Un-cooperative Insurance!

After more than 20 years banking with the Co-operative Bank including ISAs, current accounts, mortgage and insurance we needed some help for the first time with our car. We had broken down a long way from home with our young family and needed immediate help. I had mistakingly not ticked the breakdown cover box when booking the insurance - something I had always ticked before for the 10 years or so I'd had my car insurance with them. The policy papers were never sent to us, something we kept telling them but each time they said they'd send the papers again - we never received them and so didn't see that the breakdown cover option was not selected. They do not offer an email or download option for the policy papers - what century do they think this is? I agree that forgetting to option the breakdown cover was a mistake on my part but the way the Co-op treated me was appalling. There was no bend or give or gesture of good will. We have since pulled all our banking away from them and can't wait for the insurance renewal date to arrive so we can say goodbye forever. Shame on you Co-op - the most uncooperative bank you'll find.

Don’t ever take home insurance with…

Don’t ever take home insurance with co-op. Been without our home for three years whilst they can’t get a handle on the disgraceful workers they sent to do the job. My family’s entire lives have been devastated since had to move house 6 times in two years, jobs, move child’s nursery due to having to move. I am still in shock as to how long it is taking to resolve. We brought it to their attention about the terrible unlawful workmanship and feel like we have ended up punished for it because we are the ones suffering. I cry almost every day. The time that has been lost can never be replaced.

Friendliest Insuarnce!

Recently set up a new insurance policy with the CoOp, after several days and not hearing anything from them thought I would give them a quick ring to make sure everything was in order or if they needed any documentation sending. Spoke to Gemma who couldn’t have been friendlier, she assured me they had done their own checks and no documents were required, fab. She also sent me out a copy of my policy and helped me set up the registration for the online policy. Breath of fresh air to deal with such a nice company, no hassle whatsoever and Gemma couldn’t do enough for me. Been with the company for 1 week and have already recommended them to everyone I know. Thanks CoOp!

Good customer service however hit a wall with my BMW around £60 worth of damage but my airbags went off. They wrote it off paid me half of what the car was worth.

The worst part was they took 5 years no claims!!!!! I had a total of 8 and they have left me with 3!!!! absolutely disgusting other companies usually take 2/3 max. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!!!

This has cost me a fortune in the long run..

Top tier customer service.

Top tier customer service in my opinion. On the three occasions I had to call, they answered the phone within 2 minutes and they were extremely pleasant. Extremely informative and helpful. The only reason I had a small issue was due to the fact they weren’t able to insure me when I come to change my car. Though I understand as I was only 23 and the car I was getting was 40k+. However they did not charge me a cancellation fee which I feel was great. If only I could have stayed I would have.

Young Drivers insurance

JOKE OF A COMPANY PLEASE GO ELSE WHERE. Blackbox will in no way make your insurance go down, in fact it went up drastically every single renewal despite gaining no claims and they don't send out any correspondence to state this whilst you're in your cooling of period. Customer service are rude, unhelpful and absolutely clueless. The company just goes in circle's trying to protect themselves legally and doesn't in any which way care about customers. Spoke to a Manager, Jenny, who was clueless, avoided all my questions by putting me on hold and had the audacity to speak to me like dirt, probably the worst manager from any company I have ever dealt with. If this is how they treat a paying customer I'd advise anyone to get on Compare the market and go with anyone but these scumbags. When you call customer services their answer to everything is ' do you want your account cancelling or not?' They in no way have value for customers and you will be paying over price to be treated like rubbish and when you have a claim they try their absolute hardest to dispute and not pay out. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

Paid £35 to cancel just 6 days after getting the insurance

Bought Co-Op insurance and paid a £160 deposit. Cancelled it literally just 6 days later before it started and still had to pay £35 admin fee. What is that £35 for? Any other place just gives a full refund, as they haven't provided any kind of service. Such a scam.

