Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 238 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently encountered issues with the service and staff, describing them as unhelpful, unfriendly, and lacking proper training, especially in customer support interactions. Many people reported significant problems with the booking process, including unexpected fees, difficulties with cancellations or refunds, and involuntary flight changes or downgrades. Reviewers also felt that the pricing was not justified given the poor quality of service and limited comfort, often comparing it unfavorably to other airlines. However, some customers also noted positive aspects of their experience. A few people were satisfied with the attentive and friendly staff on board, and some reviewers found the meals to be good. These positive experiences were often highlighted by those who felt they received excellent service.

Excellent Service and Great Flight Options

Cathay Pacific offers a fantastic range of international flights, and I found their website easy to use when searching for tickets. The cabin was clean, the food was surprisingly good, and everything ran on time. It’s a reliable airline that I’d happily choose again for future travel.

Booked a ticket from Cebu- Dubai during war

Booked a ticket from Cebu Philippines - Dubai but due to war the airline cancelled their operations and now more than 1 month since we didn't receive the refund.
We booked thru the travel agent and the travel agent informed us and even share email correspondence with the airline but Cathay Pacific is not responding. I can't believe that they are abandoning their passengers in times like this. We are so disappointed and helpless regarding this matter! I sent already several email and called the airline directly myself but they are not helping at all!

Watch out for up charges and…

Watch out for up charges and bureaucratic BS ! When checking in I learned my ticket only used a middle initial, while my passport had my full name spelled out. Cathay does let you check in and suggests to correct the name by calling customer service--like its no big deal. But after getting to a live person, I was told the correction incurred a fee of $60? Why? Because it was booked through a third party (in this case Expedia) and they had to 'take over' the booking. I was told contact Expedia, they can change for free. Well no, after 25 min with Expedia, they said once you check in Expedia is helpless. I called Cathay back, and was forced to cancel my check in (and risk losing the seat assignments already paid for!) so they can re-book. After agreeing to the theft of $60 to add 5 letters to the booking, they sent an email with payment info. Paid, then 10 min waiting online agent told me there is technical difficulty and they will call back because the agent can't confirm receipt--even though I had an email confirming they got my money. When 3 hours passed I was forced to call a third time to be told yes it shows on the computer but--you are not checked in!
Maybe it is because I flew Economy, but I am a Cathay member so, fyi--that probably makes no difference to how you are treated.

Freezing cold cabin

Overall a great experience, however, it was freezing in the cabin with cold air con blowing the whole 10 hour flight. The blankets were thin and made for a very uncomfortable journey. I’m not looking forward to my return trip as I will need to carry extra layers just to stay warm. Apart from that cabin crew and meals were really good.

Most uncomfortable seating ever

Most uncomfortable seating ever. Food is horrible and staff is rude. Theres no chance they are legitimately rated in the top 5 airlines. I would rather pay double than fly with them again.

The Flight Attendants didn't make passenger put seat in upright position during meal times....

The aircraft aren't as new as some airlines, but they are well maintained. The cost was about 20% dearer than the competitors, but for us it was worth it, because you don't have to travel via a Middle Eastern airport. Also, flight times were very close and no major delays. The food was as good as other airlines - certainly no worse - and we quite enjoyed the Asian food that they served. The flight attendants are young and very polite. OUR ONLY COMPLAINT IS that they didn't make passengers put their seats forward at meal times. Lots of passengers were struggling to eat in the small space, because the passenger in front had their seat fully reclined. This is tolerable at sleep times, but not at food and drink times. I had to ask the FA to ask the passengers in front if they could put their seat into the upright position, because we were actually struggling to eat. They did do, which was great, but I noticed the FA's didn't tell others who were suffering similarly. The FA's should know to do this, and I'm wondering if it's because the FA's were generally younger people......

Atrocious customer service!

Customer service is atrocious, they make it intentionally difficult to make simple changes to your information (such as updating an email or phone number) or delete an account. They made me jump through more hoops than my bank or even the Canadian government. Clearly this is not about security, it's about keeping your information in their system where they can profit from it. It honestly feels malicious. Pathetic service that has completely turned me off of what is really an excellent airline in terms of the in-flight experience. Guess I'll stick to EVA who've never given me any trouble.

Website and seat selection

Haven't yet flown with them and they've worn my last nerve. Booked through BA on a flight operated by them. Have tried to select seats in advance, and was willing to pay extra. I contacted them through chat and phone call and was given conflicting information, sometimes during the same conversation. It seems that the system says no. I had a similar request for a BA flight operated by Qantas which went smoothly. Why can't Cathay do the same? Oh, and it's hit or miss if their website can find your booking. If you get stressed about flying or bureaucracy in general, avoid this company. Wish me luck in getting home with them!

A Frustrating Travel Experience from Start to Finish

My flight to Vietnam was on January 31, 2026. The day before, I checked my itinerary and saw that my flight from Columbus to Dallas had been canceled—with no notification at all. No email, no call, no text. I was honestly pretty panicked.

I ended up spending about four hours on the phone with Cathay trying to find another flight. I had originally booked premium economy so I could pick my seats, but after they rebooked me, I couldn’t choose seats at all. The customer service team really couldn’t do much to help.

I submitted a case later and was told I’d get an upgraded seat on my return flight. But when I checked in at the airport, the Cathay desk said there was nothing in the system.

