Custom ‘Made to Measure’ Loom for Lefty 339 🎸

Purchased a custom ‘made to measure’ loom for a left handed Gibson 339. The loom looks great! Nice and tidy, well constructed with high quality parts and very a highly thought out design!
Customer service was great as well, David was very patient with me to explain the correct installation which was very much appreciated. I can certainly highly recommend and would certainly use again.

Thank you again David 🙏

Brilliant Pickups & Service

Bought 3 sets of pickups from here over the last couple of years & they all sound fantastic. Genuinely miles better than any of the big name pickup manufacturers I've used & all have that personal touch. Great comms & will wind anything to your spec. I suspect any 1 star reviews are awkward customers as David seemed nothing but helpfull on every communication with him.

Purchased a set of Mustang pickups from…

Purchased a set of Mustang pickups from David. Despatched very quickly and packaged really well. They sound amazing , all the best quality of vintage Mustang pickups but without the downsides. I have a couple of other offset builds and will definitely be using Bloodstone again when I come to do the electrics on them.

Fantastic sounding pickups.

My first contact with Bloodstone Guitar Works was to have a rewind on an old Fender Jazz Bass pickup. The work David provided was so good that I then ordered some pickups, all of which sound fantastic.

1 - a set of strat pickups with alnico 5 magnets on the lower three strings, and alnico 3 magnets on the three higher strings. This combination provides a tight, snappy low end, and a smooth, glassy top end - lovely!!
2 - Split P-Bass pickup - fitted to my custom built Paisley P-Bass. It sounds great - open and throaty.
3 - hum-cancelling 50s style single P-Bass pickup - once again sounding fantastic - retains the single coil style clank, without any electrical interference buzz.

I'm so pleased with all of the pickups I've used, that I have now ordered three more pickups for more of my guitars - a couple of Nocaster flat pole bridge pickups, and a vintage PAF spec humbucker with a nickel cover.

Dog eared P90

I wanted a new dog eared P90 for my Les Paul Jr. I contacted David at Bloodstone and he replied immediately, listened to what I wanted and advised which to go for. He he pick up was delivered quickly. I just installed it and it’s fantastic. Has plenty of drive and bite but cleans up really well to. I asked for a pick up that could ‘do it all’ David provided!

Edit:
I bought a luthier built guitar, loaded with new pickups from you.
Are you saying the 3rd party aspect means you don't support the final buyer?

Yes the specs are on the website, but as explained in my 2nd email, they don't either match the marking on the pickup (presumably from you), or what I measured.

You "really didn't know...."?
Maybe a reply with an attempt of explanation wasn't too much asking?

==> 1 star actually more appropriate

You requested detailed information on pickups bought from 3rd party seller. All the information we had was sent in the first reply and the generic specs are on our website.

Sorry but we really didn’t know how to help any further as your Luthier held the printouts

Exceptional products and customer service

The work here is incredible, I have ordered 2 wiring harnesses. One a simple 3 way toggle 1V/1T with a push-pull tone. Being my first soldering job David kindly labelled where I should solder everything and answered any questions that I had. The second was a Jazzmaster lead harness and a set of Jazzmaster pickups. David once again came through, helping me customise the pickups to my liking by providing solid advice and support. The pickups transformed my JM! Exceptional customer service I'd recommend him to anyone looking to upgrade or modify their guitar.

Great sound, prices and service

I ordered a set of P90 pickups from Bloodstone and the customer service, price and quality was so good that I returned for a set o strat pickups recently.

I asked for custom made variations on both occasions and David offered helpful advice borne of his obvious experience. His suggestions in emails were always backed up with clear explanations which proved to be correct.
He made a one off set of strat pickups based loosely on the specs of a really nice set I had played on a friend’s guitar. (Expensive boutique pickups). I described the type of sound I had hoped for and was really pleased with what David came up with. They have character.

David is willing to work with you on any crazy idea. I asked for an unusual spec in that the bridge and neck pickups have Alnico 2 polepieces for the unwound strings and Alnico 5 for the wound strings. I love this mix because the A2 seems to tame the shrill top end on the unwound strings and imparts a slightly softer, velvety smooth character that really sings with overdrive. The A5 keeps the stratty hard edge for the wound strings.
David also gave me level/unstaggered polepieces which I have found may help with note seperation under overdrive.
I also asked for a baseplate under the bridge pickup to add girth to the sound. This isn’t something David does often so he had to order the parts in specially. The attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile was really welcome - David even threw in extra pickup covers in a different colour free of charge.

Bloodstone also made a wiring loom with the best instructions on earth! This included a tone pot which selects your choice of capacitors and describes each cap value’s effect on the sound so you can make an informed choice. It’s very reasonably priced - as are the pickups and wiring loom.
This all happened within a week and was delivered lightening fast. I’ve fitted the pickups and they are fantastic. They have character and are so much better than many at twice the price. I look forward to gigging them - and I know from experience in rehearsals that they will deliver. Worth trying.

