A long standing relationship with BIP.

My company has had a long standing relationship with BIP which has much contributed towards our business development over the years to become a major force in the construction industry as electrical, data and mechanical services installation contractors and design engineers. Over such a long period of time there have been many encounters with BIP personnel al of whom have been very supportive but the considerations, understanding and assistance provided by John-Joe has surpassed all that has gone before. I is such personal relationships that will always count.

BIP Solutions = Sharp Practice

BIP Solutions are the definition of Sharp Practice.

I have just settled with them as I received a court letter for nearly £4000.

They have an auto-renew clause in their contract that I personally feel should be pointed out by the sales rep. But that said, if I have signed something and not notice then that is my issue. However! Despite their insistence, I never received a renewal notice letter or an invoice to give me chance to cancel. The only time I knew of anything was when someone chased me for an outstanding invoice a few months past the renewal date. Which I challenged and heard nothing back despite me chasing for someone to call me.

I then received the court letter. BIP stated they sent me several emails and a letter. I never received anything. I only settled because I have too much on to deal with them in court and its cheaper to simply pay them off but for anyone who is currently considering them - their system isn't great and only does what you can do yourself for free, it just pulls public information together for you. In my opinion not worth the money and I believe that is why they screw people on the renewal. I don't think we actually logged into the system after the first few months of use.

Given the level of ill feeling and complaints on their reviews, it must be a good earner for them as they do not change their practice.

I wish I had taken the time to review the reviews before signing up with them.

It’s disappointing to read your review since it is not representative of our service or what the vast majority of our customers experience.

I’d like to address two points, in the interests of balance for anyone else reading this review and hopefully to provide some context for yourself.

First – auto-renewal is commonplace for services such as ours, and also in many other instances across business and consumer services. Auto renewal is clearly positioned at the point of sign up for the service and documented within our Ts and Cs. Anyone wishing to opt out of auto renewal can do so by sending an email to our support team at any point in advance of the subscription ending. Most of our customers choose to retain the auto renewal facility since it protects them from an unintended interruption to their service. Far from sharp practice, this about ensuring continuity for those who rely on our services to deliver opportunities.

Secondly, to address your points about renewal letters and invoices – I can confirm that these were sent to you. Your renewal letter was sent at least 28 days in advance of the auto-renewal date. You sent a request to cancel your subscription three weeks after the auto-renewal date, which unfortunately is not in line with the terms and conditions of the service that you signed up to (it’s not possible to access the service without accepting the Ts and Cs). While this is unfortunate, we cannot be responsible for a near seven week delay between receipt of the renewal letter and a cancellation being requested.

We log all discussions (and attempted interactions) with our customers, and in your case there were no fewer than seven attempts made to contact you (without reply) and a further four letters sent without response. Again, far from sharp practice I feel this demonstrates that we made every reasonable attempt to resolve the issue. Finally (and regrettably) we have had to resort to sending a legal letter which again had no response.

We have no desire to end up in legal proceedings with customers. It is an absolute last resort and could have been avoided had we received a response from you at any stage. However, like any other business, we have to protect the investment we make into our services, which is what the Ts and Cs are designed to do. It’s a really unfortunate situation and again, something that could be avoided had we received any response.

Finally, for anyone considering our service – please do not be put off by this or similar reviews. We are very clear about auto-renewal and it can easily be removed at any point in advance of the subscription renewing.

Useless Service, Deceptive Practices

We are an Engineering SME that have been with BiP for 2.5 years. Despite their lofty sales pitch, I would warn anybody reading this to avoid them at all costs.

Their standard terms are a 12 month annual commitment that AUTO-RENEWS. Even if you cancel 1 day after the auto-renewal (that they don't notify has happened), you are on the hook for the full remaining 12 month payments. Their terms are clearly designed to entrap customers. Their practices for auto-renewal are a clear breach of consumer protections but - and they’ll tell you this - as they are B2B the rules don’t apply, so shafting small companies is fair game.

BiP’s defence (that they reply to every critical review with) that auto-renewal is industry standard is useless too. Why not notify customers that auto-renewal is coming up? They could leave it to renew without action. It’s obvious why they’ve chosen this.

In our case, I attempted to cancel for a third time, after 2 subsequent failed attempts to cancel because their staff word things in a way to say you can only cancel at the renewal date, and was told no way - we owed the full balance and that was it.

Lots of adjectives to describe but I'll boil it down: They are peddling a product they know is sub-standard, so have decided to oversell it, then trap customers with ridiculous contract terms.

I wouldn’t even lend you a barge pole to not touch them with. Check out their google reviews too.

The overwhemingly positive feedback on Trustpilot demonstrates how satisfied our customers are with the service we provide. While no service can guarantee that its customers will win government tenders, we are highly confident that ours benefit hugely from the intelligence and insights we provide and are far more likely to succeed as a result. The fact that we have such strong renewal rates is further evidence of the value our customers gain from our services.

