I came to Bwell Tiller Leisure Centre with my two daughters, aged three and one, specifically to use the soft play. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and upsetting.
When we arrived, the receptionist was speaking with another customer, so we waited for around five minutes. During this time, my three-year-old urgently needed to use the toilet after our journey to the centre. I told the receptionist that I was going to take my daughter to the bathroom, as she really needed to go. She appeared to ignore me, and as we started walking up the stairs, she shouted towards us in front of the other customer, “Where do you guys think you’re going?”
I explained that we were simply going to the bathroom. Rather than assisting us or showing any understanding, especially given that I had two very young children with me, she called her manager.
The manager, Luke, was equally unhelpful. Instead of listening to what had happened, he immediately accused me of swearing and shouting at his staff member. I explained that this was not the case — I had calmly told the receptionist that I needed to take my daughter to the toilet while she was engaged in a conversation with another customer.
I then asked whether we could still use the soft play, and Luke told me that he was refusing us entry.
I had travelled all the way there with a three-year-old and a one-year-old, only to be refused entry after what I feel was a completely unnecessary escalation of a very simple situation. The lack of understanding, customer service and basic consideration for two small children was extremely disappointing.
I would not recommend this leisure centre based on this experience. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and reviews how situations like this are handled in future.

Although Tiller Road had a refurbishment, it is still a terrible building in poor condition. There is limited gym equipment and it is in a poor state of repair. The floor in the studio was really dusty and there is not enough choice of classes. The building really needs to be knocked down and start again. It's unreasonable that the most densely populated area the Isle of Dogs has such a sub-standard council facility. We really need a proper place to play badminton.

+- Some of the machines are old, but most are in good condition
- Benches are old (need some maintenance)
- Missing some equipment (for example there are no 12 Kg dumbells)
- Hygiene can be better, e.g men's dressing room leakage should be fixed
I haven't used the pool so no comments on the pool.
