It may be technically legal but it is a SCAM!
I stumbled on this site in error. Having completed all the required details I was requested to make payment. At this point I had seen no mention of actual cost, and even at now I saw no amount required. I foolishly proceeded, only to be surprised by receipt for £86.50.
I was then asked to supply copies of supporting documentation - which did not do.
On further investigation, I found I could cancel my application and receive refund of £27.50 which I did.
A month later, I discovered a payment on my credit card of £8.00 to Clear Check.
Further investigation showed this to be a 'renewal'.
Thus it seems somewhere in the depths of their 'small print' you are agreeing to this renewal, which it seems does not get cancelled when you cancel the application.
DO NOT USE THIS SITE.
Look carefully for the official 'gov.uk' site.

In spite of Clearcheck reply, no one has been in contact, even less given an explanation or refund. As at 20:00 7th April, so I stand by my original review. Whatever you do, do not get 'sucked into' an application with this Company.

Applied for an Enhanced DBS check. Paid £101.50 plus £15.00 for a ID verification. After they send me Basic DBS certificate. Anyone can request basic DBS certificate directly from DBS. Now refusing to refund.

Got a Email from them after the review. Says that they are unable to refund.

NOT TO BE TRUSTED Not Good be very careful with this company. This company passed on my information including my payment information onto another company named Creditcheck online with out my authorisation. Shortly after I stared getting charged a monthly fee from this second company. I am now finding it very difficult to get my stolen information removed from this other company. I am now double checking every transaction in my bank to make sure clear check have not passed my information onto any one else. I am reaching out to the financial ombudsman to see where I stand.

Lisa was super quick in dealing with my application and notified me to inform me that the document was on the way and also provided a pdf of the document which I can now show to my employers sooner rather than later.

I paid for a DBS check for my son. The fee I thought I waz paying was almost tripled to over £130. I now see they are taking £8 per month out of my account!!! I cannot log into my account to cancel si havd had to cancel my debit card.
This company needs to be investigated!!

Update: see response from clear check below. It's too late, I have already cancelled my card to stop the payments. Additionally, I doubt very much you are going to refund me the £130. Your charges are hidden and misleading. I will be reporting this company. Nowhere dies it state £130!!!

I paid for an enhanced dbs and messaged a few times to see how it was going and not once did someone say I couldn't do an enhanced dbs check as an individual which means you literally took my money underforce potencies

Absolutely awful service, complete rip off

So not only was I charged twice for one credit check for my daughter, to get refunded I had to give a reference number that was never sent, apparently it's acceptable to take 8 pounds from my account Can't even ring up to complain as when you try it wants you to fill out an online form.
