Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 75 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently complained that customer service was completely unhelpful, leaving many consumers stranded without proper assistance when facing extremely urgent technical problems. Buyers also struggled with confusing subscription terms that rendered fully functional machines useless, alongside frequent paper jams and frustrating connectivity failures. Though several users encountered severe operational hurdles, some reviewers were happy with the fast setup process, quiet operation, and crisp print quality right out of the box. A few people also mentioned receiving genuinely helpful assistance from individual support agents when successfully troubleshooting minor glitches or arranging replacement parts.

Cashback offer

There is no ability to claim the cashback online and after multiple emails, I am giving up and returning the printer to Currys. Do not purchase a product from Brother based on cashback, if you're still within the returns window - do so, dont let Brother string you along!

I would give zero stars if possible

I would give zero stars if possible. I bought an EcoPro printer second hand I wanted to now register it to my own Brother account. It should be simple for the seller to disconnect the printer from his account? Not at all. It has to go through IT. That took DAYS. Even when it was done, I wasn’t informed. I just tried again to register and it worked. Now, I need to sign up for EcoPro. Signed up. Supplies shipped (yeah, right!). Subscription mysteriously cancelled. Nobody knows why. Re-enrolled. Supplies shipped since last week and still no tracking. Contacting brother by phone, chat and email yields the same result. Your problem has been escalated. You will hear from us within 24/48 hours. We have passed your issue on. You should hear back within 24/48 hours. How long am I supposed to go without printing???? I have already sold my other printer to make way for this trash and I have been almost two weeks unable to print. Absolutely ridiculous. I would rather take this printer to the tip rather than sell it to subject another human to the this nonsense roundabout of escalations and enquiries. A total total waste of my time I am surprised these people are still in business. Very horrible experience, one of the worst. I see no resolution, nobody can tell me why the supplies haven’t been shipped. Sometimes they can’t even find my account!!!!!!!!

Brother Unable to Fault Find a Basic Fault on a PTE560BTVPQL1

Brother Unable to Fault Find a Basic Fault on a PTE560BTVPQL1

I bought this machine a month ago on 02JAN26 which had to be sent back to Brother on or about 20JAN26. Due to a charging fault, plugged into a power source you can see the three bars flashing until it is fully charged then the flashing stops and three bars are stationary indicating it is fully charged. The machine is defective as it is NOT showing the correct state of charge there is in the machine. Brother were contacted and eventually I received a replacement battery. This was correct as the battery perhaps could not hold a charge and the machine was indicating a lower charge.
Brother did the right thing initially by sending me a replacement battery so charging was completed and once again showing three bars. What’s wrong with that you say. Well, now unplug the power lead to the machine then the three bars are NOT showing at all now but only one bar is there. It should be “THREE BARS” so you get an indication of how much charge is left in the machine when you use it in the field. You will NOT get any indication with one bar at all. Brother there is a fault on the main board which no one at Brother’s 2nd line could even identify at all.
I told at least two technicians of the problem but no one took any notice at all. I requested on at least two occasions for someone to ring me but no they could not be bothered. They have sent back a defective machine to me which a lazy driver from DPD dumped in a shop that I could not get to instead of returning it to the depot where I would have told them to deliver on another day which I normally do.
I recommend this machine as once Brother get me a replacement machine, then I might be able to do the work I intended to do at the beginning of January. I have wasted a month of NO WORK thanks to Brother. Then they ask me to Review a DEFECTIVE MACHINE very unhappy.

Replace my machine, DPD will eventually return the defective one to Brother and then you can apologise for the abysmal service.
02JAN26 11.03 Just had a delivery from DPD with the Brother return. The first thing i did was to power it on. Instead of only ONE bar there is NOW THREE BARS as there should have been in the first place! Brother have actually fixed the fault and not said anything or all the bouncing around with the carrier in the first place dislodged the problen. We will never know because Brother could not be bothered to communicate at all. After seeing a sea of RED I am so suprised that Brother causes so many problems for others.

The biggest SCAM with this subscription!!! I paid almost £400 for a subscription, and when I had 75% cartridges left, I stopped it, and they blocked my cartridges. Never get a subscription!!! You will overpay 100%

Avoid EcoPro printer subscriptions…

I bought my Brother printer in November 2024 right before our busiest time at Christmas. I choose Brother because their printers had always been reliable in my experience. As it was an Ecopro printer I decided to give their 4 month free trial a go as it says 'cancel any time'. A year later and work started to get busy again so I increased our print allowance. But we were busier than expected so I tried to increase the print allowance and upgrade again as we were being charged overages but because I had already upgraded once that month they said I couldn't do it again and had to pay 69p per 10 pages. After the customer service team who, by the way, took a day or more to respond to my messages said there was nothing I could do, I decided to cancel the subscription. Luckily I did this in January when we are less busy. No where does it warn you that cancelling immediately renders your cartridge, which was half full, completely useless. I replaced it with the original cartridge hoping it would still work as it was basically new when I put the subscription cartridge in, but no the message says 'Replace Cartridge'. So, even though Brother says my original cartridge should still work I'm nervous to buy a replacement incase that doesn't either and more money wasted. Now I have a printer which is useless until I buy another cartridge or buy a new printer. Thanks Brother. Had I known this would happen I would never have signed up to your EcoPro subscription in the first place which is anything but Eco-minded.

