Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 80 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently encountered poor service, reporting poorly managed locations that focused more on selling unnecessary services and packages than actual pet care. Many found the staff consistently rude, dismissive, and unhelpful, often refusing assistance or hanging up during important conversations. Reviewers also expressed significant dissatisfaction with the exorbitant pricing, feeling ripped off by unexpected charges, upselling, and costs much higher than elsewhere, indicating a prioritization of money over animal welfare. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that some staff members were friendly, helpful, and caring towards their pets, with specific vets and technicians being knowledgeable and informative.

15 year customer

I have been taking my 15 year old chihuahua to the same location since a puppy and I refuse to change the location even when we moved. The women in our location are friendly, answer all my questions and are overall helpful. The two doctors are also very good at explaining treatment plans as well as suggestions if plan a isnt an option budget wise.
When my dog fell down the stairs and lost the ability to walk, they were quick to reasure me that even if they could only do so much, there were places we could take her. They gave out a list of recommended places for spin issues and it turned out little Luna learned to walk again

Do NOT bring your animals here

I adopted an elderly cat from my local shelter and wanted to get him established with a vet. I decided in Banfield because they had wellness plans for senior pets. I signed up for it and took him. Well he ended up being very sick and in the end I had to help my sweet boy cross the rainbow bridge. He went there a total of 3 times. The only services included in the plan were his office visits and one set of X-rays he had. The rest I PAID for. I did get a discount on the meds and his euthanasia but I still paid well over $100 for both things. When I messaged them to cancel they said that I had used over $900 in services and had to pay the remaining $700 and something after my payments had come out. I was not happy. They “discounted” it down to $400 and something. I’m sorry but there is NO way for 3 visits it cost over $900 when they barely did anything. So not only did I lose my beloved cat, now I get to be reminded every month when my payments come out. Mind you he passed before the second payment even came out. Do NOT bring your animals here. All they care about is money.

Please don't trust this company for your pet's care.

I hope and pray someone else sees this and decides to take their pet to another location. If this grotesque behavior is being covered up, lord knows what else is.
We had a major issue with the office manager at the Hutto, TX location.
They were understaffed and she was handling the work of a vet tech, so I am told.
My dog Jax and I were in a room one on one, and she flat out wouldn't let me leave. She kept asking if we wanted additional shots and services not covered in the wellness plan that also weren't regularly scheduled. I understand hitting numbers, but this was flat out being held without consent.
After being harassed with fear mongering about how sick my dog will get 5 or 6 times after saying no, I had to ask if calling the authorities will get me out of there.
Needless to say, a WILD experience. Horrendous salesmanship but more importantly, if this is happening to me it's happening to others and it's disgusting. When I was able to leave, I asked the front desk if we can cancel the plan we just signed up for and was told I cannot (which was a lie. It was within 4 days).
I spoke with a Dr. Kelly for an hour+ and she did everything she could to take accountability for the god-awful experience and stated she will work with her team and this person so that never happens again.

Fast forward some months and sure enough that same office manager put notes in our account about me being aggressive and they would only talk to my spouse about the dog. No notes left about the office managers actions whatsoever. The gas lighting to cover it all up is nuts!

I was contacted on 4/28 by a Dr. Toni Franken after submitting what had happened to corporate. She was polite but completely biased and only interested in looking out for the company not the customer who was badgered, harassed, and ridiculed.

From BAD to Pretty Good

I have to stop and write a good review. The Banfield in Valley Stream, NY used to SUCK. No one answering the phone when you call, extremely hard to get an appointment. If you were early, you were made to wait like a petulant child as if being early was a fault. BUT, they have done almost a complete 300. Yes, not completely 360, but I was impressed. I had to come back for an appointment that could have been done when I was there 2 weeks before, and I have to go back because no one mentioned the fecal exam. No worries, I got the tube and will plan on bringing in the poop when I am back on that side of town. I travel an hour because I love the Drs there (even though the last 2 times they were not on point as they usually are). I will continue to drive the hour and I love the improvements. Get to the 360 folks! :)

Unethical unnecessary testing to bill more

My dog had started urinating indoors. Healthy dog otherwise. I wanted to know if it was medically related or behavioral. Took him in to get a urinalysis to rule out the medical cause. I was told by the vet that he had a high PH but otherwise his urine was normal, no infection. The vet then suggested I get bloodwork and X-Rays.

When asked why she responded to rule out diabetes or thyroid. I could rule out thyroid because he is extremely active and has a normal appetite. I was puzzled by the diabetes testing because his glucose levels in the urinalysis were normal. They were just trying unnecessary tests to rack up the bill. I refused.

Just to educate myself I researched high PH in dog urine. There is a study by the University of Wisconsin Veterinary School that shows canine PH urine levels peak between 9-11am. Why, the dog has been sleeping overnight and consumed less water. The vet should know this, I took him in at 9:30am!

Customer Service working with me.