Absolutely stellar

Absolutely stellar. Wanted a PAF style bridge pickup to replace a JB in my Les Paul that just wasn't working for me. Big fan of P90s so I asked David what he'd recommend as a humbucker with that kind of signature and clarity and he gave me multiple options and explained the benefits of each. Really great service, shipped super speedily and the pickup was exactly the sound I was looking for.

Took a guitar that was already my favourite in terms of playability and now it's my favourite in sound as well. Just sent for a matching neck pickup from him too, totally recommended

Custom scatterwound pickups done right!

I came to David with a set of requirements for my Fender Stratocaster: some exotic switching options, and the need to fatten up the in-between sounds. We discussed windings, wire gauges, other pickups, pots, coil tapping, magnets, bobbin sizes, pole spacing… it took us a month and numerous email exchanges to design the electronics. It all arrived well packed and cleanly presented by (free) 1st class post. David’s soldering and wiring work was perfect, and the instructions were clear. When I plugged the guitar and started playing, I simply couldn’t believe my ears. The exact sound in my head, realised. All the switching options work as expected, and for the first time in my life I have pots that respond in their whole range.

David, you’ll soon be receiving an email about a certain Les Paul needing nickel covered PAFs. I promise you my requirements won’t be as exotic this time!

Great service and a good product at a great price!

Great service. I wasn't sure which version of their dogear P-90 pickup I needed for my guitar and Dave responded quickly to my enquiry with advice. I ordered and the pickup arrived promptly. Once installed on the guitar it worked exactly as expected. Everyone who has heard it was very impressed. I would strongly recommend purchasing from Bloodstone Guitarworks over the pricier American brands, especially if you're not certain exactly what variant of a pickup will suit your guitar. I would certainly do business with them again.

Excellent service! Lovely sounding P90 pickups.

I bought from the store on the website as it's cheaper than via eBay.

I initially messaged David (Bloodstone Guitarworks) to see if he had the options available for a P90 pickup set, and he promptly replied back that he did.

I put in my order, then a few weekdays later I received my P90 Classic '57 set.

On to the pickups. No problems with the install, screws and tubes were provided. The pickups use braided wires, so sheath is ground and inner wire it hot - no problems soldering and that either.

The pickups sound great. Definitely has the P90 sound, I was looking for the clear, bright Alcino 5 sound and it does deliver. It sounds way better than my stock Fender Mustang P90s, and best of all there is no hum in the middle position, as the neck is RWRP.

Excellent service! Lovely sounding P90 pickups.

Brilliant experience

Brilliant experience, top product, great service. I ordered a set of telecaster pickups over a bank holiday weekend. Sent a message to ask for a customisation to my order (mix of magnets across the 2 pickups). The order arrived Weds morning - 1 working day total to produce and deliver a custom order. Stunning service. The pickups themselves are also top notch - easily the equal of e.g. Fender custom shop, Seymour Duncan, Ed Roman, Bareknuckle, Lollar pickups I’ve used before - and at a very competitive price point. Could not recommend enough.

Great expeience

I recently bought a Squire Duo-Sonic that was physically extraordinarily good but electrically weak. I contacted David and received an immediate response. After discussions I posted my scratchplate to David and it was returned a couple of days later with new pots, wiring and a pair of his excellent hand made pickups.
David’s work is excellent, way above China, Mexico and Korea.
The pickups are exactly what you would hope for on a Duo Sonic, soft and melodic but when pushed have plenty of bite. Superb, I could easily have paid 3 times as much for less and would have needed to assemble it all myself.
This is the second time I’ve dealt with David and Bloodstone guitars.
I would strongly recommend the products and workmanship.
David’s communications and client understanding is excellent.

Avoid avoid avoid

Bought 3 wiring looms now. Telecaster one a disaster. Just couldn't get the thing to work. So (at my expense) I sent the guitar to David. It came back with a hefty body chip, but working. A month later, 2 of the 5 positions just stopped working completely. David said the pickup had gone "open source" and stopped replying to emails. A blinking expensive, time intensive, dreadful experience and a ruined Fender Telecaster which will presumably need new pickups and rewiring. As a chaser, the Strat wiring has completely removed any traces of authentic Strat sound from my guitar. Now just sounds like a generic Kays guitar.

Very dissappointed with this unfair feedback - I did not stop replying even after 15+ detailed support emails.

My final conclusion via email was an "open coil" [not source] on 3rd party bridge pickup which had no resistance reading. I offered to repair/rewind FOC if seller sent to me and only covered post costs as it was not one of our pickups

Initially, buyers pickups/guitar had unusual after-market earth mod incompatible with phase reversing loom supplied. This was shipped to me and I fitted the loom and cured the issue FOC

This is the first time I've heard of a body chip (? shipping/transit damage or any issues with the Strat loom
