Blick customer for 25+ years
Blick customer for 25+ years. Last order great prices on items prompt online confirmation of order and ship date. I've always had excellent customer service with Blick, even when there have been problems related to the shipping carrier a quick resolution was always communicated and accomplished. Will continue to shop with Blick for my art supplies.
So they do listen to reviews after all
It’s nice that this site not only gets the exact items I ordered, but the quality is great too. I used to have shipping issues months ago probably because of past technical difficulties on their website but in recent times, it’s not a problem for me. Turns out, I should be double checking my information and not just the orders.
Charged my credit card an extra $100 weeks later
I ordered a desk they charged me the price. Then weeks later I was charged an additional $100 on my credit card they were charging for shipping. That was never told to me when I purchased it. I called they said the shipping is in another location on their website. Dickblick is very deceitful don’t trust them they aren’t honest when go to pay. There are plenty of art stores that are trustworthy to use.
Dick Blick uses Fedex
Dick Blick uses Fedex. Fedex fails to deliver packages to my address, although UPS delivers every day. When told Dick Blick was told my order had been delayed several days beyond its stated delivery date, Dick Blick was unconcerned. Each morning, I'm told the order is on the truck. Each afternoon, I'm told that the order is delayed due to 'operational issues'. (Strangely, Fedex changes this to 'unable to deliver' later.) I will find another online art store that cares about their customers.

It feels like now that they put smaller art stores out of business, they have a monopoly and can treat customers like dirt.
I had 2 recent bad experiences:
First, FEDEX mis-delivered the order, and showed a photo of the box in front of an unknown house. I contacted Blick customer service. Their first response: it WAS delivered to my home. "We checked on Google maps and see the photo of your house matches the Fedex photo."
It absolutely did not match!
Finally, Blick agreed to re-send the order. That's when I noticed the worst - the items were jacked up three times more than those on the Blick website.
A $5.98 item was now $17! Was this "bait and switch"?
I emailed Blick. And guess what? The next time I looked at Blick online, the item's price had been altered and increased.
Kind of fishy.
I now want to start supporting the few remaining small art stores to help keep them in business.
Canceled Order without informing me, zero help or service
Placed an online order on 10/2/2022. Today, 10/16, I just realized I had no shipping info (we placed a lot of orders for a project). They get back to me very quickly to tell me the order was canceled due to "address issues", apologize for any inconvenience (well, yeah, you think?) and then to call with any additional questions.
While I appreciate how fast they replied to my inquiry that really amazes me considering I did not receive a single update/notice letting me know the order was even canceled. I received an order confirmation, then nothing else. Why not inform me?
I am really tired of such abysmal service. When you actually try to stay away from Amazon and take your business to more independent operators you are then dealing with this.
What on earth is an "address issue"? Well, I don't know because they couldn't be bothered to explain. 11/12 other orders all arrived just fine at that same address, so your guess is as good as mine.
My favorite part however, is when there is ZERO offer to make it right. I never even received an email stating the order was canceled, weeks ago! So we're expecting these items to arrive any day now, with so many delays these days we try not to obsess over delivery updates and really just trust - stupidly obviously - that the order will arrive unless we are informed otherwise.
But no offer to figure out what the "address issue" was, not even an apology for never informing me it was canceled. Just, nothing. I am so over it.
Blemished Frames
I recently Purchased 3 frames and two of them have blemishes in the finish. Item #:18846-8012 Blick Simplon Frame, 3-1/4”- 8” x 10” x ½”, The espresso-colored paint was stuck to the corner protectors. When the stuck-on cardboard was taken off the frame, the paint was damaged underneath. Item #:18846-8112 Blick Simplon Frame 3-1/4”-8” x 10” x ½”, the Antique Bronze Paint was chipped and came with gold paint on the chips like someone tried to repair it.
I bought these frames for a plein air festival where someone will be paying a large price and will not want an imperfect frame. I just emailed Blick. There will be an update once I hear from them. Update! I just received my 2 replacement frames, and one is damaged Blick Simplon Frame, 3-1/4”- 8” x 10” x ½”, in Espresso. It seems that the espresso paint is sticking to the cardboard corner protectors. I cannot accept this. I really don't have any more time to mess with this. I am very disappointed.

If I could Blick to do some things differently, it would be to package things better, stop using Fedex since they are the ones who seem to literally throw stuff on their box corners out of the trucks, check the quality of the goods before they are packaged.
Credentials: I'm a professional artist who paints full time for a living and sells around 70K worth of art a year. (I'm a former tenured professor of art and art history.) I by all my supplies through Blick but, I still am annoyed by them.
I feel about Blick the way the I feel about Amazon, they don't care about how you feel: provide poor customer service but they have the monopoly.
I order almost all my supplies from Blick, canvas panels, stretched canvas, Winsor Newton paints, brushes, the whole shebang. I have ordered the same products and amounts from other sites and the prices are comparable but often the quality, delivery time, and customer service are worse. So Blick is able to beat grade "C" companies with a "B-" although at times I've had an "A" level experience too.
I always expect things to arrive damaged or poorly packed. How things are shipped sucks, and often things are damaged. Paint tubes are poorly packed and busted open or cut by the other items in the boxes and corners of canvas panels are sometimes damaged, and stretched canvas is often loose due to poor warehouse conditions or poor packing, but Blick always replaces them if you get in touch.
For example, I just got a shipment of 18x18x1.5 inch stretched canvases and the boxes were really messed up (the canvases were okay to use just loose or dented) easily fixed, I have had to spray canvas retentioner on every canvas to tighten them back up. I've actually got in touch with the owners by figuring out their emails and they have offered me coupons and discounts.

I ordered some crackle effect spray paint from Blick art. Out of 8 different cans, 3 wouldn’t spray so i called their customer service. they were very polite and they sent me replacements within 3 days that work without making things difficult. Thank you!
great place for creative needs
I've shopped at their in-person locations along with buying online and both experiences are easy and the materials are quality. the staffers are friendly and for their online presence, I really value the detailed inventory information.

Love these crayons. They go down very smoothly. I wish they had more colors. I would definitely buy them again. I use them in color books and tried them on several different kinds of paper. Colors are very saturated. They blend well on their own. You can also use them with gamsol and paper stump and/or Derwent blender pen and they give a beautiful smooth blended look. Order got here very quickly with no problems. Blick is great.

Prompt service and no shipping fees…
Prompt service and no shipping fees made me so happy, as painting paper weighs a lot! When our local art shop closed this year, I was not sure how I was going to get the paper needed to supply an elementary school without paying exorbitant shipping costs. Thanks Blick. Some boxes slightly squished which is a carrier issue, but maybe the box cardboard could be a bit thicker.

I was able to purchase pottery glazes…
I was able to purchase pottery glazes that I was unable to find at other retailer. The price was a little bit higher that others but I received them quickly and in good condition. I will certainly check back at Blick in the future for my pottery needs.
