Top Quality Topsoil, or not

All appeared well from choice and load size through to customer service and delivery. On delivery the vegetable topsoil ordered, 2 x 750kg bags, looked like top quality topsoil - light, airy and with a good tilth. The colour also looked consistent. Even during the off loading onto my veg plots all seemed good.
Having raked to soil surface over to level and left to settle for several days in the recent sunshine it was clearly evident that the topsoil contained a huge amount of sandstone flakes, clippings and stones of various sizes. Having dried out, the sandstone was clearly evident by its colour. The amount of stones was enormous and would make the soil totally unsuitable for vegetable growing, especially root vegetables. To remove the stones would have to be done by hand using a garden sieve and would take days if not weeks due to the quantities involved.
Earth cycle were contacted and photos supplied for confirmation.
They were very apologetic and accepted the soil was not at the standard as described as top quality organic top soil produced for vegetable growing.
The soil is apparently mixed with local quarried sandstone to achieve its organic status.
The amount of stones in the load could possibly also add to the weight of the load.
A full refund was given to compensate for the poor quality product.
Perhaps I was unlucky with this order but please do some checks as I did if you order from Earth Cycle.
Overall, good admin, below standard product.

Great experience ordering vegetable topsoil

I placed an order for a 720L bag of vegetable topsoil with Earthcycle and I'm so glad that I did. The product arrived on time, the delivery man was really nice and I'm so happy with the topsoil. I'm surprised about the negative reviews on here tbh!
I'm about to place another order with them for some woodchips because I had a very positive experience and I'm happy to return to them.

Fantastic customer service

Fantastic customer service!
There was an issue with the haulage company but Tom at Earth Cycle did everything possible to keep me up to date and informed. Would definitely use the company again because of this.

I'm sad to read the bad reviews here

I'm sad to read the bad reviews here. I bought a bulk bag of cow manure and am SO happy with it. About to order a 2nd, looking around online and loathe to buy a different product - just worrying about it being too acidic. The texture is amazing though and the dark colour is gorgeous. We have extremely stony soil and whilst removing stones are replacing them with this manure.

Addendum: Googled and found the pH of the cow manure (8.6) means it's alkaline rather than acidic. Went with spent mushroom compost from another supplier - simply because I don't want my soil to become "one-sided" - ie, I want to introduce a variety of nutrients to it. I am definitely going to order more cow manure once the mushroom compost is underway in the garden.

Ad addendum: I ordered it on 19 October 2021 and it arrived on 29 October 2021. On 1 November I questioned the fibrous appearance and this is the response: "Please note, however, that the cow compost will not look like cow manure. It is a mixture of cow manure and composted green waste which has been screened down to 10mm so will look like a fine compost." Since using 4/5ths of the bag I would say it's wonderful stuff - light and fluffy and REALLY dark. No foreign objects have been detected. I'd not re-read their reply since last year so had not really taken on board that other matter was involved in the compost - I began to think it was pure cow manure. Whatever it is it's adding beautiful dark colour and fibre to the soil, making it really earthy instead of stony and sandy.

They’re liars I bought six or more ton…

They’re liars I bought six or more ton bags of what they told me over the phone was organic topsoil it was also described on their site as such! They’ve now had to change the wording and it stated they add organic compost and the rest isn’t organic! The soil had loads of plastic in it such as broken disposable razors! DO NOT BUY FROM THEM AS THEY ARE A DISHONEST COMPANY WITH A TERRIBLE PRODUCT!!
It was a few years ago but have just been reminded when I found an old email that I meant to do an honest negative review.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!

I bought 2 bulk bags of their beds and borders compost thinking it was all PAS 100 compliant as the company claimed.

Upon receiving the compost it quickly became clear that their compost was full of glass, plastic, lino and what looked like asbestos cement roofing.

When I finally managed to get hold of the company they pretended to look into it and then just completely ignored me from that point onwards. More than a year on their terrible product is still sitting on my drive waiting to be collected. I'll now have to pay to have it taken away to landfill.

Their product is not PAS 100 compliant and do not trust their Feefo ratings which have been edited. Look on their Google maps rating instead to see their bad reviews.

Earthcycle always answer reviews to make it appear that they care. From my experience that couldn't be further from the truth.
