Monopoly is never good

Monopoly is never good. I see no reason they should be the only ones allowed to sell/license DK domains. Further more they keep increasing the prices, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it because they have the monopoly on .dk domains. Such a shame. Luckily, more domains are becoming available and the future of the internet isn't depending on a .dk domain.

Dear Suleman

You can not buy .dk-domains directly with DK Hostmaster, only via our registrars. The registrarlist is on our website.

And yes, the price have gone up on 1st of april 2023, due to rising costs as a result of inflationary pressure and increased costs for IT security.

Kind Regards

DK Hostmaster is a joke of a company, and a perfect example of why monopolies are bad

DK Hostmaster is a joke of a company, and a perfect example of why monopolies are so terrible.

I have now had issues with both of my .dk domains, and dk hostmaster has entirely refused to help both times. You just get boilerplate responses that provide no help or solution at all, and they instantly close your ticket, so you can't reply to them. You'll have to start over, and wait over a week to maybe get a response again.

DO NOT get a .dk domain unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. .dk domains are overly complicated, and relies on a terrible website, that looks and feels like it was created by a high school student in the 2000s.
You will run into issues with your .dk domain, and dk hostmaster WILL NOT help you.
You can email them, and then way 7+ days to hopefully get a response, and then realize that the response they gave you was useless, and they closed your ticket so you can't reply to them. They do not want to help you, because why would they bother? Not like you can take your business elsewhere if you need a .dk domain. Pathetic company.

If you really truly need a .dk domain, and have no other choice, then good luck, because you will need it.

EDIT: It took DK Hostmaster 20 days to reply to my review, and the reply didn't contain any attempt to help me with my issues. What a perfect representation of them as a company. Incredibly slow responses, and when they finally do respond, they're utterly unhelpful.

I am sorry to hear that you feel that we close your cases too soon.

This is something we will have to look at, so no customers will feel that they haven't gotten a proper answer to their questions in their tickets.

I don’t know where to begin

Don't know where to begin. Dk Hostmaster is a nostalgic experience of technology from the stone age. I probably own 30 different domains, but my 2 ".dk"-domains are more hassle than the 28 others.

After registering a domain they will start sending weird verification emails weeks later, redirecting to fishy domains like "Vismaadoo.net" asking for personal details. If you don't fill in your details on scam looking domains you will get suspended. This happened to us.

If you get suspended you are forced to pay for a waiting list position to your own domain to get a notification when your domain expires. You will have to wait 30 days until it is available again. However this service is not working as well, we had to manually remind them to send us the details many days after it expired.

When getting the restoring information, that you paid for, it says absolutely nothing more than "contact one of our recommended retailers below to get help".

If the reseller where you initially bought the domain is not in their "recommended list" (like the world's biggest domain seller GoDaddy), you will not be able to restore it anyway. You have to contact a new "recommended" registrar, pay for the domain a third time and lose all your domain records.

When writing to the support they will reply from a "no-reply"-address, so you can not have conversation with support. A reply takes 3-4 days and is always followed up with a "Case closed"-email. You have to start a new case, and wait 3-4 days, for every reply you send and get connected to a new support member.

This is what inefficiency looks like, hopefully they will catch up to 2022....in 2025.

Dear Steve

It is true that we use VISMA ADDO with our ID controls.
All registrants of a .dk-domain has to go through an ID control.
This is to ensure that we have correct data on the registrant.

We do not have a recommended list, only a list of the registrars who is registrered to sell the userrights of .dk-domains. If a registrar use/have a reseller, then the reseller will not be on our list.

If you have a suggestion on how we can improve our service, you are welcome to send them to me on trustpilot@dk-hostmaster.dk

Kind Regards

Monopolistic company with 0 care for the customers

Hostmaster is THE ONLY provider for .dk domains.
Please explain, how is it possible that in a country with 5.8m+ people the only option to get a .dk domain is through this entitled, braindead company?
Businesses use .dk domains, people use it to host portfolios and they rely on their website to make a living but god forbid if there are any issues. It would be easier to buy a gun than to contact this "business" considering that they only work 6 hours a day, except for Friday where they work 5 hours.
How is this monopolistic behavior even acceptable? I can see the "point" of having a unified system that keeps track of all the registered domains for the purpose of security, however I would rather deal with scams and fake webshops instead of being forced to use this trash service.
If you do have to use hostmaster, please remember that you will not be using this "service" but the service will be using you.

Trapped!

I wanted to activate a .dk-domain and DK-Hostmaster wanted to make an ID test to verify my identity (called VISMA ID check) within 30 days. No problem.

I had already signed up at DK-Hostmaster. But in the time between signing up and receiving information about the ID test, I had changed my address. So I needed to update my address information in "my profile" on their website.

But this is not possible. It seems I needed to do the VISAM ID check before I can change my profile information. But if I do the VISMA check, then the new address information will not agree with the address already in "my profile".

So I am trapped.
They deleted my domain the next day, because they rejected my ID application.
I tried to get an explanation, because I sent in all required info such as passport, bankstatement with the new address and extra photo. But DK-Hostmaster will not tell me what I did wrong. And the VISMA can only be applied once.
I even tried several times before I sent in the VISMA, to tell them by mail that I have a new address. I got no answer.

Shockingly poor service. I didn't expect that in a country like Denmark.

Dear T. Gan

I am not allowed to go into the specifics of a case, but I do know, that if you disagree with DK Hostmasters decisions or you believe that DK Hostmaster have made an error in your case, you always have the option of starting a case with The Complaints Board for Domain Names.

Their information should have been sent to you.

Domains deleted for no reason. Terrible.

As previous reviewers have mentioned - I too have had a .dk domain deleted because of failed verification. It baffles me that the company refuses to tell its clients WHY it rejects the applications. They just delete and thats that; end of discussion.

The only way to get things resolved is to go through Klagenævnet for Domænenavne which will cost you over DKK500 as a commercial client. A truly horrendous experience.

Dear Andrew Hill

I can not say what has happend in your case, but I can tell you that if the documents a registrant sends in, doesn't match or meet the criterias we need to verify a registrant identity, then the domain will be deleted.

This is also explained in our terms and agreement (3.1-3.7).

Domain deleted with only a vague explanation given

I tried registering a .dk domain name which got rejected and deleted because of a "failed identity check". There was no explanation on why it failed even though I submitted all of the requested documents including a photo of myself. I was told that it would cost $25 (USD) to appeal the decision.

Not a single person reached out to me to validate the information I sent or even to discuss any concerns about the registration - just a short email saying the registration process has failed and the domain as been deleted.

Even the registrar in the US (where I purchased the domain from) was confused as they hadn't seen anything from DK-Hostmaster and had no idea that there were any problems.

This is rather unfortunate because I'm the only one who loses here, I was really looking forward to starting up in Denmark.

Dear Brian Mitchell

I am sorry to hear that.

I can not say what has happend in your case, but I can tell you that we do have a strict Identification control, and if the registrant doesn't give the information that we need, the domain will be deleted.

If you want to hear about how to complain about the decision, you can write to me on trustpilot@dk-hostmaster.dk

Unacceptable customer service

The operator I talked to (in Danish) was an inexperienced (old) man, who did not understand the issue at hand.

He got angry because I said I got an Email from registrant-agreement.dk/
for a domain transfer.

Awesome support

Awesome support. Was late paying for a website i no longer use, so i called telling them ill pay right away. Then I asked them how i should cancel the subscription. I was not expecting this answer: "well in that case dont pay if you dont want it."

Happily surprised to see them simply cancel the subscription over the phone (waiting time 8 sec - holy shizzle) and cancel the outstanding payment.
