Great business model but communication challenges need to be addressed.
The EN model has huge potential. Not sure what is happening behind closed doors but lack of branded searches compared to a few years ago, is noticeable. Communication with those who have been awarded G8 status is an area that could use improvement. Why not set a monthly update for all active G8 members so they dont feel like they are in a black hole? Any new developments are automatically forwarded on the 1st of each month....getting even a morsel of a progress update makes a huge difference.

Edison Nation still moving forward.
I've been in the inventing business for 36 years now and Edison Nation today is the best company going for any inventor and especially if you are disable. I encouraged anyone who is disable who has a idea to submitt it to Edison Nation and let the team take care of it for you. You will not learn anything about invention like you will with this company and its community. Happy Inventing!
Best job possible
To my mind EdisonNation does the best job possible for the nonprofessional inventor.
Edison Nation is a real partner in helping inventors
Edison Nation lets me spend my time designing and inventing while they take their resources in finding and pitching to companies. I've met these people is person and they are a great group of professionals. This is one of only a few companies I would recommend to any inventor looking to license product designs to companies.
Edison Nation is a viable and trustworthy way for an inventor to get their product idea to market.
I have been a member of Edison Nation (aka EN) since August 2009. I have tried other invention companies in the past, and the way they typically operate is that they tell you how great your idea is even before they have a chance to truly evaluate it. Of course these companies allow you to submit invention ideas for free, then, they tell you that all they need to get your product to market is some upfront money from you, usually to the tune of a few thousand dollars.
EN does not operate like this. They charge a nominal submission fee of $25 ($20 for Insider members) and they never ask for any more money from you again for that particular evaluation. However, if your invention idea fails to make it through their 8-stage review process and you choose to improve and resubmit it, you will have to pay another submission fee. However, if you are an Insider member, you can resubmit your invention idea for free. If the product has what it takes to make it to market, they invest the necessary capital and have the necessary connections to make that happen. Also, they DO NOT tell you how great your product idea is before they even have a chance to review it properly. Actually the reality is quite the opposite. Most ideas do not make it past their Stage 4 review. This fact reflects the reality of how inventing really works. The harsh reality is that most invention ideas, for a plethora of reasons, are not going make it onto store shelves. That’s just how it is. I want to work with a company, such as EN, who acknowledges this fact, and is upfront with me about how inventing really works, and doesn’t lie to me, in order to get as much money out of me as they can before I catch on. If an idea makes it through EN’s rigorous 8-stage review process, it stands a decent chance to find its way onto store shelves. However, even if it passes through the evaluation process, and is presented to a company, there still are no guarantees that it will be licensed or bought out. EN is upfront about this reality as well.
EN has a great business model, but they are not a perfect company (in fact, there is no such thing). They acknowledge this fact, and constantly seek feedback from the membership in order to improve their processes. Improvement suggestions are taken seriously and many are implemented. This is the kind of company that an inventor should want to partner with.
In summary, I find EN to be a trustworthy, knowledgeable, professional, transparent, and realistic company to partner with. Of course, EN is not the only pathway to get a product to market. You could go it alone, or go with one of those other companies. However, I challenge you to find another organization, where a total investment of $25 will go as far, in potentially getting your product to market, as it does with EN.
This is Derrick James, and I approve this message.
Great Company!
Edison Nation is Amazing! The opportunities it offers are exceptional. I entered a written idea into one of it's As Seen on TV product searches---and after it was chosen, had a product on store shelves! They are honest, hardworking and absorb ALL the costs. An Extraordinary company!!!
Could be better informed along the way
Overall Edison Nation is a good resource for people with ideas and a great community of members willing to help people. It's pretty amazing to think that you can submit an idea that will be seen by some of the largest companies in all major industries. But the review process can be grueling especially for the inpatient. Some can wait as long as 3 years with notifications every 3-5 months leaving them wondering what's going on. Then when all avenues have been exhausted and an idea is returned there is very little feedback or review as to what interested companies thought of your idea leaving you wondering where to go from there. It is understandable that licensing can be a long process but a monthly review or overall review when a idea doesn't make it, would be a nice way to stay informed.

Edison Nation is the BEST!
I have been an Insider member of Edison Nation since 2013. EN is like my second home! The members and staff are like family. Everyone is so encouraging and helpful, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!
I have been very satisfied with my time here with feedback that is always constructive.
I would highly recommend Edison Nation to anyone wanting to submit their idea to a trustworthy company.
incommunicado
The idea of the product searches is really great. A recurring issue is the lack of 2-way communication. There should be a way to communicate with the team which is evaluating a submission so that they are not overburdened, yet also allows the inventors to make the salient points required to ensure that all aspects of the invention are understood as clearly as possible.
