Very expensive and poor quality

The work we had done after calling Dan Locksmiths on 9/7/2026 was extremely expensive - over £400 to have a yale lock changed. The invoice was from a company called BS Security Maintenance limited. Unless it is an absolute emergency. I would get a few quotes from other businesses first. I wish I had done so.
They told me that the locks they install were much higher quality than those available online and so more expensive. They said there was only one which could be used on our door because it opens outward and that was £285. An MLA registered locksmith told me it retails for £30 and it is available for less than that online. They quoted £85 for labour plus parts and VAT over the phone, but actually charged much more. Only 10 days after the new lock was installed, it has developed the same problem as the old one – the bolt slips when it is snibbed open. I will have to get the job done again. This time I will check the locksmith is registered with the Master Locksmiths Association and get more than one quote.
Dan Locksmiths seems to be some kind of booking service for lots of different tradespeople, even though the website makes it look like a small business in whatever area you specify in your search. I don’t know if everyone who operates under the banner of Dan Locksmiths charges the same rates, but be careful before you use them. Their website highlights multiple positive reviews on OK2 Review. I tried to post this review there – it appeared briefly, but I could not find it the next morning.
