Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 171 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Travelers frequently complained about excessively long queues, poor organization, chaotic management, and frustratingly slow processing times throughout security checks and passport control areas. Consumers also pointed out that the terminal facilities felt extremely cramped, dirty, unpleasant, and severely lacked adequate seating, working elevators, or accessible charging ports. Though some reviewers noted that getting through the airport on certain days was surprisingly straightforward and relatively quick compared to previous travel experiences. Furthermore, a few people mentioned that specific airport staff members were remarkably helpful and polite, while other individuals also appreciated the convenient parking options available nearby.

Atrocious treatment of humans

Visited 4 times this year, march and july and queues for security were ridiculous. Never experienced before in 50 years of flying. Twice I was so hot, sweaty, light headed, but couldn't leave queue to grab food or water or go to the loo. Once they must have thought my sweaty dishevelled shaky appearance was nerves so pulled me aside and emptied my bag in front of everyone, very humiliating and held up the queue even more!. I don't request assistance despite mobility issues but when I went to board, after over 4 hours, i could barely make it down the 8 sets of stairs...which there was no advance warning of!. I was close to crying. It's really put me off flying, something I used to enjoy. They obviously don't read these reviews as nothing is being done. Shocking treatment of human beings who they are making money from. We should be treated as customers not criminals. Staff indifferent & unable to answer questions. Disgusted.

Two Tier Security

Totally disorganised security section, where two Tier Security is evidently in place. Certain cultures and ethnicities are picked out and selected to form their own special quicker queue, whilst middle England watches on by. Also very aggressive and rude security staff, I don't think they actually understood where they were or what they were doing.

What a dump of an airport

What a dump of an airport! If Birmingham is supposedly the second biggest city in the UK, why on earth does it have such an embarrassment of an airport?! It always seems to be under construction. The ceilings are low, the lighting is poor, the AC in hot weather works at a bare minimum. Security is a nightmare, alarms going off constantly, machines beeping all the time, fed up and overworked staff and a long etcetera of poorly designed buildings and walkways. It’s just a mess, awful experience every time.

Britains Worst

Too small for the amount of footfall. Toilets were hideous with doors missing and locks broken. Queues for the inadequate security are unbelievable. People rate Manchester as worse but imo BHX takes the prize as Britains worst airport

Never park there (long term)!

Also, the worst airport in UK in terms of parking in airport. The cheapest rate to park (per day) is £32 which is crazy, brainless. There are too many other solutions to avoid parking in Birmingham airport! For example, I park for free about one mile away and I simply walk to airport.

Travelled through the airport on a connecting flight. The airport system that is in control of fast track is a scam. I paid for fast track and 3 months later the took £79 from me as a subscription. My bank luckily tagged it as a scam. Do not use their fast track, the subscription was called "trip sorted" do not use this

75 minutes to clear security

75 minutes to clear security. Reason? 50% of the security lanes not in use. I expect due to cost savings (staff wages). Profits over service, if this wasn't a monopoly would not survive. Need to either nationalise or to be held accountable.

Lost neck sack in men’s facilities in…

Lost neck sack in men’s facilities in arrivals landed in Birmingham 24 June at 4pm
Left my bag in the men’s room as it was so hot no aircon which had my heart medication init and various other things

It took them days to register the bag on to the system and they put they found it in the 25th June I emailed them on the 29th June and no body bothered to reply after calling several times they picked phone up today and said I have to pay £28 to come pick my bag up
What a bunch of thieving gits these lot are asking for money to pickup my meds.
Luggage point said they have had to hire a room and have to pay for heat electric and aircon and a body to man it hence the charge.

Of the many Airports visited over the…

Of the many Airports visited over the Years, in Europe and Asia, this is surely the Worst, and each Year I visit it gets worse. The main focus seems to be on Car Parking Revenue, with Airport activities a secondary concern. Despite years on poorly designed and planned Building Works the shambles continues. 30 minute waits to deplane due to poorly coordinated Transportation descending rickety stairs, chaotic Security arrangements despite paying for but not receiving ' Express Service ', Garbage being trundled through the Departure Lounges, making more noise than a Steam Engine. The Staff are clearly demotivated, poorly trained and disinterested
, and treat Passengers as a nuisance. The only good thing about the place is leaving. The overall impression is that the so called 'Management' are either totally disinterested, or incompetent, and never get out of their Offices to witness the Chaos they preside over. Or is it a case that this is now what is recognised as acceptable, in the UK ?

The worst airport security service in…

The worst airport security service in the UK. We travelled with a 2 year old that was basically mauled through the process. We complained and they tried to justify the agents handling of a very stressed little girl. After 3 emails I gave up and vowed never to travel through that airport again!

Security queue was 2 hours long

Security queue was 2 hours long. This is an absolute joke. Once we finally got the front of it, they pulled every single one of our bags and pulled things out like colouring books to swab them which meant that despite leaving 2.5 hours just to get through security and to the gate, we almost missed our plane. A total disgrace.

Couldn’t be worse run if they tried

Couldn’t be worse run if they tried. Whereas Jet2 staff make check-in a friendly breeze, the experience from there on was a public embarrassment. Area A was undergoing refurbishment last year, and there was no visible difference this. Long slow-moving queues to one, yes one x-ray machine, as staff were using the other. The refit is still visible in duty free but here also there was no evidence of any work being done.
The shopping and restaurant area is far too small for the volume of passengers, leaving a very significant number to stand or mill around.
And it’s the first time I’ve seen men queuing to use the small number of toilets since a festival. And throw in even single door being broken and it capped off a great day for some!
Wouldn’t choose to use it again if I didn’t have to.

I'd give zero if possible for Birmingham Airport security. The most awful ignorant young man in security I have ever experienced.
I touched the tray to move it,only to be told ..." I pull, you do not push ".
Then I was asked to remove a medical soft splint from my hand due to an injury,it had no metal inside it!...I told him I didn't have to remove it on way over from Ireland...his response "This is here, not there "...Absolutely terrible customer service....I will go from other airports in future.

Worst airport I've ever been to

Worst airport I've ever been to. Parking is difficult to navigate and even harder to find a spot. The queueing system for security (accessed by lifts you have to wait for) is erratic, illogical and very, very time consuming. Expect an hour standing in line. And this morning a non-stop alarm, very loud, with no explanation and no effort to switch it off. At time of writing, it's been going for 40 minutes, continuously. I must have permanent tinnitus by now. Dreadful, dreadful airport. Knock it down and start again

Apalling

Queues for security at 05.45 were ridiculous. Very hot and uncomfortable with no AC. One passenger was on the verge of collapse queuing for so long in this heat. Disgraceful.

The worst airport in the UK

The worst airport in the UK! No air conditioning. Every time I travel via here the queues are horrendous. The check in desks take ages for just one person. Very unhelpful staff. Takes an age to get through security. Avoid this place. I will be travelling from elsewhere in the future despite the fact I live near Brum. Disappointing!!!!