I submitted an invention that the team said could not be done. I knew that it could be. I recently saw it on the market. I am really unhappy about it. There are times when the written word can be misinterpreted and the original vision gets lost. I knew that if I could have spoken with someone, the chances of crystalizing my vision may have improved the chance that my submission could be in the marketplace instead of someone else.
The point is that the inventor has the vision. Inventors may be bringing some things to the table that have never been seen or done before. That should be the point. The team is trying to understand the vision, and improve upon it in ways that will make it marketable, many times without TRULY understanding what the inventor is saying. There is a very important piece of this communication puzzle that is sorely lacking.

#1 choice for my best ideas
I know my ideas are safe with Edison Nation, and I thoroughly trust their experienced staff when it comes to selecting the best inventions and innovations to move forward toward success. They can see genius in even a simple napkin sketch or a homemade cardboard prototype.
Almost every day, I see one or more products on store shelves that have come from my fellow EN members. It's as exciting to be a part of their success, as it is to watch my own invention ideas move through the grading scale on my dashboard each week!
Innovative Innovators!
Edison Nation listens to member concerns and suggestions and addresses them! There's always EN employees actively participating in the forums either providing information and/or answering questions. Most invention companies seem like there's an iron curtain between the company and the inventor. That's not how it is at EN. They regularly update members on what's going on with their submissions and happily provide information when members ask for clarification or updates.
How Edison Nation changed my life!
My experience with Edison Nation (EN) has been nothing short of amazing. It all started with a PBS series called "Everyday Edisons," a show spearheaded by the incredible Louis Foreman for inventors wanting to launch their product.
This Emmy Award-winning show revealed the true inner-workings and behind-the-scene processes of what it actually takes to bring a product to market without all the fluff and puffery usually associated with "reality" television.
I became obsessed; never missed an episode. I knew that someday, somehow, I would be a part of this amazing company. So you can imagine how excited I was when the online version, Edison Nation, was introduced. With so many ideas under my belt and an insatiable desire to create, I now had a viable platform on which to potentially bring my product(s) to life as well.
You only pay a one-time nominal fee per Search, which is currently $25 ($20 for Insiders/subscribers), which starts the vetting process. EN then takes care of all the heavy lifting required to potentially bring your product to market: Legal, scouting, pitching, prototyping, manufacturing, marketing, and launching. Not bad for a nominal $25 investment. Then once your product launches they split the royalties 50/50! You just can't beat it!
EN has also made the vetting process fun and engaging. They have made available an efficient and creative method of tracking the progress of your invention as it moves along the review process. You are eager with excitement (as well as a little anxious) upon receiving an email that indicates "your idea has moved in our review." So, you rush over to your dashboard and with one click you immediately know the status. And as a subscribed Insider, I can opt in to as many other related searches for free, further leveraging my nominal one-time investment! What they have created is absolutely brilliant and unprecedented in our industry.
As a long-standing member of the EN community - since 2008 - I have seen this company evolve and in a good way. I have also grown as an inventor. I've learned that achieving success is never easy, but with EN, it's always attainable; that overcoming objection and rejection is an opportunity for growth and personal refinement.
Why am I still with EN? Two words: Integrity and transparency. You can ask a question and get an immediate, honest response. They are approachable and forthright in their dealings. The online community is like family. It is a place that fosters creative expression. We cheer each other on, we cry, we laugh, we pray, we joke, we share, we feel. As with any family, we have our ups and we have our downs and it's all okay.
At EN, we have a voice. EN listens to us. They advocate for us so that can continue to do what we do and that is to create; and yes, the ultimate goal is to attain a measure of material success. Given EN's ethos, time, tenacious effort and considerable outlay, it is clear this is their goal as well. There is no better company I would want to share in this journey than EN. They strive for the best because they ARE the best.
Great Company to work with!
I have submitted multiple ideas to Edison Nation. They have worked very hard presenting my ideas to multiple companies. They helped me to get a licensing deal with Norpro, which has been a fun and an amazing experience. They are a great company to work with!
A safe, inexpensive and honest path for inventors.
I used to say, "dreamin's free, but a patent will cost ya". Not anymore! Edison Nation provides a safe way to professionally evaluate the potential of a product and will pay for any protection if/when needed. This is a HUGE advantage as it lifts the financial burden so that I can pursue ALL of my best ideas. But most importantly, Edison Nation has the resources and knowledge to take my product to market. I do not.
As for honesty, their evaluation process is clear and they do not give false hope then ask for large sums of money. There are so many vultures out there that will take advantage of the hopes and dreams of unsuspecting inventors! So much so, that I wouldn't even pursue inventing if it weren't for Edison Nation. They are a safe and clear path to success, you just need a great idea that checks all the boxes. Also, their compensation is clearly stated and (to my knowledge) reflects the industry standards. I also believe that the shared interest in success motivates them to make sure that the submission process is safe.
