Never renting from Cruise America again. Complete safety hazard and zero corporate accountability.
Five years ago, we rented a Cruise America RV for our oldest son’s 2nd birthday and had an amazing trip. Hoping to create a family tradition, we rented again for our twin boys' 2nd birthday. It ended horribly.
The Safety Hazard:
On our first day out, my oldest son was playing on the top bunk mattress. Shortly after, he came down screaming with severe arm pain and irritation. Upon inspection, the mattress and walls were covered in what appeared to be loose fiberglass dust. My wife and I attempted to clean the area with microfiber cloths and packing tape. Within minutes, our own arms began hurting, and washing the cloths only spread the irritation. When I shook out my son's shirt outside, a white cloud of dust flew out. The thought of my young children breathing this in is terrifying.
We spent 3 hours trying to clean it, but the fibers were deeply embedded in the mattress. The vehicle was completely uninhabitable.
The Return & Corporate Refusal:
We had to abort the trip entirely, wasting two full days loading, driving, cleaning, and returning the vehicle. The local depot representative inspected the RV, verified the severe condition, and refunded our security deposit.
However, Cruise America corporate Customer Relations refused a full refund. They only offered to refund 3 out of 5 nights because we "used" the vehicle for two days, and flatly refused to cover any ancillary expenses (ferry fares, fuel, campsite reservations, and ruined clothing that cannot be laundered without ruining our home appliances).
I declined their partial refund offer, and I absolutely refuse to sign things like I release any future claim of this issue. Even if they made me whole financially, my twin boys' birthday is forever ruined and we can never get that back. What I wanted was to see if they take accountability for the damage caused to customer by their product, which is clearly not happening.
Renter Beware:
This was a brand-new 2026 model with just over 4,000 miles. If you rent from them, take a flashlight to the top bunk and check the mattress immediately before leaving the lot. Better yet, skip Cruise America altogether. They use their policy to dodge liability when their own defective product causes physical harm and financially ruins a family milestone.

Do not rent from them. Horrible customer service. Piece of crap. Everything broke down. Curtains fell. Refrigerator conked in and out. Heater stopped working in Yellowstone when it was 29 degrees at night. Customer service response —-it will take 30 days to get back to us.

The knowledge and assistance of the reservation assistance

Reply from Cruise America
Heads up for future renters: read your reservation confirmation very carefully, because the way Cruise America presents pricing is genuinely confusing.
The "Total Charge" on the reservation confirmation is NOT the price of your rental. It bundles in a $500 refundable security deposit and subtracts your $300 down payment, so the number you see does not represent what your trip actually costs. When we tried to reconcile our credit card statements against the quote after our trip, the layout of these documents sent us down a rabbit hole that took hours of our time, multiple emails with the billing department, and a credit card dispute to untangle.
When we asked the billing department for help understanding the numbers, the responses were dismissive rather than helpful. A clear, line-by-line explanation up front would have resolved everything in one email. Instead we were repeatedly told the charges simply matched, with no real effort to address why the documents are so hard to follow.
Tellingly, when we called, a staff member acknowledged this is a known issue. We were told the down payment is "not actually a down payment" and that customers push back about it constantly, so the confusion isn't unique to us; it's built into the paperwork.
The RV itself was fine however for the above reasons and the lack of comfort of the RV, we will not rent again from Cruise America. The billing paperwork needs serious improvement: label the reservation total as "Balance Due at Pickup" and this whole mess disappears. Until they fix it, do your own math before you pick up the vehicle and keep every document.

Was not advised of generator costs or that the RV did not have a leveling system.
Saw several videos of previous customers who would not recommend CA, therefore we agree and cancelled.

Your booking representatives were excellent!
Unfortunately, I had to cancel the booking because of personal reasons.
I cancelled it using your online and also talking with the cancellation department, she confirmed it and she said I will be receiving a full amount of deposit. I would like to receive a confirmation email as stated. I still haven’t received it.
Thank you,
Young Lewis

Representative Greg Stephus was very competent and helpful for this first time user. Gladly answered all my questions with no sense of rush. I look forward to this level of care when I pick up my reserved RV!
