My OLED TV developed a screen issue

My OLED TV developed a screen issue, and I took it to Consumerism Ltd for repair. The service was extremely professional from start to finish. They quickly diagnosed the problem, explained everything clearly, and repaired the TV at a very competitive price. I was impressed by their knowledge, honesty, and excellent customer service throughout the process. My TV is now working perfectly again. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend Consumerism Ltd to anyone looking for reliable TV repair services.

So we can only assume you meant this review for someone else.

Getting Repairs Done, Not Just Buying a New Replacement

I took my old Panasonic TV to them after it had been declared unfixable by a local Panasonic agent, who said the ‘power unit’ had gone and replacement parts were no longer available. The Consumonics engineer diagnosed the problem within 3 minutes using the remote control. He said it needed a new backlight, assured me it could be done and said he would investigate the cost and come back to me. They duly did within a day, giving me a quote and warning it would take a week to get the part and replace it. They also warned that it was ‘beyond economical repair’. I said go ahead and repair it not wanting a new, cheaper, lower quality TV. I was so pleased I took in my Marantz CD player when I picked up my TV, and got that back in working condition in 3 days. They will get all my electronic repairs in the future.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

On the face of it, the call out charge of £110 which is then put towards the cost of repairing your item sounds reasonable UNTIL you receive an extortionate repair quote from Consumonics Ltd. In my case, it was a quote of £469.00 for a new main board for my tv, the actual cost which was later confirmed by the authorised Sony Repair Centre (near Gatwick) to cost less than £130.00. When questioned further about the availability of this board, Consumonics were very evasive about where they would source the part and did not provide any evidence or justification for their price quoted. Needless to say, all my customer confidence evaporated very quickly and I declined to have the item repaired by them, thereby forfeiting the whole of my call out charge. Their preferred means of communication is by brief text messaging and rudimentary diagnostic/ repair paperwork upon returning my tv. Would not recommend this company for all the above reasons.

Reply to Consumonics pitiful comments:

I think you mean graciously rather than gracefully?

Any professional diagnosis and repair report would have included where the part(s) are supplied from, together with the true cost of that part. You made no effort to justify their cost of the part in our discussion, which shows poor customer service. I note that you do not dispute your quote of £469 for the main board is massively inflated from the approximate price of £130 quoted by Sony.

I have not lied or blamed you for anything, other than for attempting to overcharge me for the part, which you have not disputed…

Give me proof of the cost of this part and I will remove or adjust my review of your business.

Response to last Consumonics Ltd post, as follows:

The screenshot you sent is not verifiable and could have been produced by anyone. The ASWO wholesaler website is not accessible to me, as a private customer but this is made rather irrelevant by the fact that an alternative repair quote by an authorised Sony Repair Centre near Gatwick was over £200 cheaper than your quote. I feel no need to alter my review of your business, especially as I have also retained our early text communications, together with your subsequent unpleasant and antagonistic WhatsApp messages.

We apologise if you feel that you have not been provided the information you had requested.

However, upon auditing the recorded communication trail via texts, it is clear that all information you had requested was duly provided including the part numbers and ETA of the order. No where in your communication to us was the source of our supplier questioned or asked, but as you have asked for it now in this reveiw, the supplier would have been the Sony authorised vendor ASWO UK (with whom you are welcome to check the cost of the part as well).

In terms of our mode of communication, we have found it to be the best practice where a complete record of communication is kept, especially where the customer tries to allege differently as we have are experiencing in this case unfortunately.

In terms of the fault diagnosis, that is a standard report that is printed on the job sheet. If you are expecting something similar to an evaluation report for any insurance claim, then you can simply ask for that.

It is also quite impressive that a Sony authorised repairer has quoted you £130 for the part whereas Sony itself is selling the part for way more than that as quoted, please do ask or share the information of their supplier with us, maybe we can use the same for our next customer (this is a sincere request)

We as a repairer already know that you are repairing a TV and not buying a new one from us, that is why we will try our best to quote for the cheapest & fastest available spare. In your case we have correctly quoted you on the price and availability of your TV's spare part.