So, I give Edison Nation 5 stars for their interest and ability to make my dream a reality!
The Best Choice!!
Edison Nation is the exact place to go when your dream is to be an inventor. I love the concept and feedback I get from them with each idea I submit.
Best Inventor Website
As a patented Inventor, I've perused every inch of Google learning to patent, prototype, build a website, and bring my idea to fruition. Of course I looked into every Inventor website offering help and answers to the many questions I had (and still have) along my journey.
There is no better website ~ trusted, affordable, friendly, honest, and upstanding ~ than Edison Nation. Not only that, it is fun watching ideas move on my dashboard.
The community is friendly and we even consider each other family as we welcome anyone and everyone to join in the conversations and the sharing of experiences and knowledge.
The website is user friendly and the EN team is even friendlier.
I love this site and highly recommend it to inventors beginning their journey to those who are already on the shelf. It's a great place to enter new ideas.
Happy Inventing!
Edison Nation - Great Source for the "Little Guy"
I have been an independent inventor for over 20 years with varying levels of success with both patented and unpatented products and ideas. I have utilized just about all the major inventor help services out there. I have chosen to use Edison Nation because I have found them trustworthy, cost-effective ($20 or $25 to submit) and a great partner (I've been a member for 8 years). I like their model because they really do not gain anything significant unless YOU gain something significant. All inventors need to be realistic about their products and the difficulties with bringing an invention to market. It's very easy to get frustrated when our "babies" (inventions) do not pan out as we hoped. We must remember even with big fortune 500 companies, successes are few and far between, but we have to keep plugging and eventually it pays off. I have submitted a bunch of ideas to Edison Nation and have been fortunate to see some success and the behind the scenes workings. When they get an invention/idea which they deem viable, they go ALL IN and throw the resources (time, expertise and financial) to attempt success in the marketplace. They put resources into my invention that I could NEVER have dreamed of doing myself. Needless to say, I am a huge fan and would HIGHLY recommend them to independent inventors and people who just have ideas, but unsure or reluctant about where to go for help.
Edison Nation is an independent inventor's best opportunity.
Overall, my experience and opinion of the company is good, however, there are "outside" influences that are determined to destroy Edison Nation's public image, and are even now actively working to do so on two distinct levels; (1) forum participation; which began to decline with the influx of new members that the Jeff Probst show brought in, with every form of "signature drive", "go-fund-me campaign", or "joke and find-me puzzle threads" you can think of, which turned the one time Inventor Education site into a FaceBook style social media "WALL", and drove many "serious" participants into the shadows. (2) Edison Nation is allowing disgruntled members who have been previously banned, that have openly expressed their dislike of the company AND their wish to see it fall, come back in the fold and currently participate in forum discussions, which generally revolve around how THEY can get things done better and more efficiently than Edison Nation, or busying themselves discrediting anyone who supports the Edison Nation business model. I would not think this except for a long message I received from the primary member after they were banned the first time, expressing their distrust and ability to do a better job than Edison Nation.
It saddens me really, because the activity and participation could be turned around SO easily... Edison Nation is a good company with unlimited potential, and welcoming everyone with open arms and is great for the public image, but SOMEBODY has to understand their are enemies of EN amongst them that wish nothing more than to see this company fall, and there should be some type of mechanism to control this!

Edison Nation Longtime Member
Being involved in this industry for over a decade, I feel my chances of success are greater when one has a team of professionals pitching their idea than a lone inventor. Enter Edison Nation
After reaching their points milestone, you get a private phone call from their CEO. I didn't have to ask if they were open to suggestions because he asked me for them first. This is a great sign of someone who actually cares!
Edison Nation solves the problem of what to do with the solution
I could tell you that Edison Nation provides a tremendous opportunity to those with a new product while pointing out all the work and expense they do so you don't have to. Their services may not mean as much to you until you've experience the process first hand bringing a product to market. No one else will take your rough sketch and give it serious consideration. Then if it has merit, do a patent search, prepare a presentation and pursue potential buyers. No one! Like myself, most people who tend to be creative do not have the various strengths or interest to clear the hurdles moving the concept forward. One of the things that I appreciate most in working with EN is that I can develop a concept, send it on to the EN team and then forget about it. This allows me to mentally move on to the next concept. And after all, that's what juices me up, creating. I hate (yes I know hate is a strong word) getting bogged down in the follow-up details. Edison Nation has always answered my questions immediately which always surprises me knowing that they must have to communicate to thousands of inventors. It's a numbers game, keep solving problems and if the odds look good EN will help get it to market.