Do not use at any time we took out home and contents cover just before going on holiday while we where away they sent 7 letters to us as they where not happy with a disclosure I had omitted therefore we had no idea what was going on consequently the policy was cancelled leaving our home uninsured for a month they had our email address yet this was not used when i questioned this i was told we are unable to use this system to communicate with us it would have been so simple when we returned home i complained to the co op only to be told after reviewing the complaint we where told that internal procedures where followed which seems that rules are made up to suit the co op as they go along be warned do not use at your peril

I'm a little confused over the mixed reviews for coop motor insurance.I've had nothing but positive experience so far and I've been with them a good few years now. I recently had a minor accident with a new car and I could not fault them whatsoever. The situation was dealt with promptly. As for customer service, the two ladies I spoke to were extremely courteous and treated me with kindness and respect, so much so that I felt compelled to seek out this page and give my honest opinion.

Ridiculous price for a good customer!!

Been with Coop car insurance for two years now. I won’t be with them a third year as the prices are ridiculous!! No claims or convictions. No payment problems. So they put the price up by a big amount!! No sense whatsoever. I’m going elsewhere. I’ll be paying approximately half the price for the exact same cover. I think these companies just assume people won’t check round as it’s a hassle. Well I’ve checked dozens of other car insurance companies and before making my decision I’ve also checked the reviews.

An absolute shamble

An absolute shamble, tricky and rude.
Got the insurance from these guys always payed the bill on time no problems whatsoever.
Change car ask to change the insurance for the new car. You have to cancel it make a new policy and you don't have to pay the initial fee. Just change it and thats it.
Without any reason ......"we can't provide a quotation to your new car." No reason given....insisted insisted, insisted no reason was given whatsoever and end up getting a new insurance in a new company and paying £190 initial fee. I'll take the complain to the highest level. HORRIBLE SERVICE, HORRIBLE AND RUDE COSTUMER SERVICE. DON'T RECOMMEND TO ANYONE UNLESS YOU WANT THE SAME PROBLEMS.

Co op insurance con club.

Wow. Taken insurance out with them. Almost two months in I get an email saying I’ve made a claim! My previous insurance made an admin error and put on the online database that I had made a claim, it was there error they sent me proof to say this, as stated the hailstone damaged my roof, I notified them and paid out my own pocket. (To prevent this) so I forwarded to co op, as requested. They then get me to call them and say that they won’t be changing this as it’s down as a non fault claim, my monthly installment now rises £20 extra a month! Woman sarcastic on the phone repeating herself over and over knowing I’m getting irate on the other end, because in essence I’m being robbed blind for something that did not happen. Absolutely disgusting service! Will not be renewing with this backwards company. All the women kept repeating was it was down as a non fault loss. How can they justify this? So In short story it hailstones. Damages my roof, I notify the insurance and what would be the claim process, How would it affect in long run? They say your insurance will rise if you claim. So I paid myself. Then this woman says if you claimed this is the price you would have paid. Even though you didn’t and paid from your own pocket.. so I’m a loser either way! Crooked thieves!

Overall postive experience

I've had to make a claim on my car insurance after being a victim of car theft. Claim was settled once the Claims Investigator gave them the green light. The settlement figure was also fair. The staff members I spoke to were all decent and respectful. One even allowed me to let my frustration of being a helpless victim of crime out. He gave me a listening ear. Shame I don't remember his name.

I dropped a star because I had to chase them up few days after the claims investigator had sent them a report. They had not picked up this report until I called them up. All in all, the experience was far better than I had expected. Claim was settled four weeks after it was made. I would recommend co-op insurance.

Poor communications

Was keen to support the Co-op (good ethical policy) but unfortunately my experience hasn't been great. Submitted a claim on 16th Nov 2018; heard nothing back from them. Finally chased it up on 16th Jan 2019 & was told that claim hadn't even been passed to claim handlers at that point...not impressed...

That said, and in fairness, once the claim was sent to handlers (& tagged urgent, on 17th Jan) I got a resolution within 5 working days.

In summary: might still use again, but would make sure I chased up any claims submitted!

For me they’ve been great

For me they’ve been great. Over £2000 cheaper to insure our car with my 17 year old son as a named driver. Less than £900 fully comp! Price comparison sites were quoting on average £3000 for a year. So far so good.

Stay clear of Co-op car insurance

Stay clear of Co-op car insurance, maybe a little cheaper in some cases but it is not worth the hassle, poor customer service. Make excuses for there incompetence, sent me a cheque for £25 as compensation for there stupidity, did not complain for money so not even going to cash it,