We await your reply with the requested information.

-----
Reply to your addition:

As professional repairers since 2006 all of our quotes are given as standard, similar in any industry. Any Quote does not include source of parts unless requested specifically, it does include the part number which we have provided for you to do any research you may like on costing and availability.

You have initially stated yourself that you had requested this and we were evasive of providing it... we have simply asked you to prove this allegation (which of course you cannot as this was never requested). If this is not false accusation then we are not sure what else to tag it as.

Anyway, we have sent you the screenshot of the cost of part on your whatsapp along with the details as follows:
Cost of part = £344.18
postage = £6.99
Our markup = £39.50
VAT @ 20% = £78.13
Total = £468.80

Mark ups are added to cover for warranty on the spare (A spare part is covered for 90 days warranty, we give 60 days more for an extra peace of mind)

If you are not satisfied with the authenticity of the screenshot, you have the phone number of our supplier to contact them directly. If you are unable contact them for any reason and are adamant on your own incorrect point of view, then unfortunately we are unable to assist your cause any further. We are happy that you have received a cheaper quote elsewhere even though you have not shared the details we have reqested, but we rest our case as you have made incorrect allegation continuously without providing a single evidence to counter our proof. For starters, you can simply share your evidence of the 'Evasive' tactics we have utilised in providing the information you had requested.

Nonetheless, Your review clearly shows that its incorrect and unfounded. But of course you are entitled to your opinion albeit making false allegations is immoral.

Extremely poor service and communication

My TV was collected on Tuesday 16th December. On Wednesday 17th December, I received an email advising that the TV required a replacement backlight array and ETA for parts would be within 3–5 working days.

Given the time of year, I contacted them via email to kindly request that, if at all possible, the TV be returned before Christmas. I explained that I have an autistic, non-verbal son who relies heavily on the TV as part of his daily routine and regulation.

From Friday 19th to Saturday 20th December, I attempted to contact their office over 10 times. On every occasion, the phone rang out with no answer.

On Monday 22nd December, I discovered via their website that their phone lines had been switched off from that day (three working days before Christmas) which I find completely unreasonable.

On the evening of 23rd December at 8:30pm, I received a text message stating that my TV would be delivered on Christmas Eve between 12–2pm and asking me to confirm availability.

I replied to confirm and ensured I would be at home during that time.

As a medical doctor with very limited time off, I sacrificed Christmas Eve, time I should have spent completing Christmas shopping for my children to stay at home awaiting delivery.

By 2pm on 24th December, no one had arrived. I texted the provided number asking for an update, explaining that I was waiting in and needed to plan my day.

My messages were read at 2:04pm, yet I received no response. I called and messaged repeatedly pleading for an update. Despite this, I continued waiting until 8pm in case the driver was delayed.

The TV never arrived.

As a result of their failure to deliver as promised and their complete lack of communication, I am now spending Christmas without a television, unable to watch Christmas programmes or provide a vital source of comfort and engagement for my autistic son. I also lost an entire day that should have been spent preparing for Christmas.

Had I been informed honestly that delivery was not possible, I would have made arrangements to collect the TV myself, given how critical this was for my family.

This experience has been deeply frustrating and distressing, marked by broken promises, ignored messages, and unacceptable customer service.

I will be writing to the CEO of my insurance company to seek financial compensation for this dreadful experience and to inform them of the my experience from their commissioned services from this company.

Thank you for your patience while I personally investigated the details of your repair. I received your email on Christmas Day and immediately began gathering information from my technical and logistics teams to provide you with a clear explanation.
Firstly, I would like to offer my sincere personal apologies for the distress caused to your family. As a service provider, we understand the importance of a television as a routine-regulating tool, particularly for children with additional needs. It was for this very reason that my team took several proactive steps to expedite your repair.
However, having reviewed the logs, I must respectfully clarify the timeline, as there were several factors outside of our control that impacted the final delivery:
1. Your TV was collected and diagnosed within 24 hours. To save time, we took the initiative to pre-order the parts before receiving insurer approval, specifically to meet your request for a pre-Christmas return.
• Dec 18th – 22nd: Although parts were in stock by the 18th, your insurers raised queries regarding the claim. We responded to these immediately, but we are legally and contractually unable to install parts until the insurer grants formal approval. This approval was not granted until the afternoon of December 23rd.

