Deceptive Business Practices: "Phantom" Security Updates and Abandoned Support
Deceptive Business Practices: "Phantom" Security Updates and Abandoned Support for DIR-X3260 A1
I am writing this review to expose the highly deceptive and irresponsible practices by D-Link regarding their DIR-X3260 A1 router. While this product was released in 2021 with a promised End of Support (EoS) and security update commitment lasting until March 31, 2024, the reality is a complete betrayal of consumer trust.
Here are the facts regarding their so-called "security updates":
The last genuinely functional and installable firmware for this device is v1.02B02, which was released on November 8, 2021. This means that within a year of its release, the device was effectively abandoned by the manufacturer.
In February 2024, just one month before the official EoS deadline, D-Link released firmware v1.04B01. However, this is a "phantom" update. It is completely broken and impossible for regular users to successfully install or update to, regardless of the method used.
It is highly probable that D-Link rushed out this unusable v1.04B01 file simply to check a box and fulfill their "security update" promise on paper before the March EoS deadline, thereby dodging potential legal and commercial liabilities. This is nothing more than compliance theater.
A router is the primary gateway to a home network. By providing zero real, installable security patches since late 2021, D-Link has knowingly left users severely vulnerable to network exploits for over two years. Releasing an uninstallable, defective update just to save face is worse than providing no update at all—it wastes consumers' time troubleshooting a broken file and provides a false sense of security.
I strongly advise all consumers to avoid D-Link products. A company that treats home network security as a mere bureaucratic checkbox rather than a critical consumer safety standard does not deserve your money.
The worst customer service
The worst customer service - ready to have a nerves breakdown whilst on the phone with them trying to problem solve. The staff are overseas in Asia - the line is so bad long delay when speaking- they read and long silent pauses before replies to you. Then support call drops out. They can not problem solve the one so have had - they lack knowledge just repeat something when already on thy page !!!! Nightmare - wish me luck have to call them for the 4 times! Done recommend D-Link their products are not reliable either
D-Link Disappointing products and services
Disappointing Experience with D-Link Router (DIR-X3260 A1)
I am sharing my experience with the D-Link DIR-X3260 (A1) to warn other users and to urge the manufacturer to improve.
The most serious issue is the complete lack of ongoing security updates. This router was released around 2021, yet security firmware updates appear to have stopped as early as the end of 2021. That means this device has effectively been running without meaningful security maintenance for years.
This is extremely concerning. A router is not just a simple device — it is the gateway to your entire home network. Without regular security patches, users may be exposed to serious vulnerabilities, potential exploits, and cyber threats.
In other words, even if the hardware still works, the product may pose real security risks over time.
The router does not support third-party firmware (such as OpenWrt), leaving users with no alternative way to maintain security.
Firmware development appears to have been abandoned very early in the product lifecycle.
This leads to an important warning for potential buyers:
Purchasing products from this brand may carry long-term security risks, especially if the company does not commit to maintaining firmware updates.
Suggestions for D-Link:
Clearly commit to at least 5 years of security updates for all networking products.
Continue providing critical security patches, even after products are no longer actively marketed.
Improve transparency regarding product lifecycle and support timelines.
Consider supporting or allowing open-source firmware options.
Consumers today expect not only functional hardware, but also ongoing security and long-term support. I hope D-Link takes this seriously and improves its practices going forward.

worst company ever
Bought outdoor cameras about two years ago. From day one, the quality was really poor: it takes 20–30 seconds for the cameras to wake up, so whatever you actually want to see is usually already gone. Motion alerts also arrive with a 10–20 second delay, which completely defeats the purpose of a security system.
Now, after two years, two of the cameras have stopped working altogether. To reconnect them, I’m asked for a PIN code that I was never provided with. When I contacted support, their solution was to charge me $25 just to help resolve the issue.

Do not buy D-Link WiFi...
We bought a fairly expensive D-Link package with three repeaters, hoping to finally get reliable coverage throughout the house, no matter which internet provider we use. The idea was to make life easier when switching providers, with all our devices connected, alarm, robot vacuum, phones, PC, smart lock, and more.
But honestly, this system has been a huge disappointment. Even after running brand-new cables directly to the central unit (no extensions, no shortcuts), the network constantly drops out. The wireless is the worst, if you play online games on your phone, you’ll be kicked out all the time, even while sitting in an area that supposedly has “excellent” coverage. Speed tests show near maximum upload and download, but still, the connection freezes for a few seconds every 3–10 minutes (sometimes every single minute!).
Our Wi-Fi cameras are barely usable because of these drops. And here’s the kicker. When we connect directly to the original router, even with weaker coverage, the connection is rock solid. Not a single dropout, unlike with the D-Link system.
To make matters worse, phones get “confused” when switching between repeaters in the house, even though this system was marketed as providing seamless roaming. After more than two years of frustration, I can honestly say: do not buy these. “Disappointed” doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Poor customer service
I already have a camera on their app, bought a DCS-8000L LHV3 to go to my place in Bulgaria.
It wouldn’t connect to the router and so I tried Customer services.
What a waste of time, I gave up with them as if it’s simple that can probably solve it, if it’s anything but simple, they don’t answer and leave the chat open.
Won’t have any more dLink kit.

