This company do not like giving refunds
I bought some rather lovely wall lights from Dar Lighting's on-line shop recently.
When they arrived I loved them but my husband was not so keen. I have to point out that there was nothing wrong with the lights, they were attractive and good quality but my husband just did not like them.
Reluctantly I agreed to return them and contacted Dar Lighting as there was no returns note in the parcel.
Firstly I was told that Dar Lighting did not accept returns, however when I pointed out that you do have the right to request a refund within 14 days of receipt of goods and a further 14 days to initiate a return the person who answered the call cut me off.
I called back and the same person put me on hold whilst they checked with a colleague. Unfortunately whilst she thought I was on hold I could hear every word as she explained the situation recounting the dialog virtually verbatim and using a comedy voice for me (imagine Katherine Tate's Lauren Cooper and you get close to the effect).
I would not dream of mentioning the person's name as it was highly entertaining and she seemed a nice girl generally, if not a model of tact and a skilled practitioner of customer relations.
Moving on, when I stopped laughing I told the person I had heard what was said and I was cut off again.
I phoned back and was instructed to email my request and a RMA - Return Merchandise Authorisation number would be generated and sent to me. This came through quickly and I returned the lights (the customer pays the post)
Dar Lighting received the lights back on the 17th August and I thought I would give them a call today, 25th August, to check how they were getting along.
The return was awaiting authorisation and had not been processed as yet a full 8 days after receiving the lights. I do admit that by law there is a 14 day window to issue a refund but most companies jump on refunds straight away.
I freely admit that this is a first world problem and possibly a bit of something and nothing, but in a time when on-line business is flourishing and the high street is declining I would have thought it would be a good ideal for a company selling on line to make returning an item as easy as possible.
This can be done by:-
Including a returns note, when goods are sent
Making the companies returns policy transparent and easy to find (I had to hunt on the website)
Making all staff aware of the returns policy
Not asking the customer to send emails to generate a return
Not expecting the customer to pay for the return
Processing the return in a timely manner when the goods are received
I have to say that everyone I have spoken to has been very polite, not particularly helpful, but very polite, well - to my face at least! however I will probably not use Dar Lighting again or recommend them despite the fact that they sell attractive, quality products. There are plenty of other companies who offer similar products and Dar are just too much hassle.
I will keep you all posted as to the time it takes to get the money back in my grubby paws!!!
Update 14.10.20
Got a lovely response from Dar which has definitely improved my opinion (that and the fact that the refund was sent immediately after my last contact.
As I stated previously they make smashing lights and are a UK business which we should all be supporting so I am going to give them ****