2. We shared your urgency and, despite receiving approval very late, we worked overtime to install the parts and book a delivery for Christmas Eve.
• Communication: Our automated system sent the delivery window text. While our office lines were closed for the holiday break, these responses are monitored by our logistics team.
• The Visit: Our records show that our driver attempted delivery at your premises during the allocated window. Our logs indicate that the driver attempted to contact you twice at 11:18 am to coordinate the arrival. Unfortunately, the calls did not connect (appearing to be switched off or out of signal - a screenshot of his call log has been sent to you via email)
• Outcome: As the driver could not make contact and was unable to leave a high-value appliance unattended, he had to proceed with the remaining holiday route.
--
While I understand your frustration at being without the TV, I believe that characterizing our service as "poor" or "unreasonable" does not account for the fact that Consumonics went above and beyond standard protocols—specifically by pre-ordering parts at our own risk—to overcome delays caused by your insurance company.
We acted in good faith to meet a very tight deadline, and it is a matter of sincere regret that the final connection on the doorstep was missed.
-
If we had any attention of being negligent to your repair especially when you discussed your needs with us, we would have not been pro-active in ordering parts and also squeezing in the repair a day before attempting to deliver it. The facts are at your behest to be fair in reviewing your own complaint. The same information will be shared to other portals where you have reviewed us (Google and Trustpilot). It may be convenient albeit unfair to leave a review on our service without giving us any chance to respond to your complaint.

Great outcome

My TV packed up last week.
Went to Currys to see Samsung expert but no help.
Contacted Samsung helpline, not much help at all.
Got a diagnosis within 24 hours for the issue with costs.
Many thanks.

Terrible experience avoid these idiots

Terrible experience avoid these idiots. They claim to be able to fix Panasonic TVs and they cannot even get the parts. The man who came to get the TV wrecked the wall bracket and took the part of the bracket for the TV with the TV. As they claimed they could not get parts they returned the TV minus the rest of the bracket. So not only did we have to go else where to get the TV fixed by an Approved Dealer !!!!!!!! we had the cost of a new bracket. They are totally clueless and I can only conclude the other reviews are fake or they pay people to take negative reviews down.

Their reply below is refuted. To clarify - I was able to source the part from an Approved Panasonic dealer who clearly was more able to fix the TV than these people. Why after the damage the was caused would you trust them to take the TV again! They are NOT approved and that is why they cannot get the parts.

I spoke to Panasonic and they gave me the name of the other supplier. It is Panasonic who advised me that you are not approved and explained only the approved dealer are permitted to get the parts from Panasonic. The other dealer did not have it in stock as alleged.

Also I did advise of the damage the day after you took the TV but wasn't aware you had taken the part of the bracket that goes on the TV. We only realised you had not returned it when the TV was being reinstalled and when I requested the parts via text and email you ignored me.

Furthermore the bank has not reversed the charge they have agreed with me that you misled me about being able to repair the TV and also losing the parts as I have to buy a new bracket. I have the evidence too. So you are misspelling your services claim gin you can repair Panasonic when you cannot source all the parts.

You advertise that you can fix Panasonic and you can't that is a fact.
Also why would I source a part from an approved dealer and then send it to you to fix given everything that has happened. I think you are very misguided and delusional on that point. No one in their right mind would do that when the dealer who can get the part is able to fix it. So I humbly suggest you only advertise work you are actually able to do so people do not waster their time money and energy.

We are very sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with our service. However, we must respectfully refute several of the allegations made in your review.

Firstly, regarding the part required for your Panasonic television, we want to clarify that this specific part is not manufactured by Panasonic itself. Following our initial assessment, and based on your assertion that Panasonic had the part available, we provided you with all the necessary details to source it directly from them, and offered to install it for you. Which apparently you were not able to do so unfortunately.