Auto renewal is common, accepted practice for online, subscription-based services - not just in this area but across many other B2B and B2C services too. Auto renewal avoids the risk of subscriptions lapsing in error; which could cause vital insights and opportunities to be missed.

Our terms concerning auto renewal are clear and must be accepted prior to a subscription starting. However, customers can easily elect to opt out of auto-renewal at any point after their subscription commences, although the majority decide to keep this in place for exactly the reasons described.

I am sorry to read such a negative review, but hope for anyone else reading that this response, and our other positive reviews, provide some context and balance.

Going that extra mile

Just renewed our contract for the next 3 years, always receive a great service and information from BIP but my account manager John-Joe is the reason we keep renewing. Helpful, professional and nothing is ever too much trouble. If I ever need any assistance John-Joe always goes that extra mile. People really do buy into people :-)

Only been working with BIP for 6 months…

Only been working with BIP for 6 months but the service has been exceptional from day 1. The information they have is becoming invaluable on a daily basis. My account manager John-Joe is making our experience a great one, nothing is too much - hope this relationship continues.

Not for us but great account manager

In the end, due to the nature of our business, this product didn't work for us. However, our account manager, John-Joe, went the extra mile for us at every point.

Its ok but a few things to be Careful about

These guys have an alright platform but the way they sell it has a bit to be desired. It's not suitable for everyone, but they will tell you it is.

We initially contacted BIP, very specifically, about private sector tenders. They sold the hell out of their platform, advising us we could find business from their platform as 98% of their other customers do ( or some other ridiculous number) . we tried it for a year, it wasn't suitable for our sector, it wasn't suitable for private tenders and during the end of the contract when I challenged them on this they just shrugged. To be honest I felt they said what they could to get us fixed in toa yearly contract then were not that bothered about us getting results. We had multiple sessions with them to "show us how" but these sessions never really caused the materialisation of any business. I was using it daily at one point. My indication was we wanted to get business in an easier manner in the private sector during COVID lockdown. I must have wasted weeks going through their data just to find the private sector data was rubbish. ( Out of date, tenders already filled, etc, etc) it was as rare as a gemstone for me to come across a tender that was live and simple to lodge an RFT for. I'm solely commenting on the f availability of private sector tenders here for our industry.

It very much frustrated me the way they acted when I challenged them on the above facts during the latter stages of the contract. They honestly didn't seem to care with one individual even telling me that their system isn't suitable for private sector contracts for our industry. He had no answer when I asked why they told me it was initially.

It's not an awful platform and I'm sure it works better for public sector tenders. But I highly advise you to do deep due diligence before you tie yourself into a contract. maybe ask for a test period to ensure it's right for you. also, from my experience, I wouldn't take what they say as gospel. Varify things yourself rather than being sold RE what you want to hear from these guys.

In addition to the initial onboading session, we held eight account management sessions over a ten month period to support your business and identify relevant opportunities, which I feel demonstrates strong commitment to ensuring your subscription would be beneficial. Given the nature of both public and private sector procurement, it can take time to find the right opportunity and build a pipeline to deliver contract wins; however, I believe our service offers the best route to do so. Avoid - Unethical Rolling Contracts

GO VERY CAREFUL! Read the bad reviews as they are true. Very good sales pitch and there it ends - If signing up, the first thing you should do is send a cancellation email to stop the contract rolling on beyond the end of the term - the pricing of which is not in your control. They have tried to charge me over £700 + vat to cancel a contract which they rolled on after the 12 month contract I signed - no notice - just a posted invoice to avoid advising me it was happening! Morally Wrong. I am very disturbed by the unethical contracts practice. AVOID.

We are absolutely clear about the terms of our subscription from the very outset and have no interest in misleading customers. The terms are explained during the sales process and in the terms and conditions that must be accepted by customers before access to the service can be granted. In common with many other subscription services - within the business and consumer environments - rolling (or auto renewal) subscriptions exist to ensure continuity of service. For services like ours, which provide dynamic business intelligence and contracts information, such continuity is essential to ensure vital opportunities are not missed because a customer has mistakenly allowed their subscription to lapse. The majority of our customers are happy to have auto renewal in place for exactly this reason. Those who prefer not to auto renew can remove this option at any point in their subscription term prior to the renewal date, as you’ve correctly pointed out. It is regrettable that we are in this situation and we hope that a positive outcome can still be reached.

Not recommended

We agreed on one-year subscription but still, they auto-renewed without communication and enforcing to pay the invoice.

Further, we don't find it a useful platform.

This is explained clearly as part of our sales and onboarding process, and is also clearly set out in our terms and conditions. Customers can cancel at anytime before their subscription renewal date by simply dropping us an email, or can opt out of auto-renewal as soon as they sign up. It's very transparent. In your case, the request to cancel came in a few days after your renewal date, so we were right to auto-renew to ensure you continued to have full access to the service. However, as a gesture of goodwill I understand that we have now cancelled your service and provided you with a full credit. We wish you well with finding opportunities through other means in future.