Avoid D-Link like the plague
DSL-X3052E product documentation advertises it can accept forwarding a range of ports, but this is false. (No acknowledgement of this whatsoever during technical support process when i advised of this)
I also discovered after giving up on forwarding a range of ports, that you are limited to a total of 10 ports! individually forwarded?!
This product is absolutely useless for anyone who needs to forward ports (eg for SSH, HTTP, FTP, SMB, or for gaming, where some online games require upwards of 30 ports forwarded for direct connections)
Their documentation is dishonest and misleading, and their support is not only slow and unhelpful, and directly contradicts the documentation, but would be considered rude by most standards.
I quote their response to my questions about misleading documentation around port forwarding of ranges:
"This is a limitation of the modem which does not support specifying a range of ports. The field accepts 5 characters but does not allow to enter a format like ‘27000-27031’.
If you need any further assistance with your D-Link products, please reply to this message."
Zero acknowledgement that their documents tell you HOW to forward a range of ports, yet the product does not. No mention either that the device only allows for forwarding of 10 ports maximum of single forwards which seems like a ridiculous limitation today.
I will never again consider wasting money on any D-Link product.
EDITED after further research:
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that you cannot find or add reviews of D-Link on google?
I'm going to assume they are a google customer/client or something.
When I google search D-Link there are zero review options shown, and no ability to add one. Interesting.
Absolutely Terrible Products

Customer support useless. Sometimes it takes couple of weeks until they answer, and answers are not helpful and / or incomplete... Support User portal completely outdated and not user friendly, like from 90s , winows 95/98 times.. I wonder how do they still exist..
TL:DR: Ridiculous price gouging, horrible tech support and junk product.
TL:DR: Ridiculous price gouging, horrible tech support and junk product.
I bought a product that was "out of stock" in every retailer except the official store on Amazon for nearly 3x the price. (VR Air Bridge DWA-F18).
Not only was the performance lackluster, it started to fail and refuse to properly connect on the 3rd instance of use.
I also learned that they no longer offer technical support and declared end of service as of 2024. (2 years after the product launched.)
D-Link technical support tried to rip me off.
My Dap 1860 extender that worked for 3 years stopped connecting to my router. I did research, tried reboots and factory resets several times to my extender, router and camera system. Looked for Dlink solutions on their website and Google with no luck. I contacted D-Link technical support, they linked to my laptop and told me that I had a Trojan Virus on my WiFi network and offered to clean it up for a price, packages from one to ten year protection plans.
I decided to do more research and found that the extender had several wrong settings and the IP address.
Was it an update that made the changes?
Got it reconfigured and working.
Technical support wanted me to pay to clean up a non existent virus.
Shame on you. Be careful people even with big companies like D-Link.
D-Link's mydlink: A Security Nightmare Masquerading as an App!
Three years, hundreds of dollars wasted, and countless security vulnerabilities later, I am done with D-Link and their abysmal "mydlink" app.
This app is a buggy mess that completely undermines the purpose of owning a security camera. Despite numerous bug reports over the past three years and a continuous in-app subscription costing me hundreds of dollars, the fundamental issues remain unresolved.
The geofencing feature, which should be a cornerstone of any decent security system, is utterly unreliable. It fails to activate my DCS-6500LH camera when I leave home, rendering it useless for its intended purpose - deterring crime and providing peace of mind. This negligence is frankly appalling and puts my home at risk.
Adding insult to injury, the app constantly logs me out, forcing me to re-enter my credentials every few days. This constant disruption is infuriating and highlights the app's lack of basic functionality.
Despite always keeping both the app and my iOS version updated, I am plagued by glitches and inconsistencies. The inability to implement even rudimentary AI functionality for motion detection is inexcusable in today's technological landscape. As a result, I am bombarded with false alarms triggered by mundane events like passing clouds, rendering the system useless for its intended purpose.
D-Link's refusal to invest in improving their app and software is disgraceful. They are happy to take our money while providing a subpar product that compromises our security.
I have since switched to a competitor's platform and experienced a world of difference. D-Link, if you're reading this, wake up! Your customers deserve better than this buggy, unreliable mess. You need to prioritize app development and implement the features that are essential for a modern security system. Until then, I urge potential customers to steer clear of D-Link and their pathetic excuse for an app.
recording failing dropping out re type…
recording failing dropping out re type passwords , yes the product is good but the company is bad absolutely no communication no simple procedures , now worse than ever, time limits just get worse simple no upgrading no work so if u stay with d-link and want reliability just keep paying as buying now with the same product later they will remove functions disabling it slowly and techs with accents hard to understand
