Hot cross bun comparison.

I wanted to do a comparison between Woolworths and Bakers Delight hot cross buns. Bakers delight cost $9.50 Woollies was $1.10 (on special down from $4.50(??) because they were old). First thing, the Bakers Delight buns were bigger but they had no fruit. Basically a sweet bread roll! I was quite disappointed. On the other hand, the Woolies bun was full of fruit and flavour and once it was toasted, was vastly superior to the Bakers Delight bun. The summary, you pay twice as much for slightly more material and an inferior product.

Knead to Know

I was overcharged for cheese and bacon rolls at my local Bakers Delight Dromana. After raising it with the store, I was told the mistake was due to young/inexperienced staff, and that I should have been offered a six-pack of rolls.

I then emailed a formal complaint. The response thanked me for the information and said it would be used to retrain new staff — but no compensation was offered, despite acknowledging the error.

I followed up again to query this and received no response at all.

Mistakes happen, especially with junior staff, but how a business handles the complaint matters. In this case, the issue was acknowledged, responsibility was deflected to staff training, and then communication stopped entirely. Very disappointing customer service for a well-known brand.

This is a case of a 1.1 billion dollar profit company that would not offer a refund on an error.
Do yourself a favour avoid the corporate corruptors and support a local independent.

On Christmas Eve I purchased two loafs…

On Christmas Eve I purchased two loafs of Continental Bread as requested by my family. I had both units sliced (first mistake). On Christmas Eve we had the first loaf, and it was not fresh, so much so I would say it was not baked that day, the same day as I purchased it. We did not use the other loaf on Christmas day because of its lack of freshness. But as I said my family usually loves this bread, I purchase two more loaves on the 31st of December 2025, exactly the same problem. The only conclusion I can make is that during busy times like Christmas and New Years Eve, they do not bake all their bread fresh. I can only assume they store loaves over a number of days which diminishes the quality of the product. As I have informed my family, why should I waste more of my money on an inferior product when they refuse to eat it, when you could buy many other options and get fresher bread for special occasions.

No care and no responsibility

I contacted Head Office joint CEOs with a complaint about being overcharged and the quality of the traditional easter buns this year. I opted to send a letter because I got no response from the on line form.
What a disappointment ~ it is June and still no response. A customer service experience of zero Baker’s Delight.

Overreacting and unreasonable manager/owner

This experience was at the store located at Coltman's Plaza in the suburb of Lucas, Victoria.

While the products being sold here are of excellent quality, I will add that the manager is nothing but rude and abusive. I visited the store on the 6th of April to purchase some bakery items for the week. I was wanting to be served by an employee I had dealt with before, but after a while I decided to come back later by making a few purchases at the Supermarket. I then came to wait for this employee, but then decided to let another employee help me. As she was preparing my bakery items to be billed, I was asked if I preferred to wait for the other employee, to which I answered yes to.

While waiting, the manager called for my attention and pulled me to the side as he wanted to discuss something with me. He told me right from the get go that I was making his employee ‘uncomfortable’. I asked how this was happening, to which he responded by saying that said employee was a school going pupil and that I was making them uncomfortable, called me a creep and informed me that he’d called the police on me.

I told him all I wanted to do was give this employee the sale (the same employee I had dealt with before) and he wasn’t having it. He repeatedly said I was making this employee uncomfortable. Never once justified this response.

I left insulted and disgusted. What kind of a manager gets the police involved if a customer wishes to deal with a specific employee, I couldn’t tell you.

If a business owner/manager treats loyal customers this way, one is sure to go elsewhere to purchase bakery items and this is exactly what I will be doing. I hope Bakers Delight takes note of this when I bring this to their attention and understands that managers cannot be treating loyal customers this way.
