These motors are cheap chinese…

These motors are cheap chinese imports!! Dealing with this company is like banging your head against a wall, unresponsive, won’t honour their warranty. Reported to ACCC as I have sort legal representation to get my daughters hard earned money back ( her vehicle) . This company along with all his other companies ( which all have the same issues) needs to stop ripping off hard working Aussies!!

Good motor, poorly run business.

Could be a great business with a bit of professionalism and integrity.

Firstly, the good.

The motor ( G4NC to suit a Hyundai) was reasonably priced compared to other options out there and my mechanic couldn’t fault the quality. Also, when the gasket kit I ordered didn’t arrive with the motor, they were reasonably quick with a refund and returned the money without argument (only requiring one follow up email).

The bad.

After the initial contact was made on the 5th of December, 2024 to see the wait time on the back ordered motor I was assured it would be with me by the 3rd of January. Repeated phone calls went unanswered over a number of days despite leaving messages with contact details. It got to the point where I thought that it may have been a scam website and I’d lost my money. I eventually managed to make contact and was told to correspond by email and had more success, generally getting a reply within a day or two. After being given dubious reasons for the delay, the motor was eventually delivered on the 25th of February.

All in all, despite the drama, I’d probably purchase from here again with the understanding of how their business runs. If you buy from here, don’t believe the product is on its way until you have contact from the courier service and try to have the open ended loan of a car to see you through in the meantime.

Really not sure what to make of this…

Really not sure what to make of this company. I ordered an engine from them, and was given a shipping date. The date came up and no tracking so I contacted them and told it was "on its way" to me. Still no update so I contacted them again and was advised it had not yet got to australia. Was advised another shipping date with apoliogies for the previous mess-up. This date came up, and still no engine. I tried emailing them but no reply. There appears to be no way to raise someone on the phone (tried multiple times) and the phone number is for a differently named business. Eventually heard back from them again indicating it had been shipped. Finally contacted the owner via email (took 3 working days to get a reply) advising they still didnt have the engine. This made me a bit suspicious so I did some reading. It appears their engines are Chinese imports. "Crate engines australia" do not manufacture, and the images on their website are stock (actually nothing to do with their facility or staff or their "partmer" facilities or staff). They say they have been in business "since 2007" but "Crate Engines Australia" was registered in April 2023 according to ASIC. They had a google reviews page with seven (7) reviews on it, which was taken down in the time I was dealing with them. There are multiple screenshots of positive Google reviews on their page but no Google reviews page and when it was live none of the ones claimed in their website were visible. The reviews they claim to have remain not visible on Google at the time of writing this review. There were, though comments about their Chinese supplier and information about their engine quality. If you google "crate engines australia" there are zero online discussions about them or links to their website from any reputable sites or forums. All of this is strikingly inconsistent with a business claiming to be "The Leading Supplier of Brand New Crate Engines in Australia since 2007". I suggest people exercise due dilligence in dealing with them. My experience was that their service and reputational claims are highly dubious.
