and a visit to a reclamation yard to pick up scaffolding boards, I am still a local customer that regularly spends in your store...

I will think twice begore recommending or returning.

Really rather odd experience, no customer service

The most unpleasant shopping experience ever, very odd really, unfriendly and dismissive staff, unable to use their toilet despite being remote and a drive from anywhere. Completely unwelcoming, felt uncomfortable and awkward just being there, could not wait to leave and will not be going back.

A wide range of unusual traditional and handmade items

We enjoyed our visit to this interesting homeware store, housed in old converted barn buildings. It has a wide range of unusual, quirky and somewhat traditional and mostly handmade quality items, which are beautifully presented throughout the store. Admittedly some items are on the pricey side, but the items are well made to last. We purchased small items as presents for friends and family and are pleased with our purchases. Many thanks.

Pretentious and unfriendly

Pretentious, clearly full of themselves yet stock overpriced, bang average products. It's the sort of place that unless you come in wearing head to toe god awful barbour and driving a land rover which has never seen mud in its life, you are not the sort they want inside.

Baileys home store -shocking customer service

Baileys home store is undoubtedly a visually beautifully curated store. I was so excited to finally visit it today and had taken the time off work to do so with a friend we drove 1 1/2 hrs to get there.

Sadly the experience was not a good one. I took a photo of something I loved in excitement to show my partner, an older lady I believe the owner literally went for me telling me off in a rude manner leaving me shocked and feeling embarrassed . I apologise for taking a picture but was unaware the store had a no photograph policy .There are ways of communicating this politely . I’m not entirely sure why either as images are all over their Instagram and it is a shop??

As we looked around the store we were then followed as if we were potential shop lifters!! I couldn’t wait to leave I felt so uncomfortable . Despite wanting to buy a number of items they had then lost their appeal and frankly I did’t want to buy anything after their appalling customer service.

They were very cagey about sharing a paint colour on a wall too which I find very petty.

Such a shame : (

Maybe you will read this and take it on board how you make people feel, but I doubt it.

Reply from Baileys

Hi Tina
Thanks for coming to visit our store last Monday, and thanks for your feedback.
We do have a no photography policy in our store, which we have tried to highlight with multiple signage at the front door and around the store.
As you hadn't seen the signs upon your arrival, a staff member approached you and cordially point out our policy, and offered assistance.
Our staff were very busy out in the store on a Monday morning, restocking and tidying after the weekend, but we were mindful not to disturb you again for the rest of your visit.
Our wall colours are often custom colours mixed for us many years ago so this information isn't easy to share.

Absolutely love a visit to Baileys it’s…

Absolutely love a visit to Baileys it’s such a wonderful place to spend a few hours and I always come away with a few new additions for the home on each visit. Their ever changing collection is so tempting. I’ve just bought their Christmas crowns to add to my growing collection. The staff are always so friendly and are always happy to help. I’d also highly recommend their mown grass candle!

One small thing is I just wish they’d offer a paper carrier bag with each purchase rather than having to ask for tissue and a bag to protect the delicate things you’ve just bought.

Owner is the rudest women I have met

This is an email I wrote to the company…. Since looking up the owners of the business. I can now confirm it was the owner of the business who was the woman who approached me

Good afternoon

I am writing to you to make a formal complaint, following my visit to you today.

I am saddened to be writing to you, as I normally throughly enjoy my visits.

My sister asked that we visit you, for her birthday (which is today). I took a days leave from my business and travelled 40miles to your store arriving just before 10.30am.
We enjoyed looking around the first section of your shop, and continued through to the dining area.
I saw a pair of secateurs. My mother in law had requested a pair for Christmas, and I thought they would be perfect. I went to send an image of them to my husband but before I could, I heard the footsteps approaching and looked up to be dressed down by a woman who shouted in an incredibly rude and aggressive manner that I wasn’t to take photos. She added “especially not of books” I tried to explain that it was the secateurs that I was wondering about buying as gift but she was walking away and shouted back “well, they are online”.

