Discover frustration by insuring with Discovery
Discover frustration by insuring with discovery.
I'm not surprised that Discovery has over 90% of 1 star reviews here on Trust pilot as my experience has been nothing but annoying. I used to be a client, insured for life, medical and car insurance. It's been 4 months since I cancelled all my cover with Discovery and they have let me down in multiple ways.
1) Website and app makes you go through hoops to get what you are looking for. There are times I've just paid full price for items I could have gotten discounts on because the app was such a pain to use. I feel like this is a tactic to discourage vitality benefits. Try emailing someone with regards to medical aid.. Goodluck, medical aid enquiries can only be done via phone call or WhatsApp. I had to search high and low to cancel my medical aid.
2) When I cancelled my car insurance, I expected a letter containing details of the period I was insured and that I have not mad e a claim. Miway did this automatically when I ended my insurance with them without even asking. I have now requested this from Discovery for weeks now but I still don't have a letter, nor a response.
3) Discovery has not returned my medical aid savings to me. According to their policy, it can take up to 4 months. However, it's now longer than 4 months since I cancelled my policy and I still have not seen my savings come through.
4) Car insurance requires you to install a tracking device which monitors how you drive and gives you a rating. Unfortunately the device records your driving all the time. So if you do offroad or 4x4ing you'll get a poor drivers rating and you cannot dispute it. So your cashback will be less.
Customer service poor
To whom it may consern i am not happy at this moment i applied for a transaction account because i heard by a couple of people you guys are better then other banks so i am leaving my bank to join discovery but already disappointed i applied last week thursday and still no answer another person i work with applied after me and has already received his card and his account is open so then this bank is just like the others apparently there are enough people at this bank because they clearly dont want other people every time i call all they say is we will escalate the app but no response just poor honestly
PATHETIC SERVICE
It's a pity you cannot put less than 1 star. I'm on Key Care Plus. My monthly premium is just above R5800 for the 4 of us. That is more than R69600 per year. My current job requires medical aid and didn't give us many options to choose from.
Currently we are in August for 2024, I have not used anything, my 1-year-old got no claims (I'm paying his injections cash), my 10-year-old got 1 dentist visit (where I had to pay in R850 and medical only paid R520) and a GP visit (again where I had to pay most of the prescribed medicine).
My wife had a couple of GP visits (1 I had to pay cash as she was not around her nominated GP, and also, I had to pay most medicine prescribed cash) and a specialist visit where he discovered that he must remove her tonsils and cut out a cyst close by and send it away for testing (not like we want to do it). Medical gave a straight decline, I asked them to review it, as for me it is an emergency and got feedback that they won't approve it, even though the doctors and her GP sended trough documents etc. as requested from them.
So, I've asked them why I even have medical aid, and the consultant rep****, "for emergencies that can happen". I mean really!!!!
So, they want 70k for the year from me, I have to pay most medicine and dentist visits myself, and also another 30k for my wife's procedure (which is kind of an emergency) while they are not even looking at it.
These people are just *****ing while they only want your money, they are definitely not there to assist you in any way whatsoever.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS MEDICAL AID TO ANYONE AND IF THE SERVICE FROM THEM IS SO POOR, I REALLY DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE OTHER DEPARTMENTS.
Horrific Service
Horrific Service from Discovery Insure!
I had the unfortunate experience of needing to place a claim for my car after the inclement weather we had experienced in Cape Town over the last couple of weeks.
The first consultant I had spoken to, while friendly and seemingly competent, did not call me back to let me know whether my claim he’d been logged after the call dropped. I then needed to call back and chat to a different consultant (I think) to complete the claim.
When my car was collected on the evening I had made the claim, I was informed that the gears on my car had started working, but when consulting with the towing company, was told that I should let the car go for assessment anyway as I would not be able to send it again after if it started giving problems again. I took the advice and sent the car.
A day or 2 later I received and email stating that my claim was withdrawn because there was in fact no damage and the claim was within my excess amount. I was not told where my car was, nor what was needed to get it back.
I had to follow up with Discovery at least twice to find out next steps. Eventually, I called in to track down my car and was told by the agent that I would need to collect it at Auction Nation (yard). She needed to step away and call me back to give me the location of the car.
After I had got off the call with the agent, I received an email from a different agent informing me that my car would be collected by Compass and delivered to me. Compass contacted me to ask me what was happening because they too were unclear about next steps.
Eventually Compass confirmed that they’d be delivering my car by the next morning, which also didn’t happen. The car was delivered to me in the evening.
The following morning I took pictures of my car as I was preparing to have it sold. I noticed a white mark on my front bumper which I thought might have been dirt, so I didn’t inspect further.
When I passed the car in my parking lot a few days later, I decided to take a second look at the bumper and noticed that it was in fact damaged. I reviewed the assessment sheet to compare old damage and confirmed that the bumper was in fact damaged during the time it was with Discovery or Compass.
I sent an email to Discovery showing pictures of the damage and asked them to refer to the assessment to confirm that the damage was not there prior to the car being collected from me. Discovery then responded by acknowledging that the car was damaged after they had it collected, and asked Compass to advise. Compass then responded saying that the damage was there when they collected the car from Auction Nation. Today, after no further contact from Discovery, I emailed the original agent who was managing my claim, Mpumi. She told me to get quotes for the damage to be fixed, which she would then escalate to her manager.