I called in December to cancel my dogs membership and was told I couldn't cancel or even schedule a cancellation until March so I'd have to keep paying until at least then but I would have to call back to complete the actual cancellation. I called back today April 13th. I was told my membership is a year long and can't be cancelled until June. BUT because of the notes written from the 1st call back in Dec 2025 they honored what I was told and cancelled it today. I was stunned and pleasantly surprised. I felt it was fair even if the first guy gave me bad info, the stipulations are the stipulations so I really appreciated that they honored their own customer service reps incorrect guidance/instructions to me back in Dec.

Do not trust your pet’s with Banfield…

Do not trust your pet’s with Banfield SalinasHardenRanch. My pet had a cardiac event in September 2025 during a anesthesia related dental cleaning. 10 minutes into the procedure she had to be reversed. Despite this Dr. Murillo marked the teeth as polished scaled and complete. Made a notation that e echocardiogram and holistic were recommended. Later that afternoon at discharge i left believing everything had gone well. Subsequent Visits in October and December with the same veterinarians licensed to practice in CA examined my pet without follow-up no evaluation or risk assessment. Manual entries were made in a modern system that is used by Banfield for the automatic processing and recording of lab work etc , In December i terminated services with Banfield for unrelated issues an active investigation is ongoing with the VMB and guess what? They didn't try claiming that i owed them money for breaking the contract as they apparently do with everyone. Moving forward as i am reviewing records i discovered the cardiac event on my own. In March i took my pet for an exam an echo was recommended and my cat had it today. Waiting interpretation.
Banfield corporate Customer Experience Dept is just as complicit. Refusing to release the underlying records i specifically requested even when i let them know it's necessary for proper evaluation of my pet's health and insurance purposes. That is how much they value pet’s wellness. These people do not deserve tge honor of tending to your pet’s wellness. Sure do not uphold the veterinarians oath.

Buyer beware on their wellness plans

I was with Banfield after I rescued my Pixie in 2018. I had their wellness plan. This week I had to make the decision to put her down. I asked how do I go about stopping the monthly payments since my girl is gone. I was told that the plan is a contract and cannot be stopped until renewal date. They refused to stop the payments. It is so wrong to have to continue to pay for something when you cannot use their services. Buyer beware.

Don’t use Banfield

Don’t use Banfield. Both my mother and myself had to euthanize our cats a week apart and both were due to subpar treatment. Long story short, go to a local vet. No major issues with my cat they wanted to do her teeth. I think it’s more of a scam to max out insurance use! Told me her blood work was fine. Immediately after she began to blow up with fluid. Took her back they said they had to drain fluid off her. She didnt recover from that and let hospital said they put all her major organs into shock. I advised my mom to go to the branch I was using before this happened because her cat was spitting up food. Again, they take her pet too out back so you can’t see whatever they are doing. He became very ill and she had to put her cat to sleep as well a week after me! Not a coincidence!! It’s subpar care. I should have gone with my gut feeling when they take your pet out back and you are not present for any of the visit. On top of that, left with a huge payment for medical plan after having to spend 1200 for pet hospital and cremation plus help my elderly mom cover her own costs. Avoid them. I blame myself for even taking her to them for care to begin with.

Cancellation process

Experience with the nursing staff and receptionist I came in contact with had no issues. One thing I would like new clients to know before they decide to get a wellness plan from Banfield. Have them explain the CANCELATION process to you. It was never explained to me and I am finding out I have to pay to cancel my plan. Only reason I am canceling my plan is I found a vet hospital closer to home and better to take my fur baby to. But yes have them explain the Cancellation process in full detail.

They bring you in by telling you it's a…

They bring you in by telling you it's a free appointment to see your dog they don't look at your dog It's just a lady looking at your dog and asking you if you have any concerns about the dog You don't even meet the doctor but then they want to sell your insurance be careful what you sign for because regardless of the insurance they want to charge you every time you go to visit so it's the it's the same thing as paying for visit. You end up paying every month insurance that your pet doesn't even need. And you pay same thing per visit It's a trap I will never recommend this hospital to nobody and when you try to cancel the insurance they give the turnaround and that free visit that they offer you in the front they want to charge you for it never had this experience before my life and I'm 54 years old and have had many pets. I just moved to Ft. Lauderdale but they are not good.

Banfield killed our child!

I will never go back to Banfield pet hospital again. They killed our baby. The doctor there has several bad reviews all talking about how he has given the wrong treatment for mild symptoms that somehow resulted in death of the pet. The same happened to our baby. How can Banfield hire someone with this kind of history? Banfield is not only responsible for the death of our happy but they are in fact still adamant of charging us till October for the wellness plan. I will get justice for happy

Horrible experience with Pensacola Banfield…

Horrible experience with Banfield Pensacola, FL. Please see review on google. Owner had replied to email requesting that we email them directly (Bandield Cares). Emailed them on Friday and no reply as of today. They also deleted their reply. Requesting that corporate look into the matter. Apparently we aren’t the only ones who’ve been treated and spoke to w/o consideration at this particular location. My next steps include contacting credentialing for this facility. Since management and their owners do not care, I’m sure some department handling that hospital and its so called providers will care.

