I was raised on thick cumberland…

I was raised on thick cumberland sausage
Bought 2lb to take home to lancashire .
I agree with polly they are tastless, every thing she says Rubbish , Aldi has far nicer sausage in there superior range, Also bought 2 cheesy Sausage wrapped in bacon, skin that thick could not bite through properly ,The pork pie is smaller than it used to be but still tasty , the meat and potato pie was not great pastry really thick .
The cheese scones were excellent best we have had , but stale next day best on day of purchase, Bought a few more bits , crisp by pie counter are not worth the money they charge , olives were good .
We spent alot of money in that store and won't be doing it again cannot believe how rubbish the sausage are to what they used to be , very very disappointed.

Pasty tasteless products

The pork pie and sausages were very disappointing. They felt mass produced and were tasteless and pasty . We used to love the food when we lived in the area and made a special visit to shop there whilst on holiday . Never again

Cranstons used to have the best pork pies

Cranstons used to have the best pork pies and sausage rolls always fresh and a treat to look forward to so it saddens me to have to do this review after being a customer of theirs for close to 20 years but since lockdown these pies and sausage rolls have been stale, sour tasting meat and coated in fat on the outside of the pastry seems they have changed the recipe for cheaper ingredients not good i contacted customer services to be met with an attitude of i dont care get lost well done Cranstons you lost a customer

Shocked and incredibly saddened to…

Shocked and incredibly saddened to learn that Cranston's chicken, unless stated "free range" which are from Dorset, comes from a factory farm in Penrith. Also their pork products are from indoor reared pigs. Not personally what I would expect from a farm shop/local butcher. Wish I'd learned this before I spent £60 there on food that I doubt I'll even be able to eat.

Poor customer service

Visited the Brampton shop this afternoon for cheese. Bought the wrong cheddar by mistake (smoked). Returned to the shop in under a minute but would not replace and asked to buy another block of cheese instead.

Unbeatable sausage!

I just wanted to take the time to say ordering meat online can be a bit of a lottery given that courier companies are so poor. However, this time, the goods arrived as desired and are perfect.

We can't wait to cook the cumberland bad boy and tomahawk steaks at the weekend. Yes it's not cheap, but by golly it's the best sausage in the world.

Can’t understand why it’s highly revered

The majority of products that are on sale have artificial ingredients but are expensive. The staff in Penrith serving food have on many occasions touched their faces then not washed their hands or wore gloves before serving on the hot counter. Worse was at Orton Grange when someone didn’t wash their hands after emptying a bin!

Good products- extremely helpful staff

Whilst Cranston‘s does not have an enormous selection of products in its store - it is not a supermarket- they do produce high-quality food, especially the prepared meat products, pies and other local specialities. They could have a better fruit selection. Their Penrith store is recommended. The staff are extremely helpful.

This was the first time I have visited…

This was the first time I have visited the Carlisle store and I was pleased by the quality of the food and the service. It was actually about ten minutes before closing time and I had intended to pop in for a quick look to see what they stocked and then rush back out but the young gent on the fresh meat counter was friendly, welcoming, and happy to discuss various products they had with me and I ended up buying a range of goods. The woman on the cash desk was also friendly and did not rush me at all despite it being so close to closing time. Will certainly return.
