AVOID AT ALL COSTS

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I purchased a 69 reg Hyundai Tucson from Car Plus Motors in Newport, Wales, in August 2025, and I have had issue after issue with it since I purchased it including a reoccurring engine light (this is the 4th time this has appeared now, meaning I've hardly been able to drive it since I purchased it), issues with the wheels (including a friction noise which is still there) and the clutch (causing juddering when I move from stationery to moving). I have requested the car be taken back, as I believe it to be faulty, and a refund issued on a number of occasions, but Darren from Car Plus Motors repeatedly refuses to do this. The car is now in a local garage having the clutch replaced so it is safe to drive, despite Darren saying the issues I was having were down to general wear and tear and would not be covered under my warranty(!). I need my car for work travel, so having a reliable car is essential. Having a faulty car which the dealer will not take back is causing me a lot of stress and money (Car Plus Motors have NOT refunded the last 2 garage visit costs and I have had to keep my old car as a result of the issues with the Tucson), at a time when I am having family and health issues. He also said I was "threatening" him when I said I'd write a bad review (I have this on email). He tried (and succeeded) in getting my review on Autotrader removed twice. It was only reinstated when I sent Autotrader all our correspondence proving my complaint was accurate (I have the email correspondence with them too). His Autotrader reviews are ALL 4 and 5 stars. There are no 2 or 3 star reviews and only my 1 star review, suggesting he's very good at getting bad reviews removed. I don't trust a word that man says now. I will never purchase anything from Car Plus Motors again, and I strongly recommend everyone to avoid them at all costs.

Hi Clare,

Thank you for your feedback we appreciate all forms good and bad.

You purchased the Hyundai and drove home for 2 hours with no issues. After 3 days you advised there was an issue with road noise coming from the wheel and a tyre light came on. We advised you to take it to your local garage to get it checked .

You took it to your garage who checked the car, the only faults they found were a nail in the tyre and slow air release . A nail in a tyre can happen at and time but we paid for this to be fixed for you.

5 weeks from purchase you messaged to say an alarm went off on your car with the engine light coming on .

You took it to your garage and you sent over a report to say it was a temperature sensor, you called 4 days later to explain that your garage cleaned the temperature sensor but the light had come back on. We then asked for the car to be brought back to us so we could look at any faults that you were having as you were having no luck with your garage.

6 days later you sent an estimate over saying the car needed a new clutch . I was very surprised by this as this wouldn’t bring an engine light on and in your previous correspondence’s you hadn’t mentioned anything about the clutch .

You took the car to a second garage when we’d already asked for the car to be brought back to us to look at any issues your are having.

When we sell a car we do explain to customers and get them to sign to understand that the warranty company won’t cover a diagnostics charge , there is an excess per claim and there is no breakdown cover with the car which you were fully aware of. This is in the terms and conditions.

When you took the car into the garage with the engine light on they told you not to drive the car and we have told you this as well as if there is a fault it could make the issues work

Since this you have still been driving the car around (which we have evidence of).

We have offered you money towards a hire car, or money towards insurance on another car. We offered to pay the estimate you acquired to get the car returned to us, so we can look at any issues, and when the car has been checked, get it independently inspected by our local Hyundai main dealer for your peace of mind.

If your garage could have given you a price to fix the issue we would have looked at that option but now feel is best for the car to come back to us .

You spoke with Trading Standards as you were not happy with our response.

We have now spoken with Trading Standards in Newport, who have confirmed we are entitled to have the vehicle back to be investigated and repairs any faults we find (which we have been willing to do all along).

As per my many messages and email’s, we have asked for the car to be brought back to site on multiple occasions, which as a dealer we are entitled to so we can help address any issues you have.

We work to a very high standard which you can see from our 500 plus 5star reviews on Autotader from customers, and customers satisfaction is very important to us.

If anyone wishes to know the truth , feel free to to contact the site, we are happy to share all the emails/conversations (without breaking GDPR laws) to show how we are trying to help the customer, we have nothing to hide.

We have contacted you again this week to arrange to have the car brought back to site so we can look into any issues that you have.

Regards

Darren
