Posting this review again as it was originally shared over 4 months ago and I have still not been contacted. Zoe, the owner of the business, has ignored both this review and multiple emails. I also raised these concerns in a comment on the business’s Facebook page, which was removed within less than a minute rather than addressed. As a business owner myself, I would never ignore a client complaint. This behaviour genuinely reflects a lack of care for both the business and its clients. The focus appears to be on taking money rather than providing a quality service, which I find appalling.
I signed up for a 6 week gundog course, expecting to work directly with Zoe, as advertised. Instead, the sessions were run by a different trainer, Emma. While the first session was relatively fine, things quickly went downhill.
I have a reactive dog. Although we weren’t attending primarily for gundog training (which we already practise), the aim was to work on desensitisation, focus, and engagement around distractions. This is something we intentionally expose him to by joining classes from time to time. Unfortunately, Emma’s approach was completely unsuitable for my dog’s needs.
During the second session, when my dog began to struggle, we were largely ignored which is fine, as I am capable of handling my dog. However, when Emma did eventually approach us, her suggestion was to lure him with a treat. This was entirely inappropriate given his reactive behaviour. Any experienced “behaviourist” (what she calls herself) should understand that in these moments a dog is in a fight or flight response, not a mindset where food is effective.
Overall, Emma appeared disengaged, the sessions felt rushed, and there was no follow-up email or summary of what had been covered something I consider the bare minimum for clients to reflect on and build upon between sessions.
While I understand she calls herself a dog behaviourist, that role should come with at least a basic understanding of canine behaviour. That is the bare minimum expectation??!!
I raised my concerns directly with Zoe via email, but as I was ignored, I am left with no choice but to share my experience publicly. I paid £195 for six weeks of 45 minute sessions, which felt like extremely poor value for money given the lack of depth, engagement, and knowledge shown. The classes felt more like they were being run to maximise profit rather than to genuinely support dogs and their owners.
It gives me no pleasure to leave a poor review; however, important to be honest for the benefit of others.
I booked a total of 32 puppy training courses and, later, an Ultimate Recall Course. I have to say that the puppy training was excellent and both me and my GSD learnt a lot.
The problem came when the trainer left and the company rearranged training, mid-course, changing the day, time, and location of the training. This meant that training was no longer viable for me, so I asked for a refund of nearly £364. Initially the company refused to refund any of the money, including for the Ultimate Recall course that had not started and had not even had a start date confirmed. They quoted their T&Cs, which said these things could be changed. However, in law, T&Cs have to be reasonable, and changing every variable simply wasn't. Talking to others, I quickly found out that this treatment was not unusual and that a refund would only be secured if I took things to the brink of the small claims court. So this is what I did. As an incentive and good will gesture, I also offered not to pursue a refund for the unused sessions of my current course, which represented nearly half my claim, if they settled in 30 days. The company agreed to that, but there was no payment made. I gave them another 7 days, but payment was only made after I categorically said that I would go to court the next morning, and even then, the money was transferred by the slowest means.
I now have half of what the company morally owe me, but I know of others who are stuck with the same problem.
As I said at the beginning, this gives me no pleasure, but excellent training (from a trainer who has now left) was completely marred by very poor business practice.
I have used best behaviour for their puppy training, 1:1 behaviour training and their dog school. All of these experiences have been positive, they are really knowledgeable, open and honest in their communication. Nothing is ever too much and they are always quick to help if they can. I had a very difficult situation with a rescue dog at one time and Meg’s support at that time was truly invaluable to me and went way over any ‘paid service’
The lovely Jen took our class in Pub Dog training. She made it fun and enjoyable for our dog and us, nice and easy to hear with the microphone too! We will definatley be booking more training in the New Year.
Best Behaviour dogs have been an amazing company.
Attended the puppy classes at Colchester with my 8 month old lab. Just seemed to be a quick succession of simple tasks shouted over a microphone with contradictory info from the other trainers wandering around. No real info on what to achieve by the next week. Didn't really enjoy it and don't think we (me and the dog) got much from it. When I booked it said they would plan for my requirements but nothing was offered. They left the comment below and I have tried their mobile a few times but no reply. Left voicemail but no reply. I have resigned myself to paying £180 for a ‘tailored course’ that was actually standing in a field with other confused owners doing routine basic training with my dog.

Love the outside training. Zoe is a fantastic trainer explains the reason for training and how to get the best from your dog with fun kindness and treats
I have enjoyed these classes more than previous ones as we are all involved at the same time rather than one at a time while the rest stand around.

Zoe at Best Behaviour Dog Training has to be the best person to take your beloved dog to. Not only does she champion kind teaching methods but she offers such a massive variety of training classes. Miss Frankie and I have tried general obedience, fun agility, flyball, trick training, scent training and hard surface tracking, all with fabulous success. It doesn't matter how well you think you have trained your dog, continuous, regular training of any kind is both enriching for your dog and also builds on your bond with your furry companion.
I would highly recommend Zoe at Best Behaviour Dog Training to anyone.
Got very little from the sessions I attended. When I suffered a family bereavement during the process of the course I asked to change my session time which was not permitted. This made it particularly difficult to attend every class that I had already paid up front for. Whilst I understand and appreciate the difficulties of running a viable business a small amount of compassion would have been appreciated.
I was also told verbally when inquiring about the classes that there would be a maximum of 12 dogs at each session, there were 13 or 14 dogs on two of the four sessions I attended.

I can thoroughly recommend Best Behaviour Dog Training (Zoe and her team). My lovely boy has done puppy and intermediate obedience classes and is now enjoying agility training all taught by Zoe. We've both really enjoyed and benefited from the force free reward based training that Zoe teaches.
Excellent training by Zoe. The dog's are able to be themselves whilst learning in a fun relaxed environment. My boy loves going and has learnt so much!
Our teenage daughter has been going to the Agility classes with Zoe for the last 12 months with our cockapoo. They have made fantastic progress and we would thoroughly recommend Zoe's classes.
I take my dog to agility classes and she loves it, such fun yet professional training. Such a great range of training classes to suit everyone.

I was having problems with my dog pulling on the lead and being very reactive for example lunging at traffic and barking at other dogs. Zoe gave me good advice and demonstrated techniques that I could use that worked for us . Thank you Zoe for all your help
