Barclays lost another long time customer!

In 2025, Barclays suddenly decreased my credit limit from $6,600 to $250, citing one 2-day delinquency in my 14 years with Barclays. This is despite my excellent credit history and explaining I was in the hospital for four weeks for emergent brain surgery! Barclays has been having financial issues recently with branches closing and losses tied to the collapse of major business partners. In addition to cutting my credit limit, they no longer tier match with Caesars Rewards. Due to the loss of earning benefits and unusable credit limit, I'm cutting my ties with Barclays.

Was good until I had a zero balance

Was good until I had a zero balance. The following month they charged me $20.03 in finance charges. When I called the rep told me it was a charge that was legit for the previous month even though I had no balance. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE!

This company is horrible

This company is horrible. Make all payments on time and they will still lower your available credit line without notice. Also, they will close the account if you don't use it as often as they like and hurt your credit. They will say because of lack of use and try and add that it's also because of high use reported on your credit which is false. DO NOT GET A BARCLAY CARD!!

Goodbye Barclay After 20+ Years

I've been with Barclay for over 20 years, but today was the last straw. I pay my balance in full every month and have never paid a penny of interest to this company. My credit rating is immaculate. So last night I was in Home Depot and decided to buy a new refrigerator. My card was denied. Four times. They said my account had a restriction on it for a single purchase. I've bought airline tickets before totaling over $3000 and it went through fine. I left HD without my fridge. Today I call and they send me verification codes to my email. I'm reading them to the guy on the phone and he said they aren't correct. After three times, they brick my account. They request three things: copy of my driver's license, copy of my social security card, and copy of a local utility bill showing my address. I hit the roof. I said "Gee, why don't I just send you a pint of my blood and the keys to my house also?" She said she would send her info to a trusted merchant, and I said "BINGO, you are not a merchant I trust ". Too much bad water under the bridge and been hung up on too many times . I told her she wasn't very smart and said cancel my account right then. She had a smirky attitude with me but finally got my account cancelled. Horrible company,--- they treat YOU like the bad guy and customer service is pulp. Only company worse than this is Comcast.

Don't even deserve 1 star

Don't even deserve 1 star. The most deceitful, dishonest of companies I have ever dealt with. They have treated me like a criminal despite having provided every piece of verifiable document imaginable with exception to my own blood. One day they state I'm verified and the next day, they lock the account. Don't ever open a card with this company, you will only age 5 years and regret it!

1 Star - Security Paranoia or Identity Risk?

I had a decent experience with Barclaycard for a few years, but that changed instantly over a simple ebook purchase. They flagged the transaction and locked my account, which is fine—until I tried to resolve it.

I called multiple times and was connected to an offshore support team (India / Thats Right People! Scam Central) that demanded I fax my original Social Security Card and Birth Certificate. This is not standard protocol for any modern financial institution and felt like a massive security risk. When I refused to send such sensitive documents via fax, they completely bricked my account.

I spent the next six months paying off my balance on a card I couldn’t even use. To make matters worse, once the balance was cleared, they sent me a new card but refused to let me activate it.

If you value your time and the security of your most sensitive personal documents, stay away from this company. Their "security" measures are archaic, and their customer service (Indian Based) is a bureaucratic nightmare. Be extremely careful—they will hold your account hostage for info you should never be faxing.

Goodbye Barclays

Firsr, Barclays cancelled my card without notice even though the card is good through 10/27 and I have outstanding credit. Several reasons given, none of which were truthful.
I had to call them to issue a new card. Now I am overseas and they have provided no support in helping me receive the card. It has sat in the local Fedex office for 3 days undelivered. I chatted at length this morning with the customer representative at Barclays, a fellow by the name of "Ronel" who flatly refused to anything more than "reassure me" that the card would be with me by tonight.I could clearly see on the FedEx website that it has been sitting undelivered for 3 days. Guess what? Still there. Asked to speak to a supervisor and he said I could be called back in ONE OR TWO DAYS. Ronel could have just told the truth that there was nothing he was able to do, and I would understand that, but to continue to gaslight me is unacceptable. Goodbye to Barclays, American Airlines made the right move in tossing you for Citibank.