On top of that, when I arrived in Hanoi, one of my suitcases was damaged. Their process requires you to call to report it, but I couldn’t make international calls while I was there. When I got back to the U.S., I submitted a claim, but they said they couldn’t do anything because it wasn’t reported within 7 days—even though I was overseas and couldn’t contact them.

Overall, this was my first time flying with Cathay, and it will definitely be my last. The customer service was really disappointing. The plane felt smaller compared to other international airlines, and while the onboard service was okay, it didn’t come close to other Asian airlines I’ve flown.

🚨 Scam alert 🚨

🚨 Scam alert 🚨

I paid $50+ for an “extra legroom window seat”… and there was NO window.

Instead of fixing it properly, they moved me to a worse seat with no extra legroom and no recline. Total downgrade from what I paid for.

It did not stop there. They tried to charge me for my backpack separately from my carry-on, then forced me to check it, then suddenly changed their mind and let me keep it. Completely frustrating.

Easily one of the worst airline experiences I have had. I will avoid them in the future.

Very confused.

I just had my first Economy flight experience on Cathay, HK to LHR, the seats were comfy enough as were the IFE systems. The plane was slightly run down and probably, well definitely needs some refurbishment. The lavatories had some bits of tape to hold some bits together on the wall.
What I found really strange was around 7 hours into the flight I asked for a cup noodle but was told there was none available but was offered an egg tart. I agreed and enjoyed it, but about 2 hours later a family of four sat beside me were provided four cup noodles and four egg tarts. I was very confused why I was told there was no noodles but the people sat next to me were provided them. To follow on another review, I asked for a bottle of water but was told only cups of water were provided, so once again I agreed. A while later a bottle of water was provided to a passenger a couple of seats ahead.
So I just wanted clarification from Cathay if I had to learn Chinese, which I wouldn't mind doing or be of a certain ethnic group, which unfortunately I can't change.
Would I fly Cathay again, only if I don't have an option.

Flew and paid for Business

Flew and paid for Business; but thought I was in Economy. Seats now a 2-3-2 seating on Business. If people knew this, they’d avoid this airline. It’s a second tier airline now….

We will never fly with them again

My wife and I flew Business Class with Cathay Pacific in February from Sydney to Heathrow via Hong Kong. Our experience was absolutely awful. Our seats which we had selected months before our flights were deemed to be faulty on the day, for both flights!! My wife and I were being split up and put in different sections of business class. Cathay Pacific thought this was ok. We would never fly with them again. Their service and support was disgraceful and the worst we have ever experienced on any long haul flight. I would recommend you choose another airline as the stress and upset we experienced was not recognised by the airline.

My new favorite airline

This was by far my best airline experience of the last 10 years. I strongly disagree with the score but then again most people only write a review when they have a complaint. The service on board was sublime. You could get snacks whenever you wanted. The meals were fine and the on board entertainment had such a huge library. (Props for the big selection of A24 movies). The planes were quite new and clean and the overall price I paid was very decent (590 round including luggage from Brussels to Cebu in the Philippines)

Worst Experience Ever

Worst Experience Ever! I would not recommend that anyone use their services. My mother has never travelled internationally & we have not seen each other in 4 years. I booked her a Domestic flight to Johannesburg (OR Tambo) in South Africa, as she lives quite far away for the airport. She got her baggage at the Domestic terminal & went to find the check in counter for Cathay Pacific. She was misguided x3 times by Airport staff & when she finally arrived at check in, she was exactly 5 minutes late & they just kept on saying there is no way for them to assist her at all, I tried talking to them very nicely and explaining that she was on time at the airport. My mother started getting emotional to which the two ladies unwilling to assist, laughed at her - Their names: Polesha & Nozipjo, which is really unasked for, laughing at an older lady extremely emotional about the situation at hand. Offering zero support! I then asked them to talk to their manager, to which they proceeded to tell me they had zero contact with theit manager, which I find extremely hard to believe. Since the airport staff of Cathay Pacific were very unhelpful and laughing about this matter, I resorted to calling Cathay Pacific.. 40minutes on the call, only to be told they have no way of contacting their staff at Johannesburg OR Tambo, to allow her to go through. Which I also find extremely unproffesional, how can you not have contact with your employees. They then proceeded to say I needed to change her flight date.. the only next available date being 2 April, instead of 17 March. Since she lives so far away from the Airport, with no family near the airport, there was no way we could allow for that date & was forced to cancel the flights - which meant losing money on the flight via Cathay Pacific & also losing money on the domestic flights & shuttle bus she needed to get there. I was forced to then also change her domestic return flight to return the same day & contact the bus to fetch her, which also cost extra money for a cancelled trip. Besides all the money loss, my mother had a extremely bad anxiety attack in the airport whilst being on a video call with me, thank goodness for the people that assisted her & then escorted her to the check in for a domestic flight back home.

I have personally been late to a flight check in, nearly 15mins and have alwaya found airline staff members to be understanding and helpful, getting me through to the airplane on time. Seems Cathay Pacific does not care for their clients health & finances, as they would rather not assist an elderly lady being 5 minutes late, than being understanding that she was late due to airport staff not being helpfup. I will NEVER use Cathay Pacific again & will advise everyone I know to not use their services. Worst day in my mother's life, we are both devastated & she is still in shock and anxiety due to this.
