Avoid at all costs – potential breach of UK consumer law

I contacted Continental Car Hire for a credit hire only service after I was involved in a non fault accident. My car was parked in a car park while I was inside Tesco, and when I returned someone had reversed into the front of my car. The driver accepted full liability. I already had another company dealing with the repair, so I only needed a replacement vehicle.

My experience with this company was extremely unprofessional and disorganised.

I spoke to someone called Mohammed who told me they would handle everything and provide a like for like replacement car. They asked me to send a large amount of personal information including ID photos, my National Insurance number, accident photos and other documents. They also made me contact the third-party insurance company and obtain paperwork, and even contact the garage dealing with my repairs.

After two full days of communication, sending documents and following their instructions, the story kept changing. Every time I called, different staff members gave contradictory information. First they said they could provide a like for like vehicle, then they said they could not. Then they asked for more documents. Finally they said they could not provide a car at all, giving reasons that did not seem valid.

This behaviour raises serious concerns under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Under UK law, services provided by a business must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and information given to consumers whether verbally or in writing can become legally binding if the customer relies on it.

In my case, the company repeatedly gave conflicting information, made promises about providing a replacement vehicle, and asked for extensive personal information before ultimately refusing the service after wasting two days of my time. Services are also expected to be carried out within a reasonable time and with professional competence, which clearly did not happen here.

Overall this experience was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. Based on how this company handled my case, I would strongly advise others to be cautious and consider alternative companies.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM

These people will give you old faulty cars (leaking fuel on my case) and they will charge insurance’s scary prices and as a result the insurances will decline paying the hire car. Then they will harass you with a mind blowing bills and solicitors etc. please stay away unless you got time to answer calls of scammers. I ended up paying for MOT as they gave me a car without a valid MOT.

Unless you got the best law knowledge or a trusted lawyer DO NOT even think of doing business with these people.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

was involved in an non fault accident.
was reffered to these guys for an hire vehicle.
from start to finish the service has been absolutely horrific.
My vehicle is a 6.2L performance car.
I was told my vehicle is SP13 the highest category and an like for like vehicle is in the region of
Range Rover SVR
Nissan GTR
Porsche 911
Bentley Continental and so on
Continental provided me with a 2016 S class which had a number of faults including broken engine mounts of which they denied and said is a dpf filter fault
the vehicle has a cracked headlight which they said its ok as the light still works.
They had given an ex pco vehicle with 181,000 miles on it and said it had been checked prior to the car coming out on hire.
The vehicles doors dont unlock from inside.
the car had stains all over, was not even washed properly.
Once in contact regarding the matters they act as if they will go above and beyond to help. They wont. its been 5 days since they said every day we will replace vehicle, they dont do it, they ignore phone calls but enjoy the £300 a day theyre getting paid for an utter rubbish vehicle which is not roadworthy.
i had to pay for diagnostics from my own pocket which they are ignoring to reimburse to prove the car is faulty.
promised me an replacement but come up with an excuse every time.
service is terrible, if you have been involved in an accident do not contact them, you rather use bus and train.
i have told them theres a new born baby in the family, not a single care is shown they do not care. dont bother and save yourself the hassle. i regret it and will be taking my complaint to fca, solicitors and Financial ombudsman as this is by no means acceptable.
I have got evidence of everything including them basically calling me a liar.
I will keep this forum updated.

UPDATE -
It has been around 4 days since my first review.
It had been removed due to me agreeing for my reimbursement to be paid for diagnostic and fuel and a switch of vehicle to remove the review.
The company has once again not reimbursed me as of yet.
They had taken the S class back after i funded my own insurance and fuel.
It was agreed to swap for an E class which after i took it i realised it has 0 miles fuel and it doesn’t even drive straight with loud bang on driver side suspension.
Bear in mind i drove 2 hours to collect this E Class.
I had then decided to take the car back and pick up the Broken S class once again as i had no other option.
So evidently there is no form of inspection before vehicles are hired. I have attached an image of what is straight on the E class when the wheel is turned left.
I had to put £5 fuel in the E class which i also want reimbursed.
The following day i was called in to collect the Porsche they promised.
A 2016 Porsche Cayenne with 68k miles
The car was filthy i have attached pictures. of how the car was AFTER they took the car in and washed it. Once again 0 miles petrol in the car, seems like a habit with them.
In the evening my dad had noticed severe juddering from the brakes, realised it doesn’t have a single cm of brake pads left. a day has gone past with no solution other than them saying to bring the car to their garage which is 2 hours away so they can change the pad.
Which would mean more fuel a whole day wasted and so on without reimbursing me.
I will keep this forum updated to see how they respond.
Clearly they are getting past the days 1 by 1 and racking in the total for their payments.

Fantastic work