I’ve been really disappointed with my…

I’ve been really disappointed with my experience using my Barclays credit card. When I had an issue with a purchase and needed help resolving it, their customer service was less than helpful. I reached out multiple times hoping for clear answers and support, but I mostly got vague responses and little follow‑through. What should have been a simple issue to fix turned into a frustrating process that left me feeling ignored as a customer. I have since cancelled this card and would not recommend anyone get it.

The worst customer service

The worst customer service. I thought I paid off my balance but I had a hidden fee of $4.00. I ignored the
payment since I thought it was a mistake. After 1 month, it grew to $8.00. The rep would not waive the late payment!!

Buyer beware - purchases accrue an interest rate of 33% - probablly one of the highest rates in the industry.

Be really careful with this credit card…

Be really careful with this credit card company. I have automatic payments set up on my credit and every month, even though it pays, the account says “past due” and tacks on a charge do the next month. It took me almost a year to realize what was happening. I called multiple times, got the run around from every customer service person who gave me the most outlandish reasons for this. I literally lost hundreds of dollars to this company. Then it’s “oh well we can’t change the minimum payment because our system can’t recognize the payment was made on time”, so they tell you they will credit your account and they don’t. I have started paying a week early now to make sure this doesn’t happen, and that if it does they can’t try and be like “oh well the payment posted next day”. It’s literal theft.

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE - DON'T GET THIS CARD

I am a great customer. I make the full payment every month. I never pay late. I got the card because my girls love GAP & Bananna Republic. I made a purchase with another company, using the card and the merchandise was stolen off the truck. I opened a case and no one at Barclay searched anything and charged me fully for the purchase and when I called no one spoke English and they stated they would re-open the case. I am Barclay's customer - not the other way around. I closed out the Card, was able to dispute the purchase and get all my money back on the card. Barclay lost a good customer today.

Customer service unsatisfactory

I have been involved with two separate disputes with merchants and in both cases, Barclays sided with the merchant. The most recent with the Holiday Inn who could not guarantee my wife a handicap accessible room. Her injury occurred after I booked (withbooking.com) Had to cancel andy money was not refunded after stating the refund minus a service fee would be . Barclays makes the card holder do all the leg work. Their investigation was poorly completed and the communication with me during this process was also unsatisfactory.

BEWARE!!!

BEWARE!!!!
Do not use this bank!
I would leave zero stars if I could! This company stole almost $800 in accrued reward money! When my stepdad passed they didn’t mention it or send a letter like they claimed. This money should have gone to his spouse but no, nothing, to bad so sad.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would! This company are complete crooks who should be shut down for what they do to their customers. Always made on time payments which they rewarded by raising my interest rate to a whopping 33%! That is not a nice interest fee to be charged every month. When I had finally had enough and paid the card off in route to closing it, these scammers charged me yet another interest payment after I had already paid off my balance! Unbelievable. Run and don’t look back!

I will NEVER use this card again

I will NEVER use this card again, will pay my balance and close the account. Barclays is shady, their customer service is rude /read solely from scripts, and disputes are in writing by snail mail.

It has been two months of 15-20 phone calls to Barclay and a 71 page dispute letter clearly showing the email trail between me and the vendor. The vendor was a scam, I didn’t receive the promised services that I paid for and Barclays treated me like a criminal. The icing on the cake: I was told by Barclays that my case was now out of the dispute timeframe and it was nothing they could do.

They advertise a $200 bonus for…

They advertise a $200 bonus for depositing $30k but they only mention in the fine print that it needs to be deposited within 30 days.

The advertising for that bonus doesn't mention anything like that. It seems deliberately deceptive.
