Big birthday celebration

I had a big birthday celebration for approximately 60 people. I can’t praise jay enough for how helpful and accommodating he was from my initial enquiry up to the day where we were allowed to decorate the room.
The buffet food was superb, different from your ordinary sandwiches and sausage rolls!
The service was excellent, the service staff around clearing empty plates and glasses as needed.
Would strongly recommend The college Arms.

a disappointing Christmas dinner

We have just returned from a Christmas dinner for which we had paid in advance £99+ a pop. The main course was dreadful - food was cold, potatoes soggy, no sprouts or bacon as advertised. They reluctantly offered cabbage but this never arrived. The Christmas pudding was a stodgy square that tasted of nothing. We were seated in the annexe not the main resturant and next to a draughty window. the waitresses did their best but we should not have had to ask for what we had ordered.

Terrible roast & service

Booked a table then got put in a side room as restaurant Was full-was offered to move later. Food took 45 mins, I said I didn’t want gravy on roast, after waiting so long they brought out dinner covered in gravy-ok mistakes happen-they returned a minute later and basically had taken meet off plate and changed potatoes etc but meat was still covered. Potatoes were not fresh, couldn’t eat meat, waitress came and asked if everything ok, I said the meat was covered in gravy, she said it was beef dripping but it definitely wasn’t. She the shrugged her shouldered said sorry and just walked off before I could even respond. Think it was worst roast and service I’d received in I don’t know how long. Never been there before and definitely won’t be going back.

The College Arms, Hertford Heath Table Deposit

I booked a table for 6 people on a Tuesday evening. The Saturday before, while I was out in London in a busy/loud restaurant, I received a telephone call from a gentleman at the College Arms asking me to confirm my booking for the Tuesday evening. I confirmed that I still required the table. He then asked me if I could pay a deposit to hold the table. I said that it was not a convenient time as I was out and that I would call him back. He would not accept this and said he would, therefore, have to cancel my booking. I was somewhat irritated by this, but got up from my table and went outside as it was very hard to hear him. I gave my card details to the gentleman who then told me my card had been declined. I gave him the details again. Again it was declined. He said that if I couldn’t pay there and then he would cancel the table. I then tried another card that I had on me, again that was declined. After several tries, he asked me if my cards were MasterCards. I informed him that both cards were MasterCard. At that point he informed me that they only accept AMEX and Visa over the phone. I asked him if he could please not cancel the table and that I would have to call him back when I got home as I did not have any other cards on me. He reluctantly agreed. I found the whole experience extremely pushy and unnecessary. Due to the above I cancelled the table and went somewhere else!
