Please note this item was a preowned piece of jewellery and sold as such.
Mr Keeley, in response to the review that you have left.
When you initially purchased the second hand 18ct gold diamond set signet ring from us, it was displayed in our preowned department and as such it did have a few signs of wear and tear such as scratches to the bottom of the ring. These marks were visible and at no stage did we try to suggest the ring was in pristine condition. However, the ring certainly isn't dented as it is a solid gold gents signet ring and as such can't dent.
Upon your return we explained to you that 18ct gold is a soft metal and that it can in fact mark and scratch during wear. If you were unhappy with the nature of the ring, this would have been the time to discuss it further with us and not wait a further 3 months.
When you visited us in store this week you were offered a credit note to the initial purchase value of £2,250 which you initially agreed to. As I started writing out the credit note you told my colleague that you didn't want this and wanted £2,000 back for it instead.
I proceeded to explain that I couldn't offer you that on the ring for a variety of reasons. I suggested you try to sell the ring on ebay because I am aware that people have had success achieving excellent values for their jewellery through this platform as it is open to a much wider audience. As you felt this wasn't a route you wanted to take, I did agree to discuss the ring as a family and see what we could do for you, explaining it wouldn't be until the end of the week. However, as a business we did actually manage to discuss your ring on Tuesday and decided that we didn't want to purchase it due to the current economic environment and the amount of money you were looking for.
Regarding the cleaning and polishing of the ring, I offered to do this at a heavily discounted price for you which I felt this was fair.
I would definitely recommend that clients research their purchases from any jeweller before making a final decision. This is something we have recommended for the last 50 years of successful trading. When comparing the ring that we sold you with a like for like alternative, matching the carat weight and number of diamonds and the carat of gold and the total gram weight of the piece we believe that the ring offered excellent value for money. I am very sorry that you are unable to appreciate this, but what you have written is not accurate.