Ink cartridge rip off

Like many other people, I will never buy a Brother printer again. However, I'm sure that they are not the slightest bit interested in any of these complaints and they will never change anything. I want to print a black and white document and have a full black cartridge but it won't allow me to print because it says it cannot detect the volume of yellow ink! Bad enough, but the yellow cartridge has plenty of ink in it. They just want you to keep spending money on colour cartridges even though you only want to use black and white.

Never had so many issues with a printer…

Never had so many issues with a printer before!
Normally a HP user but tried brother as required a bigger/quicker printer that could do more. It is constantly spitting ink out all over my invoices, done the usual checks and cleaned up the printer inside but no better. Never prints the colour properly, I'm glad I email my invoices other wise it would look a mess and very unprofessional. It also prints blurry so you can't read the words that have been printed on the paper. Will be changing brands as soon as my ink is used. I will NEVER purchase another Brother Printer again.

Brother.co.uk false advertising?

I've had brother printers for years so naturally looked to Brother again when my printer died after 10 years use, as such I ordered a MFC-J6940DW from Printerland which arrived the next day.

Having been made redundant a few weeks before and needing a printer to aid my job search, I
went for that particular model because Brother was running a promotion where you got a Lifetime warranty and £100 cashback when you registered the printer with Brother.
That meant I was able to get the printer that would be most use to me rather than settling for a cheaper model that wouldn't do everything I needed.

After several attempts to register on the website to no avail, I contacted Brother who said the advertised code for the offer was wrong, and gave me a new code which worked.

However, that was a few months ago and I still haven't received the cashback.

On reflection it appears the 'error in the promotion code' was a deliberate ploy to stop people claiming the offer, as clearly Brother had no intention of paying the cashback!

Great service - support for ancient printer

I have an ancient printer that I paid less than £50 for nearly 20 years ago. On buying a new laptop there was no windows 11 driver. I used to use it heavily when studying, less so now.
Claudia, on the chat help service, was great, sorted the driver problem and helped with a paper jam glitch I've had for a couple of years and not bothered to find a permanent fix for, until now.
Brilliant service.

They fixed it in the end, but only after a lot of chasing.

I was wrongly charged for a subscription that was supposed to be free as part of a promotion. It took a very long time for Brother to respond to my emails, and the refund process was extremely slow.
When I was finally refunded, the VAT was missing, which meant I had to chase them again. Although the VAT was eventually refunded too, the whole process was frustrating, time-consuming, and something I shouldn’t have had to deal with in the first place.
Everything has now been resolved, but I’m sharing this so others are aware and can be careful. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend them.

Poor poor poor customer service

Poor poor poor customer service. Their website kept glitching whenever I would try to downgrade or cancel my plan and I had to contact them directly. Then they charged me wrongfully for a further two months and each time I had to email for a refund as they confirmed cancellation. I paid £30 a month for 6 months for one set of cartridges - basically how much it costs to buy one set. Today I tried to print and it said I can't use the remainder of my ink, despite the fact that they can see i did not just pay one month and then cancel to get cheaper ink, they can see i've literally paid the full price of the ink and that it is still full. When I called and asked if I could just rebuy a subscription and it unlock the ink they said "no, you would have to buy a subscription and then wait for new ink". It's not very sustainable of them and it's very greenwashing for them to claim it's the sustainable way yet not even let you use the same product, what a waste of product. They also didn't mention in the email that the ink would be blocked after cancelling the subscription.

Worst customer service ever

Won't use hard words just write the sad truth.
bought one of there laser printers for £400 after 11 months the fuser burnt due to a jammed paper, was still in warranty - they came over to inspect and said we used 3rd party toners so warranty is void
nevertheless we only used the original toner - they don't care - they decided with no proof that we used 3rd party toner and simply left me with a loss of £400 this has been the worst piece of customer service i have ever witnessed, never buy brother.

Very poor customer service and unreliable machines. I bought a brother laser printer and paper comes out all wrinkled when priting and keeps jamming. I will.never buy their products again. Samsung printers are more reliable. Customer service would not replace the drum unit but expected me to pay over 100 for it when the printer only cost £70

Brother eco pro subscription is a con

Brother eco pro subscription is a con! I thought I would save money but it cost me far more and when I cancelled my subscription they froze me using the reminder of the cartridge so I had to buy another one. I thought my usage would carry over each month but boy was I wrong. Please don’t subscribe - it’s cheaper to buy the cartridges on Amazon. At least you get the full yield.
