Fries at ££££££ price

Had lunch at Egypt Mill was served by a sullen waitress should have left then.
I had a pork belly menu with fries? Didn’t fancy fries at £26 so I asked if I could replace fries with maybe a vegetable SHOCK horror. I could have spinach but I would have to pay the full extra price 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m happy to pay the difference between fat chips or more fried alternatives but no pay or leave my day fries or pay extra (already decided no tip) . So I stole my granddaughter’s salad side plate and she gratefully ate my fat chips 🍿 all’s well that ends well. Returning not a chance beautiful setting but crap healthy choice accompaniment

Good base in the Cotswolds

We had a 2 night stay (short break for us)

Reception was friendly, our room 6 was very good and spacious. Comfy bed, room well heated, good TV with Netflix, WiFi, and very quiet, Bathroom which was immaculate, shower and hot water being instant throughout.

We had a package for meals including breakfast and dinner which worked well for us.

Overall food and service was good especially drinks in the evening which were served promptly when ordered.

Managing the reception desk/front of house in the evening was James. Very efficient and friendly making dining a pleasant no hassle experience

Using the Mill as a base for our 2 day Cotswold stay, proved to be an excellent choice.

Thoroughly recommend

Nice hotel, poor service

I booked this venue back in October 2024 to hold my husband's surprise retirement party. I paid £75 for the exclusive use of The Wheel Room which holds up to 35 guests. Although this area was cordoned off from the rest of the restaurant, it was not actually a separate room, and therefore other customers and staff were walking through the Wheel Room as a shortcut to get to other areas of the pub and restaurant. It did not feel very private or exclsive at all. A total let down and a waste of money.
I submitted the meal choices of all of my guests 2 weeks prior to the event, and yet on the evening of the event most of my guests were left waiting over an hour for their food to arrive. Some of the meals were also sub-standard. This is very poor service.
Furthermore, I arranged for the restaurant staff to take payment for the meals from each of my guests when leaving, and that I should pay the balance only - which in theory meant that I should only be paying for mine and my husband's meals. The restaurant staff had a list of all of the guests, their meal choices and their bills. Each guest paid at the bar as they left. However at the end of the evening I was told that the balance to pay was £150!! I knew this was incorrect because mine and my husband's meals came to £45 in total.
I challenged this with the restaurant staff and they claimed that both my son and his partner, and my sister and brother-in-law had not paid for their meals. Luckily both my son and brother-in-law paid by credit card and could prove via their banking app that they HAD paid, so with tails between their legs the staff agreed to only charge me what I owed for the two meals, however it does leave me wondering what would have happened if we couldn't prove otherwise... Furthermore there was no apology from the staff for their error.
Myself and my hubsand and some of my guests had pre-booked rooms in the hotel for an overnight stay after the meal. We booked 7 rooms in total. One thing I will say is that all of the rooms were lovely with lots of character. The beds were cosy, we all had a nice view and there were plenty of complimentary refreshments and toiletries.
The following morning when we all went down to breakfast we were shown to our table which (as requested) was one big table to seat all of us. That was good, however the waiting time to be served our food was almost as long as before! Needless to say we were late checking-out, but I saw no need to apologise in this instance.
Overall the hotel is lovely. It is located in a beautiful setting and has lots of charm and character, but unfortunately the service is well below standard, and that's why I'm giving it 2 stars.

Fantastic night out

I went to the Mill last week and had a fantastic time. Food and service were fantastic and coming from rural Shropshire to the Cotswolds was surprised by how reasonably the drinks were priced. My partner and I both had cocktails to start the night, the quality of these were above some of the highly priced cocktail bars that we visit on our travels! We did somehow miss the many signs telling us about the parking system, and even though the waiter remind us didn’t check our car in the system. However when we received the fine, we called the Mill and the very kind manager managed to get it rescinded straight away! We can’t wait for our next visit!

Outrageous parking scam operator

We visited with family on 21st July 24. Both drivers diligently entered our car registrations at the terminal in the entrance.
We have both received letters with non-appealable, non-negotiable parking fines of £100 with an 'issue date' of 5th August - today is 19th September, so we cannot 'pay within 14 days' to reduce these erroneous fines to £60. Absolutely outrageous.

We love Egypt Mill, have visited countless times by ourselves or with friends & family and spent thousands of pounds there. Because of this (well known) parking scam operator, which they have chosen to run their car park, we will never visit again.

Parking lack of interest!!!