In addition, I had sent an official complaint to Discovery 7 days ago and received an automated response that my complaint would be dealt with in 24 business hours - I have yet to hear from them, even after sending an additional follow-up email.
It's the absolute WORST to be treated this way after being a member of Discovery (multiple products) for many years - and so commences my research to move my entire portfolio to a different institution.
Do not use this bank
I’m not sure where I can rate the bank here but the app is confusing and their customer complaints are terrible and have now decided to ignore my emails. I have escalated to the ombudsman.
I've been struggling to get on this…
I've been struggling to get on this medical aid for 2 weeks now. Been on the phone with them an hour twice! Not receiving my call backs when I request to speak to the consultant to tell them I have made payment (of previous debt I didn't even know I had) and then they still tell me I owe money after I sent the POP. Very poor service and communication. Already sent all required documents and still getting chatbot requests of documents needed. Also not being able to submit it online as the site keeps giving errors. Absolutely ridiculous and I haven't even started yet. No one is getting back to me. Supposedly the "best" in SA, seriously?
Rather Go To Bonitas.
What an actual pathetic excuse of a Medical Aid. Not only are the consultants clueless to say the least, you can hear the uncer*****y in their voices, the hospitals themselves are weary of accepting persons that are on certain plans! Is this because of Discovery's poor management of their networks? Leaving paying clients stranded in times of need because hospitals wont accept them. You think by choosing Discovery you are getting the best because its such a big name but I know people who are with much smaller medical aid schemes and they never encounter these sorts of issues and end up paying less out of pocket! I don't have the liberty of canceling my plan at the moment, but you can be guaranteed that when I can, I most definitely will. I'm meant to be in such a beautiful memorable period of my life right now, but Discovery has singled-handedly ruined it for me.
A big shout out to Thersa, Dustin, Ayanda
A big shout out to Thersa, Dustin & Ayanda for helping me through the whole process. You have been phenomenal in assisting me with all my questions. I look forward to joining the Discovery journey.
Horrible experience with discovery chronic devision
Good day as a chronic patient who has diabetes and is on the diabetes care discovery medical aid which is not cheap and neither am I on a low package is refusing to pay for my diabetes injection which cost 1600 per month excluding the big amount of medical aid that is being paid.I call in and the consultant can answer my question because they can see only what the rejection response is.I know discovery medical aid is ripping customers off. It this is to far if they cannot assist a patient with chronic medical care what is the use of medical aid ? I would like to find other discovery patients with the same problem I think it's about time we stand up an get what we paid for.
After a post like this a chronic consultant calls me to inform me how they still cannot assist me with the payment of my injection even after telling them to call me with a solution.they then sent an email stating they cannot pay for this injection an I should get my doc to call them after getting an motivation letter from the doctor, and I'm sure discovery is aware of every doctor visit there is payment that is needed.Discovery I am tired of the back an forth phone called with still no end result,I asked for a solution an am insisting I get one.
As per my previous Hello Peter post if…
As per my previous Hello Peter post if you want to end up dying take the Discovery Medical Aid if not I suggest rather go with Momentum or Bonitas even Sizwe.
I app**** for medication under my PMB as I have Myasthenia and Chronic Muscle Fatigue. I was actually admitted to hospital because of this as I could not get out of bed.
I was rejected the first time and when I complained here got and email to send through further details for consideration and this went up and down for a while only to be told that it is rejected again by their clinical specialist.
Why waste peoples time when you know you going to reject it again . Is it to silence them so they don’t expose discover medical aid for the **** yourll are?
I think I should find more people like myself they have done this to and go to court for their false advertising claiming to care about their clients when it is all BS
Like I said rather save yourself the pain and not take this **** of a medical aid
EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE. RUDE AGENTS.
Discovery car Insurance took 13 days to respond to me regarding cancelation of my policy. After NUMEROUS attempts to get a response on how to go about it, I eventually made a public review. Suddenly I got a call about an hour later. Would love to say that's how it ended however, the agent on the phone was exceptionally rude when I declined taking out a different policy with them. Best advice when it comes to Discovery Insure - USE A DIFFERENT COMPANY.
Local Authorities Health Focus plan shortfalls-Dentistry
Local Authorities Health Focus plan no dentist cover. Front tooth as well. Crown worked loose.
Code 8133 says you can't glue a tooth back but must get a crown or plastic tooth. Not covered in spite of funds available. Active plan will cover it.
On Pension and can save the Fund a subsidy for a time and now forced to cough up possibly from own funds at the beginning of the year already.
Discovery Medical Aid South Africa does not cover international medical emergencies despite including this benefit in their benefit brochures
Discovery Medical Aid Providers in South Africa claims that they cover international medical cost in relation to medical emergencies.
I've been hospitalised internationally with no payment received from Discovery since submission of the claim in May 2023 despite numerous complaints, follow-ups etc. Complaints lodged are either ignored or prolonged with automated e-mails stating that they need another 5 working days etc.
All costs for medical emergency had to be paid in cash by myself with no support from Discovery medical aid whatsoever. Comfort of medical cover by Discovery Medical Aid while oversees might thus be a well marketed perception with absolutely no substance.