To be shouted down in such an aggressive way, caught me completely off guard. I have never been spoken to in such a manner and it left me feeling embarrassed and humiliated.
I had to try my upmost to swallow the “lump” that had appeared in my throat as I desperately didn’t want to spoil my sisters birthday. We have hardly seen each other in 2 years and this, her birthday, was suppose to be a special day. Instead the actions of the woman in the store has completely spoilt my visit, her reaction to an honest mistake was over the top and a quiet word would have sufficed. The situation could and should have been dealt with in a far more courteous way and would have resulted in me enjoying my shopping trip with a healthy basket of items.

Sadly, when I mentioned this at the till point the staff seemed to smirk and smil, and I didn’t feel that they really took on board any of my concerns. After driving home and thinking of nothing else, I felt that I needed to contact you to further. I am honestly appalled by the behaviour of your staff. Having looked at your google and Facebook reviews, it appears that I am not the only person to have had this experience, and therefore feel you should have more respect for your customers and revisit your business ethos.

Closed toilet facilities for a destination store.

We had made the trip especially to Baileys yesterday as I don't live locally and this was a destination visit with my parents ( who are both in their 70's) We were all excited about our visit, in particular my parents who have been in lockdown for the year. On arrival having been stuck in some unfortunate traffic we were all in need of using the bathroom. I asked at the till point if the customer toilets were open and were told without any apology that they weren't. We all had to leave immediately as I knew my mum wouldn't be able to hold on, together with myself at 8 months pregnant. What a shame as we all looking forward to having a good look around! If you are a destination business it is so important that you provide customer toilet facilities. Having read reviews from previous customers it sadly seems that customer service is not a high priority. For such a beautiful homeware store it is such a shame that the same effort isn't put into caring for you customer base as much as your creative displays.

Two too short overpriced sofas

I ordered two Sophie sofas which were delivered just before Christmas. The delivery men were helpful, the colour and fabric were just what I wanted. However, the size was not. The dimensions on my invoice were clearly stated: the length being 183cm and as I needed sofas 180cm to 190cm for the space I had available, 183cm was ideal. After the delivery men had gone and I looked at the sofas, I realised they looked odd, both in their proportions and in the space, so I measured them. They were both 175cm long - so basically about 95% of the length stipulated. I wrote to Baileys to tell them and was told I am most likely incapable of measuring correctly (as a designer I would dispute that!) and as the sofas were made to order there would be variations. However, as both sofas were the same length and the short measurement profited either the producer or seller but not the buyer, this is a specious point. If this failure to adhere to the agreed sizing is not deliberate, I would think the sofas would range 8cm over length as often as under, which could be equally inconvenient to the purchaser, and would definitely eat into the provider's profit.
I ordered from Baileys, rather than John Lewis or similar, to support a local independent retailer but will not be giving them further business. Some of the items they stock may be attractive but who wants to deal with a retailer that makes one feel short-changed? Shame.

I have made several visits to Baileys…

I have made several visits to Baileys and there is no question that they sell some lovely products, many of which feel unique and distinctive, though often over-priced. But all my visits have been marred by a decidedly rude and unempathetic mature woman who seems to be in charge. Customer care doesn't seem to be in her vocabulary and such a strange smugness. The younger staff are much more helpful. It is such a shame as it ruins the experience. Normally I would recommend an outlet with interesting and creative products but honestly, the customer care kills the pleasure. A simple change of staff would solve things.

Appalling customer service

I bought 6 mugs (pottery ones costing £17.50 each) as a Christmas present for my son & his wife. One had a hairline crack in it which meant it wouldn't hold liquid. A potter has told us this is due to the glaze cracking when it is cooled too quickly after coming out of the kiln. It was hard to see with the naked eye and only apparent when we put tea in it and it leaked. My daughter in law rang them to tell them. They asked for photos which she provided. They refuse to admit it is their fault and replace the mug despite numerous phone calls and say she must have caused the damage herself which is untrue. I can't believe their attitude and will never deal with them again. Beware!