Although we usually have a lovely time at Eygpt mill, we visit on a regular basis to meet friends we fell foul of the parking system visiting the first time after installment, we paid the fine,, we have visited several times since everything great, food etc, except the parking we entered car details in reception area. Only to receive, yet another parking fine today,,,we've tried to contact Eygpt mill only to go through voicemail, or when we mention the parking query, to enquire there has been any problems with others,,is all we wanted to know,,, the phone mysteriously goes dead,,,needless to say we will not be visiting again, as we use the parking process elsewhere, never a problem, except at Eygpt mill,,,takes all the pleasure out the visit,,,

It was my husband's birthday so we decided to go out for breakfast to Egypt Mill, a restaurant we have often frequented. We definitely regretted it! We were sat at a bare table with not even salt & pepper on it, no table mats, nothing! The food was brought in and simply plonked on the table with a knife & fork handed over at the same time. It looked as if it had been plated up for ages, totally dry and unappetising, with a piece of plain dry toast covering half the plate! In disbelief, I asked for side plates to put the toast on, and the waitress brought just one small plate with 2 pats of butter, nothing else! The food, not only looked unappetising but was almost cold and the eggs hard. I complained to the manager, and the food was taken away (I thought to be replaced with a freshly cooked breakfast) - but no, minutes later the same two plates of food were brought back to the table and we were asked which one of us had taken a bite out of our sausage so we could be given the correct one back!! Unbelievable! The food had just been warmed up in a microwave!
The eggs had been replaced but again they were not freshly cooked and still hard! Two badly cooked breakfasts and 2 cups of coffee £25!! To be honest, for an establishment that calls itself a hotel the whole experience was a joke and the food and service dreadful.

PARKING SCAM - AVOID

PARKING SCAM - AVOID. New parking system in place, which requires entering vehicle details into a iPad on the bar, yet no reference to this on our table, signs are not clear on a dark rainy December night (especially when the last time we visited their were no parking restrictions .. so why would i actively be looking out for them?), and none of the (rather miserable) staff bothered to mention the new requirement upon our arrival. We have been scammed £100 for using their car park, and Egypt Mill will DO NOTHING to assist us despite acknowledging that they have been having other complaints (they've since added more signs within the restaurant ,... great, but that doesn't help us, does it?!), and that we have a reservation logged in their system.

My appeal to the parking management company was rejected, despite me providing a snapshot of my credit card bill showing we clearly used Egypt Mill over that time. They have not listened to anything i said in the appeal, and just turned back the usual legal bullsh*t.

And yet Egypt Mill are too lame to actively help a loyal customer out, as the parking company have advised them "not to get involved". FFS - get involved!!! You are paying that parking company for a service, and all they are doing is giving you a bad reputation as they are just interested in making money. I will be advising all of my friends who regularly use Egypt Mill to boycott it unless this is remedied.

Lack of information

After having visited Egypt Mill on numerous occasions in the past, my friends & myself decided to have our annual Christmas lunch at the restaurant.
Three of us that took our cars that day, received £100 car parking fines several weeks later.
Not once during our visit to EM were we informed by any member of staff that the carpark was now owned by an independent company. There were no signs anywhere in the restaurant to warn customers and no noticeable signs in the car park ether.
There should have been a machine placed in a notable area of the restaurant to enter customers car registration numbers as is the case in many other pub restaurants.
None of us will ever visit Egypt Mill again and I shall be encouraging friends and family not to do so.
They have obviously lost a lot of custom due to poor customer service and will continue do so in the future.

Don't go to Egypt Mill

Don't go to Egypt Mill
My family and I will never go to Egypt Mill again. I have been totally ripped off by the £100 carpark scam there.
Having helped my 98 year old mother across a poorly lit uneven carpark, I entered the establishment and was shown to a table where we had a meal, paid and left. At no point during that time did I see any sign or was I made aware of the parking scam in operation. My family and I have patronised EM many many times over the years, always parking for free (as is the case with most reputable pubs and restaurants). I am utterly appalled and not only will I never eat there again, I will make it my business to advise as many people as I can to boycott the place too.
I understand Egypt Mill was so called because the original Mill owner treated everyone badly and ripped people off - perhaps nothing changes!
I had to give a one star rating here because there isn't a lower option!

We all got parking fines

On the 21st of December I went to Egypt Mill for a family birthday lunch,we have been many times before and have loved the beauty of the building. I spent £198 on this day and have been dismayed to find that everyone in our party have a parking ticket for £60. I put in my car details bat the time but they obviously didn't work ! My daughter rang and complained that nobody asked us to do so but was met with total lack of interest , saying that we should have read the notices .We were all trying to get my 92 year old mum down the steps and to the table that we just didn't notice . The staff really should have reminded us at the time.Poor service!

If you can judge the quality of an organisation by the attitude and deportment of their staff, then Egypt mill is sadly lacking. The woman who checked me in and served me a drink could barely raise a smile and I am sure the words 'thank you' were not in her vocabulary. Obviously, she was doing me a favour by letting me stay there. Consequently, I chose to eat in another restaurant as the atmosphere at Egypt Mill was horrible. The mill itself is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable if bland.
