Scammers

I noticed that i had 2x direct debits from 'Bauer Consumer Med' neither of which I had set up (I have never purchased from this company before). Not sure how they managed to do that but thankfully I noticed both and reported to my bank as fraud.

Very poor value for money

Social Ads sales person did not understand product they were selling. Price was very, very expensive compared to going to Facebook direct. Ad seems to have been tagged to wrong magazine so it did not hit target audience. Struggling to see what they bought to the campaign? No one took any responsibility, it was always someone else's problem at Bauer to explain what was being delivered / how or even if problems had been corrected. I will not use them again. Facebook is so easy and cheap, just do it yourself - don't pay the extra.

Did not consent to a Direct Debit

Did not consent to a Direct Debit. Found that they were taking my money from a direct debit that I have never signed up for. I have no idea how they have managed this scam. Avoid at all costs and check your direct debits.

Took my money without my consent

I don’t know how but I noticed this company taking money from my account, I have never heard of them never subscribed to them, I don’t read magazines and I haven’t had any delivered. Will be lodging a complaint with my bank about them and ensuring they can’t take any more money. Shocking terrible illegal stay away at all costs

Hopeless service.

Got a subscription for TV Guide . Meant to be sent weekly. Okay at first but then they failed to send two issues. All they did was extend my subscription by another week each time. Finally they missed another two weeks and then sent the previous week on the Friday so I got one day out of that issue! I have cancelled my automatic renewal and had to block the continuous payment agreement at the bank but stuck with them until August! Never again! No point having a subscription if you cannot rely on getting the magazine !

Taking money off an 87 year old lady!

My mother pays a subscription for 3 different magazines that she loves. However at 87 she is constantly bombarded by phone calls trying to get her to sign up to other publications she does not want. Even when she says no they sign her up regardless and send her them plus they start direct debits she hasn’t authorised. Six times they rang her one week . I tell her to hang up but she is too polite. This is harassment . Spoke to her today and it’s happened again. She says she shouted down the phone she didn’t want them and still they came. 3 different magazines she has no interest in. She is extremely distressed. Luckily her bank manage to get the money back for her but it shouldn’t go out of her bank in the first place. I don’t live locally or I would be waiting for them to ring. How many other vulnerable people does this happen to. I’m shocked and disgusted an old lady is being targeted like this. If any one has an elderly relative who has subscriptions like this I would check they are not being forced into magazines they don’t want. This company should be ashamed of itself. Couldn’t give a no star review. AVOID. They are thieves!!

What everyone else said.
Overpriced, definitely, and I, too, wished that I had seen these reviews beforehand.

They deserve zero

They deserve zero. Shocking company. Charged me twice in one week for a one monthly subscription country walking magazine. Ignored my emails repeatedly when I asked for an explanation and refund.

shady business practices

I paid for a two-year subscription to a magazine. I stopped getting the magazine months ago. I did not want to renew and I made it clear to the company I did not want to renew. They told me they wouldn’t be renewing it, don’t worry. Then guess what? They charge my card without my consent. I never signed up for a recurring subscription. Just filed a dispute with a credit card company. Magazines shouldn’t be this difficult. It is near impossible to contact them. Finally got in touch with them. They refunded me and supposedly took me off the auto renew list.

Horrendous company

They keep taking payments when I don't even have access to one magazine yet, they said I couldn't cancel within the 14 day cooling off period even though the original email said I could, everything they say is a lie and they're the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of encountering. I subscribed through greatmagazines.com so didn't realize I'd be dealing with this terrible company.

Garden News subscription - poor value, useless customer service

Took out subscription for Garden News to save a few pennies on each issue.

Subscription issues do not include all the free packs of seeds that are included with copies available through newsagents. For example, last week's newsagent copy included 6 packs of seeds "worth £10" - subscription copy included 1 pack of seeds.

So saved pennies on each issue only to have lost pounds on packs of seeds.

I have asked Bauer for an explanation, no response so far, and have followed this up with a request to cancel subscription and for a refund. Reading other reviews I am not holding out much hope.

Thankfully subscription is only for 3 months. Lesson learnt - Bauer is history.

An update
------------
Actually received a response from Bauer:

"Thank you for your email.

I am very sorry for the late response regarding your seeds and any disappointment caused.

I can confirm that all subscribers receive over £29 worth of the seeds over the year.

Therefore, they may not be sent with every magazine.

As a result, having a subscription works out as more of a saving than purchasing the magazine in the shop, therefore we cannot always guarantee the same number of seeds sent as the issues available in the shops.

We really appreciate your loyalty as a subscriber and hope you continue to enjoy your reduced subscription rate. Once again please accept my apologies and I hope this information helps.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further assistance.

Kind Regards,
Maricar Q"

Unfortunately this failed to answer the question I had put to them, which was why do subscribers receive fewer free packs of seeds so I have emailed back with the following:

"Thank you for your email Maricar but a) you have not answered the question which was why do subscribers receive fewer free packs of seeds, and b) you are incorrect stating that "having a subscription works out as more of a saving than purchasing the magazine in the shop".

One of the reasons I purchase Garden News is the free packs of seed and I simply took out a subscription to save a few pennies on each issue.

Subscription issues do not include all the free packs of seeds that are included with copies available through shops. For example, a recent week's shop copy included 6 packs of seeds "worth £10" - subscription copy included 1 pack of seeds. Having taken out the subscription I have saved pennies on each issue only to have lost pounds on packs of seeds - this is not "more of a saving".

Can you please cancel my subscription and provide a refund so that I can resume buying the magazine locally. "

Not holding my breath...