Secondly, we categorically deny taking any part of your wall bracket. Our job sheet, which serves as a detailed record of the service call, clearly indicates that the brackets remained at your premises.

Finally, we are aware of your attempt to initiate a chargeback with your bank regarding the callout fee. We fully cooperated with the bank's investigation and provided comprehensive evidence, including the aforementioned job sheet. As a result, the bank concluded that the chargeback claim was unsubstantiated and resulted in a debit to you again.

We strive to provide an honest and transparent service to all our customers, and gain no benefit when a part is not manufactured as a spare from the manufacturer. We are disappointed that you feel your experience was negative, but we stand by the accuracy of our service records and the outcome of the bank's investigation. We wish you better luck in getting your television repaired elsewhere.

---
Reply to your Edit:
We do have trade accounts with Panasonic part suppliers. We had contacted them all to quote on part cost and availability, all advised that its not manufactured unfortunately. If a singular Panasonic approved repairer has this part in stock, and it is not available with Panasonic, how can we have revealed of its availability with that specific repairer? - A factor out of our control unfortunately. As advised to you in our conversation, we search for this part with all vendors, as well as looked for a used/refurbished condition of it, but nothing was available. You had the part details yourself and we assume you would have checked yourself.
But as we stated, we get no benefit or advantage from not having to repair your TV.
In relation to this alleged damage, we find it bizzare that upon delivery the TV was inspected by yourself and eventually a job sheet sheet was signed off by yourself which states the condition of appliance delivered (including the photos we have as proof), but anyway, this appliance was delivered on 20/02/25, and you are just advising of a damage on 03/04/25?.
As stated earlier, we retain no benefit in not having to repair your TV and wish you the best of luck with your repair.

---
Addition to your additonal response:

We wish to clarify that we have never represented ourselves as an authorized Panasonic repair service, nor have we advertised as such.

While we understand your desire to have your television repaired, the fact that Panasonic is unable to supply the specific part is a separate issue from our service offering. We did, in fact, offer to install the part for you if you were able to source it independently. Therefore, we believe the situation has been disproportionately escalated.

As we have thoroughly addressed all points and there is no new information to add, we will now conclude this correspondence. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Perfect service

Perfect service

I can’t praise Consumonics high enough. Their professionalism and skill set is only matched by their code of conduct and ethics which is something very rare.

First of all they have unmatched knowledge in their field. My (then) faulty TV was a very rare Panasonic AX900 model of ten years ago; they were the only engineers to have specific knowledge of this model.

Secondly, they will not accept payment from you unless they think that there is a good chance that the TV will be fixed. I offered them a one off payment to attempt to fix my TV, after having tried to play amateur engineer and fix the fault myself, but they wouldn’t take it, because “it wouldn’t be fair to me”, as they suspected (as did I) that I had irreversibly damaged the TV. They only accepted my offer to work on my TV, after a second conversation I had with them, assuring them that I hadn’t, in fact, damaged the panel at all. You just don’t find integrity like that.

Furthermore, on the issue of payment, I was so pleased with the result, that I offered them an extra top up payment to express my gratitude, but, again they didn’t accept it, and they were just pleased that I was happy with the result, and they were very content with the original agreed upon fee.

Talking about the fee a bit more, to come and collect two very large and heavy 65 inch TVs (an extra one to source parts), work on your tv for five days, and return them both on day six for £160 all in, I find it incredible value.

You can also tell by the way their delivery man handles the TV, what care they put into their work. The way they wrap the tv, the way he was so careful to carry it, like carrying a Picasso painting, just says it all. By the way, I forgot the delivery man’s name, but he was a lovely person, extremely polite and helpful, from Ecuador if I am not mistaken. A very big thank you to him as well.

Thirdly they will not offer you any false hopes. They are very honest and upfront from the beginning about the nature of the repairs, particularly in my case, due to the age of TV and the well documented issues this particular TV has.

Finally, In terms of punctuality, they had advised working on my tv between 3 to 5 working days, and they delivered the tv to me on day 6. So perfect score there as well.

As I said at the outset, I can’t praise Consumonics high enough. Perfect service from great people.
