I trusted BigIron Auctions to handle…

I trusted BigIron Auctions to handle the sale of several major assets—excavators, trucks, machinery, and other equipment—and it turned into one of the most expensive mistakes I’ve made in years.

Across three separate auctions, every single one missed expectations—not just my expectations, but the ranges and outcomes BigIron themselves indicated were likely. Instead of getting competitive bidding and strong exposure, I ended up watching quality equipment sell for well below market value, costing me tens of thousands of dollars.

In hindsight, I chose the wrong auction house. BigIron simply doesn’t deliver the buyer traffic, the national reach, or the competitive bidding environment they claim. A more connected auction company with real visibility would have produced a completely different outcome. Instead, my assets were undersold, poorly showcased, and ultimately pushed through at numbers that don’t come close to fair market value.

If you’re thinking about listing high-value equipment with BigIron, my advice is simple: don’t. Do your homework and use an auction house with stronger national reach and real buyer engagement. I genuinely wish I had.

I won’t be using BigIron again—and I think sellers deserve to know what they’re walking into.

DISREPUTABLEt…

I signed up to buy a pc of equipment they had. I'm an OTR truck driver, so not home often. Their website said they took plastic. Won the bid, but when I went to pay, they would only accept a wire transfer. Called and spoke with 3 different people explaining it would be 2 weeks before I could get home and put cash in the account. I even offered to pay an extra 3% to cover the card fees. They refused, closed my account, sold it to the next highest bidder. They also say they're going to charge me the difference between his bid and mine, as well as a 25% cancellation fee. I told them good luck. My lawyer would have fun with that because I wasn't refusing to pay, THEY were refusing to accept my payment.

Fraud By Big Iron hiding tire damage

I just bought a $150,000 tractor on Big Iron. There were over 70 pictures. When the tractor arrived it had damage to the tire bars on each side from the quick hitch rubbing on the tires. Tires were almost new on the tractor so I expected them to be like new. There were 12-15 pictures of the tires. None of them of course showed any damage.

The Big Iron rep took the pictures and he purposely didn't get a close enough one to show the damage and nothing was mentioned in the description.

I took good pictures myself as soon as we unloaded the tractor and sent them in. On my pictures you could easily see the damage. Big Iron hid the damage on purpose.

I filed a complaint and they won't do anything because I didn't inspect it myself. It was 700 miles away so not practical to drive over. I relied on the Big Iron rep to be honest. He would have to be blind not the see the damage.

Plus not putting a note about the damage in the description is fraud by itself.

Buyer beware with this company. I have also sold products on Big Iron in the past so know the commission was 8-10% so I am not at all happy with getting like new tires with damage. I also know they insist on taking all the pictures.
