Unwilling to process refund of hardware as they are going out of business.
I purchased a Dream Payments machine for my small business. At first glance, the product seemed amazing, and worked great the first time it was used. I noticed after the first use, the battery was horrible, I was constantly having to charge the machine during my shows, which was becoming a problem when needing to take payment from customers. After a few uses, before another show, I went to turn on the unit, and an error code came up. I contacted technical support, and they advised me that the unit was defective and I would no longer be able to use the unit. They shipped me a new unit in a few weeks. I used the new unit ONCE....and then the next time I went to use it, the same error code came up on the new unit. I contacted technical support again, and they said tried to tell me I wasn't using the right charger for the unit and it was now defective as well. This was clearly not the case, as I have no other charger that fits the unit. I explained that I did not have another charger and I was only using the charger provided. After having to escalate to a supervisor on duty, they agreed to send me another new unit. The next day, I received an email from customer support stating they WOULD NOT replace the second unit, even though it was defective. Absolutely disgusted with customer service and this product. I would never recommend this product to anyone. Please DO NOT waste your money investing in this product for your business, you will be very disappointed!!!
Beware the company’s policy on card readers!!! If you are a small business, steer clear of sinking your money into this. I got my reader and used it for one big trade show, I decided not to continue with the business and sold the terminal to my friend. We then discovered that the terminal is linked to your account forever, it cannot be transferred to anyone else, if you disconnect it from your account, you have two weeks to reconnect it or it is permanently removed from your account which makes it unusable by anyone ever again. I tried to change the company name so we could still use it for her business but that is not allowed either. I was told over phone I would have to re register the second business online and there was no guarantee they would link the current terminal to that business. Pretty strong tactics by a company to prevent people from selling the terminals. The amount of people screwed over and enraged by this policy will far outweigh the few sales it saves the company. Congrats, my friend won’t be purchasing a new terminal from you either.
All these platforms have glitches, but i've used dream payment for about 8 shows now.
It's pretty simple; straightforward.
thoughts:
-needing both a phone and the terminal ( two devices ) can be awkward, but not really a big deal.
-the back end reports could be more detailed; more transparent on charges incurred
-bandwidth at big shows is the most annoying .... i would urge these platforms to encourage large show organizers to invest in technology that supports a stronger signal .
Bottom line: no better no worse than any of these devices, and i figure the dude from square has enough money........doesn't he own twitter?
When this all really matters, is when there is a problem. If DreamPayment can keep a fast , intelligent experience for their customers when issues arise, I would certainly recommend them.
I added a second terminal no problem.
It is intuitive for someone to learn pretty quickly, and as secure as the others in the business.
Good luck DreamPayments. Stay Canadian !
My first time using this was at a very large vendor fair,I found it so easy to use. I wish that you didn't have to constantly sign in though.
Easy, convenient... from setup to receiving payments. Highly recommended.
Offering the convenience of mobile payments to my customers is both a business advantage and a process-efficiency for a one-person operation!
Despite a small hiccup in the account activation, everything since has been awesome. The terminal works well, the app works and connected with my other accounts without issue. I have had compliments on how the terminal looks and feels more professional as compared to some of the other mobile payment options available.
Please keep developing products
I am rating Dream Payments three stars because my problem was resolved to my satisfaction. I bought the terminal for seasonal craft shows and the lesson learned is that Dream Payments is not for every business Here is how to Dream Payments if you are a small craft business:
- Test the machine before the warranty expires. It is entirely possible to pass through the warranty period and only use the machine a few times. Most Dream Payments customers are swiping a few times a day, so they are more aware of what is going on with their machine.
- Call Dream Payments as soon as you see the tamper list error. Resetting the terminal will not help. It is a sure sign that the machine is done for.
- It’s not obvious, but if you hold down the red power button until you get the goodbye screen, then the terminal powers off. This will help with battery life.
- Once the machine is out of warranty, Dream Payments may offer you a discount on a new terminal. I was able to get a new terminal at a discounted price after speaking to a Customer Success Manager.
- If you purchased the terminal with a credit card and it is out of warranty, and your only recourse is to purchase a new terminal, call up your credit card company. Even no frills bank credit cards may have warranty protection. You COULD get a refund or replacement. Keep your receipts, credit card statement showing the purchase and the terminal itself. Do not throw the terminal out in case the insurer wants it sent back.
When the Dream Payments system works well, it works extremely well! The support is fabulous and the call centre agents are very friendly. I loved the system when I first purchased it, but having barely made any transactions and finding it bricked a month before my big sales event was extremely disappointing and a huge distraction.
Worked fine for our first season. Just started our second season and machine claims it was tampered with (it was not). Have to pay for a new one.. Think I'll take my business somewhere else. Another company will be happy to get our accounts service fees.
The Dreampayments terminal I purchased was defective right out of the box. Unfortunately, I did not take it out of the box right away, the warranty had already expired. This is a known issue with the unit and many people have had the same problem. Unfortunately, Telus cannot fix the unit or replace it.
I've stopped using due to the fact that it constantly crashes or does not connect. Dream payments need to do better. It's so embarrassing when you can't take customer payments because the product doesn't work

I wish I could manually put a card in to process transactions. I was told I’d be able to but I guess that person was incorrect. Makes it difficult when customers want to pay on the phone and have their products shipped to them. Other then that I love this device.

Didn’t work, hard to setup, glitchy and a waste of my time and money.
We had never accepted debit or credit before. This is easy to us, the deposits arrive on a timely basis and the reporting is good.
I find dreampayments an excellent form of receiving payments. I have a bookkeeping/income tax business and find this is an awesome way to take payment. It is affordable and convenient.
Good app and handy way to take your business on the go