STAY AWAY-Do yourself and your pet a favor: go anywhere else.

STAY AWAY. If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. This place cares about one thing only money. Your pet’s wellbeing isn’t even on their radar. Whether your animal is sick or even dies, all they care about is making sure they get paid for their wellness plan.
I had my dog with them for nine years. When I called to tell them he had passed, they didn’t offer a single word of sympathy. No “sorry for your loss,” nothing. Instead, they immediately told me I still had to finish out my contract and launched into how much they had “spent.” It was cold, insensitive, and honestly disgusting.
Their care is subpar at best, and I would never recommend trusting them with any animal. Everything is about pushing their products medications, food, whatever they can profit from rather than what’s actually best for your pet.
Do yourself and your pet a favor: go anywhere else.

Missiagnosed and undertreated

If you want your pet misdiagnosed and undertreated, definitely go to Banfield. My dog has lived with a torn ACL for months while I tried to get him help elsewhere, because our Banfield vet said she found nothing by just glancing at some X-rays and I just knew in my gut she was wrong. I am beginning to doubt those X-rays even exist because I asked for them to be sent to another veterinarian multiple times and they never did it after assuring me they would. But don't worry, they didn't hesitate to greatly exaggerate his bloodwork to try to get me to given them more money for pills and supplements. It's a shame because we were customers for 12 years, but once my dog actually began to have health problems they became suddenly incompetent and lazy. I'm furious because now we're looking at an expensive surgery that could've been avoided or minimized with proper care.

Neglect to pet from vet team and clinic turning off phones early on purpose

About 5–8 minutes after leaving the clinic, my dog suddenly began swelling and having trouble breathing, clearly showing signs of a reaction shortly after the visit.

In a panic, I called the clinic for help. Ania at the front desk did not answer my calls starting at 5:43 PM, even though the clinic closes at 6 PM. I called 14 times and have phone records showing it. When I addressed it later, she first said the phone lines “act funny,” then said she was alone and busy. Ignoring repeated calls from a distressed pet owner while the clinic is still open is extremely concerning.

When I brought the reaction to the veterinary staff’s attention, the male vet tech was dismissive — smiling, giggling, and shrugging as if it was no big deal. When I asked why my dog had not been given Benadryl or any precaution, he responded, “I asked if you had concerns and you said no.” It is not the owner’s responsibility to anticipate possible medical reactions — that is the veterinary team’s responsibility.

To make matters worse, while I was visibly shaking and crying, Dr. Tracy Scola came out holding her own dog, shrugged, and said something along the lines of, “Okay, I already told you… it happened, so what.” The lack of empathy in that moment was shocking, especially coming from a veterinarian.

The only person who showed kindness was a woman in the grooming department who answered my call and helped me when no one else would. I’m very grateful to her.

My dog has been a patient since 2018 and has years of records showing he suffers from allergies and typically receives prophylactic medication with injections. He regularly receives Cytopoint, with the last dose administered by this same Aventura location on 10/26/2025. This raises serious concerns about whether patient records are actually being reviewed before treatment.

Even more concerning, the records they printed for me from today’s visit do not document that my dog had an allergic reaction, the injection they gave him to treat the reaction, or the medications they sent home with me. The medication order was even written by hand. This makes me question whether they plan to properly add this reaction and treatment to my dog’s medical record at all — something that absolutely should be documented for his safety in the future.

I have been a Banfield client at other locations (like Sunrise) where the staff were always professional, cautious, and empathetic. Unfortunately, this experience at the Aventura location completely changed my outlook. I will be canceling my medical plan and strongly encourage other pet owners to think carefully before trusting this location with their pets. don’t even bother responding to my complaint because i already reached out to Mars Veterinary Health

Really bad service

I have my dog on a plan. I brought her in for an ear infection. They sent me home without cleaning out her ear, which they told me I needed to do as well as give her the ear medicine. When I took her back in for checkup, they told me it looked like the infection was still there. They did not look inside. I took her to a different vet and they found the cause of the infection which was a piece if foxtail. Banfield in Folsom is a terrible vet. Don’t take your dog there.

Give serious thought before enrolling…

Give serious thought before enrolling in Banfield’s pet insurance. They have shown me twice that they are anything but customer‑friendly. The first time was when one of our pets passed away in the middle of a contract year and they refused to cancel the plan. The second time happened recently: we renewed our plan in good faith, assuming—incorrectly—that all PetSmart locations in Texas had a Banfield clinic. After moving to the Lufkin area and discovering the nearest Banfield is over two hours away, they again refused to cancel the contract we had just renewed in December.
Very unsatisfied customer (until December).
